Pasticcio - is een Italiaans operagenre, dat letterlijk pastei betekent. Deze typische 18e-eeuwse operavorm, is samengesteld uit aria's, ensembles en instrumentale stukken, afkomstig van verschillende bestaande opera's, gecomponeerd door een of meerdere componisten.
Radio-opera - is een operagenre dat vanaf 1920 met de opkomst van de radio, speciaal hiervoor gecomponeerd werd.
Rockopera - Moderne opera op rockmuziek, vergelijkbaar met de musical. Voorbeeld: Tommy van The Who. Wordt door de meesten niet echt als 'opera' beschouwd in klassieke zin.
Singspiel is een Duits opera-genre dat in de late achttiende en in het begin van de negentiende eeuw populair was.
zarzuela is een Spaans operagenre, enigszins gelijkend op de Franse Opéra-comique en het Duitse Singspiel, ontstaan aan het begin van de 17e eeuw in Spanje.

@MDT: While the genres of musicals and operas are related and there is some overlap between them, they are two different genres. Musicals is not a subgenre of operas. You're better off using the English version of Wikipedia. It's much better sourced, contains more and more detailed info, and has a much lower rate of errors than versions in other languages.
