Mm, was wondering if anyone was interested in seeing my conquer my fears by doing a per-world damageless walkthrough of the PlayStation version of this game as I'm both hesitant and eager to finally attempt such. :?

Sounds frustrating but an achievement on your end and fun to watch on mine.

I am now the happy owner of the DSi version of Rayman! While playing through the game again, I've used the opportunity to expand the Raywiki article with more info on the differences. I still consider it a training rom version ;)

I recently got the DSi version as well, and this one screenshot doesn't even begin to explain what's wrong with it:

I have no idea why the drum tiles got butchered . I'm guessing the darkened Band Land skies were to improve the contrast (maybe they didn't get over the GBA's lack of backlight :P)
One thing I noticed on my most recent play - Rayman never loses his grimace. Holding down the R button makes him run, while tapping it once makes the grimace happen. That's kind of neat

The DSi version made the game stupidly easy with the increase of the life points.

You also get 30 continues, a new life for every 50 tings, and several added platforms in order to make certain jumps easier.
I like it for what it is, an easier version of the game. I think it would be better if it was an option though, and you could play the game with original difficulty too. Maybe for future ports?

I would rather defend that in a Rayman 1 HD.

That'd be a great idea for a Rayman 1 HD remake :D
Just if Ubisoft would take the job to do it :/

They can look to Oddworld: New N Tasty as a commercial success from Just Add Water. And it is only the beginning since these sales were PS4 exclusive. Just wait when the ports come out to all the other platforms.

If Rayman 1 HD would hit an exclusive to any of the current consoles: It would be instant purchase for me... But how I know Ubisoft, they tend to do always multiplats.

It will be one of the best sold games of 2014/2015.

I don't think exclusivity is something a Rayman title should be involved with, multiplatform availability has been a thing since the beginning.

Playing it again on PS1, I'm not quite sure Rayman 1 needs an HD remake. I'm not sure you can make it feel more like a cartoon....

Rayman 2 (and Revo) needs one though.

I fully disagree. R1 needs HD remake way more than R2. R2 is already at 1920x1080 in PC version and Revolution was already a remake of R2.

There are a lot of things about the game that could be improved. Firstly, the resolution (320x240); even simply redoing all the artwork in high resolution with greater detail would be enough to dramatically increase the game's beauty. Look at the dynamic lighting and graphical effects used in Rayman Legends, seeing Rayman 1 with that kind of technical fidelity would make it feel like a brand new game (imagine the thunderstorm in Bongo Hills, you could see storm clouds and real lightning bolts, every sprite could even cast shadows and 3D effects could be used to aid the parallax backgrounds). The sound effects could also use an overhaul, as could the music (the compositions themselves are brilliant, I'm referring moreso to the samples and production, both of which are very minimal for today's standards), as well as the way it's integrated (no more CDDA, properly looping tracks, background ambience that can go behind the music instead of being a music track itself), and those shoddy MIDI tracks could be replaced with produced versions. There's no transition between any of the animations, there isn't even a landing-while-walking animation - look at how smooth Origins/Legends are.

There's so much you could do now that wasn't as easy to do back then. I think Rayman 1 has some of the most imaginative artwork I've ever seen in a 2D platformer, but you can tell all of it is simplified and lacking in detail due to the fact that it had to all be squeezed down to 240p. I bet if we were able to see the artists' original renditions of the tilesets/sprites before they were scaled down, you would hardly even recognise them.

Rayman 2 could benefit as well, but not as much as Rayman 1 in my opinion. Pretty much any game from the 90's could be improved graphically with astonishingly beautiful results if we remade them today (emphasis on 'remade', that means redoing all the assets and artwork).

I think the cartoony yet pixelated style of R1 was perfect, I probably wouldn't like a HD remake.
Anyway if they made it a HD remake they would probably use the new Origins design...

What I would like is for Ubisoft to not make any bloody remakes and get on with another 3rd person 3-D platforming game, god damn it!
What happened to you Ubisoft???

I guess that's what they're trying to do with the Assassin's Creed series, no?

I think a Rayman 1 remake could work out incredibly well, as long as they don't make it too slick-like. It's easy to go 'oh it can look smoother now, look at that' and make it all too round and easing to the point where it just looks plain awful instead of like an improvement.
I'd probably be incredibly interested in seeing if Rémi Gazel would be up to get his instrumentated tracks included in this 'new Rayman'. That'd sound swagilicious as hell.

Yeah but what's the point in a remake, you can play the same game on your PC for free, just find some abandoneare.
A brand new 3-D game would be infinately preferable, rather than them wasting that time making a game's graphics look better...

If you want beter music, wouldn't a soundtrack do? Nintendo have been ding that, like in SSB4 for Wii U there's tons of remixes and stuff of old and classic tracks.
