Off Topic is quite spammy atm, I'll be taking refuge here for a bit.

That's all I need to know about Pirate-Community.

What do you think of the first post in this thread?

I think it's pretty good, but it's the first time in a really long time that I checked it. I wonder how many newcomers actually read it.

I read it about a year ago and found it quite informative. I also think it's amazing that we've found a use for the arrow smiley!

The opening line is somewhat misleading though:

"Pirate-Community was founded on August 8th 2003, as a consequence of the deterioration of the official Rayman forums."

RaymanZone was still quite lively in 2003. I think they got hacked in... 2005?

2004. The announcement topic is still on page 1!
But deterioration is code for "Hunch was fired".

They only started deteriorating when Ubi hosted them on the dreadful Infopop and Groupee. This forum does owe a lot to the old phpBB boards.

But what about the cries that RZ was already "defaced" (by noobs/spammers) even before the Santy worm got it?

RZ definitely started going down in the summer of 2003, which is why I created PC and many members joined. The later hacks were just an unfortunate consequence of the forum becoming shit.

I don't know, I liked the 2003-2004 RZ. I wasn't around in summer 2003 yet though, I joined in winter.

I see what you mean, it still had a certain charm to it, which was completely lost after they moved to the Ubi forums. But I guess no one would have joined this place if I had been the only one disappointed with the way RZ was going in 2003-2004.

I was joining every fan-made forum back then. This is the only one that survived longer than a month.

That's a good point, it's still a mystery why people never left this one.

Not the smallest factor was the theme and all the custom images, I think. Others didn't put much effort into their fan-forums at all, I think.

It was just a stock theme for a good while though.

I had no idea. It had Solaris already when I joined.

Yeah that's the one I was talking about.

Oh. Well, that's still better than most of Rayman fan-forums back then.

True, it was a pretty neat one at the time.
