Rayman 3D is obviously the best port of Rayman 2. You can tell just by the cover art!

Don't listen to the people who are really saying how awful the PS1 version is. It isn't bad, it's just... different, very very different. I do kind of like how Rayman has a bit more of a running start on the PS1 version.

To clarify, I was mainly basing what I said on what I've heard of the other versions; I really don't know how it compares.

3d rayman is best rayman because it means I dont have to buy a dreamcast  Yes, I know lots of Dreamcast things were cut from the 3DS port, but I save money and that's far more important

I really enjoyed Revolution. I actually really enjoyed the Front - just standing Rayman in various somewhat scenic places and looking out at the sea was a massive time sink for me. What can I say, I'm easily amused. But from a design standpoint, I think the Dreamcast version and its brothers probably takes it, the Isle of Doors is lovely. Though perhaps the PS1 will steal my heart after all.

Both the iOS and 3DS versions are ports of the PC version with only the Isle of Doors stuck on, they're not actually ports of the Dreamcast version itself. The graphics as well as the level design (which includes lighting placements, which were modified heavily in the Dreamcast version) are distinctly the PC version's.

If you want to experience the Dreamcast's slightly improved graphics you're going to have to play the Dreamcast version, unfortunately. :oops2:

If only they'd done it the other way around, ported the Dreamcast's level design and graphics but kept the Hall of Doors, that would've been brilliant. I hate the Isle.

Aaaah, that so? It would explain some of the differences in screenshots etc. Well, looks like I shall never have the full Rayman experience, what can you do eh?
The Isle is nicer to look at, though Christ on a pogo stick Rayman takes a long time to travel round it. Perhaps a future R2 port - I'm pretty certain there will be one - will take your advice.

Let's not forget that you end up permanently stuck on the 3DS version if you try to get the 1000th lum!

I'm going to have to disagree with you there, Ad. Both the 3DS and iOS versions may not have as good graphics as the DC version, but that is the version they are based on. They have the Hall of Doors, the Tomb of the Ancients Secret (including respective cheats), and some changes to the controls (such as flying shells) and the cutscene showing Rayman breaking all the lums. The iOS version also has the Lift minigame (in the demo) and a non-functioning hint-stone in the Woods of Light, that only ever appeared elsewhere in the Dreamcast version. As for level design, it is also from the Dreamcast version. The gap here is only found in Dreamcast-based versions, and is not found elsewhere (even in Revolution). It seems much more likely to me that the graphics were downgraded as iOS and 3DS couldn't handle them.

They do? In my copy of Rayman 3D, the flying shells control exactly like they do in the PC version for me, they don't have the stream effects coming off of the feet, and that cutscene doesn't play. Maybe a regional difference?

I can't say the same for the iOS version though since I never beat the whole game on it (I think I only got up to the Menhir Hills).

If that all that is the case though, maybe the Dreamcast's altered level lighting setups were layered on top and could easily be disabled, I can't think of any other explanation as to why they're identical to the PC's. Maybe at that point they had combined the game's source repository, and the 3DS and iOS versions aren't actually based off of any one version in particular.

Maybe, where are you from? Seems quite weird that yours doesn't have these. Can you do the Tomb of the Ancients Secret (B, Y, Right, Left, Right, Left on the 3DS).

Anyway, this video clearly shows both the stream effects and the cutscene on the 3DS version. I'll dig out my copy and see if they are on mine (I remember them being there).

Yes, just checked: my 3DS copy definitely has the flying shell streams.

Canada, I have the one with the redone Rayman 2 cover art where Rayman has red hair and is making that extremely bizarre face.

And holy crud, the stream effects look horrible there, as do the fire effects. I'm guessing that's another texture tiling screw-up like with the pirate faces.

Speaking of which, I don't have those pirate face tiling problems either. Maybe there were multiple editions of the game released?

This seems extremely weird to me. Maybe they "fixed" some of the issues in later releases (I assume you have a later release) by porting the PC version instead? I have the same version as the others, with the streams and pirate face tiling problems. I'd be interested to see what this version looks like in comparison to the version I have.

If you are the type of gamer that prefers to play games at home on a console then I would recommend 1 of these 3 versions of this game.
Rayman 2 Revolution: positive: large 3D interactive hub worlds, decent graphics, and the choice from more then then 3 languages for characters to speak in including the original jiberish, exclusive mini games not found in other versions, purchase power ups with lums negitive: long loading times, slow down at times

Rayman 2: the great escape: (PS1) positive: a unique experience, Rayman 2 beta demo at the end if you collect enough lums, voice acting, shorter then other versions of the game negative: no jiberish option, clunky control,

Rayman 2 the great escape: (dreamcast) positive: best looking graphics, (not counting pc version because I cannot confirm that version), exclusive mini games not found on other versions, engish voice acting in first cutscene negitive: jiberish in the rest of the game

You start the game with an english intro and then your stuck with jiberish for the rest of the game, and you don't have the option to change it like in other versions of this game. It's not that jiberish bad, you just don't have the option to change it.

Would you rather have low quality PS1 voice acting in Dreamcast version than gibberish?
