Yeah, maybe something similar to the mist in the denser parts of the Dream Forest in the PS1 version would have helped the impression of being enveloped by the storm. (Strange that the Dream Forest mist isn't in the Saturn version, as it's exactly the sort of graphical embellishment it would make.)

I've never thought about this before, but it's strange that the blue sky background is only ever used in Band Land and Picture City. It's the only one that could be used in almost every world. Blue Mountains seems like a particularly good fit.

So, do people like the glowing sun in the Saturn version of Gong Heights? How about the scrolling sky in the PC version of the Dream Forest? (Is that in any other versions?)

I like those visual effects myself.

On the note of the Saturn Version of Rayman, I think I slightly prefer the Playstation version for one reason, some of the background swaps felt a little out of place in the Saturn, it was kind of odd at times. Though for the most part I actually think graphically the Saturn version looks just a *LITTLE* better, as the Saturn was best known for being a 2d beast.

Didn't you say during our LP that Saturn version was a little higher spot than PS1 version? :P

I like the scrolling clouds, but the shimmering sun on the Saturn version I thought looked really cheesy. Maybe if the effect were more subtle and random it would be nice.

I actually like the glowing sun. The effect is plenty subtle, nicely emulating a glowing candle, and for me was one of the few perks of the Saturn version, as it nicely adds to the sort of the mysterious (and even sort of the Asian) attributes of the level. All I'd ask for is perhaps slightly thicker overlays, but the effect itself is totally fine in my opinion. It's also nice that the sun doesn't scroll awkwardly like in all the other versions of the game.

So I can't change my mind after replaying the two?

They're all different to each other.

Hmm, lots of old members reappearing. Considering what was on this guy's profile until a few minutes ago, there might be something to that "fell Samhain magic" Candish mentioned… :fou:

I just decided to pop by, see how this forum is doing ever since I lost interest in the Rayman franchise.

Not much different, still the same popular people around.

So you converted to GTA fan? Why not be fans of both?

I tried.
I went from Rayman, to Crish bindlecoose (again, though I didn't join any forums related to him), to Grend fooft automobile.

I always focus on one game franchise, I still am a fan of the Rayman games, just not the same as I was when I joined this forum.

I'm glad I don't suffer from that kind of behaviour! I love being a massive fan of the Rayman franchise while remaining a long-time fan of Command and Conquer, Blinx and Black&White.

Hmm, I'm like that with some things, and other things are pretty constant. It'd be cool if I could a sort of summary of the topics of the videos I've watched since I joined YouTube, I feel that I'd see some things pop up periodically, but not constantly.

I get into different "phases" where I get really into different games, and play the shit out of them until my skill level is to a point where I'm satisfied, at which point I move on. I haven't quite reached a point where I'm satisfied with either Rayman or Earthworm Jim, though, hence why I've moved onto shittily speedrunning them and the like. But, eh, it doesn't really affect where I post, though; I've gotten to know the community here pretty well and I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon.

Also, speaking of speedrunning, anyone thinking about speedrunning this game or just wanting to learn some cool tricks ought to check this video out:

While it is an actual run of the game, spikevegeta's PB, it also functions as a fantastic tutorial due to the detailed commentary (particularly check out 39:16; it'll blow your mind).

Gee, haven't played Rayman 1 in forever, used to be an MLG no-scoping pro at it...except that one level with that fucking fish.

Maybe I'll re-download the PS1 Classic, never got around to finishing it.

Haha Ad, you need to teach all of us how to pro Eat at Joe's out like you do. xD

I was actually just about to comment, inquiring further about the supposed 'difficulty' of that level. Confidence - just go for it. Every moment you pussy out when trying to make a jump is a moment closer to certain death!

For a little background here, when Shroob was playing some Rayman 1 at my place, we picked Eat at Joe's, and he ended up reducing my live count from 74 to 15 by the end, many of those lost on the 'fucking fish' area. It was so much fun, the laughter was mutual; that was honestly one of my most fond memories of this entire year. That whole visit was, really.

But yeah, I'm so accustomed to Eat at Joe's I don't take a single hit through it. I want to do a speedrun at some point, I want to compete.
