Hmm, can the archive be set to automatically take snapshots of pages? It always felt like it archived on a bit of a whim.
Either ways, I know we do have backups in case of catastrophe, we've used them in the past to restore some threads. But I don't know how we'd go about dealing with one of these online archives.

Re: Any questions on this board?
Basically the archive says the webpage isn't on the live web or cannot be archived, which surprises me. It makes me think we have an anti-WebArchive setup somewhere. Or maybe it just doesn't do forums? But that would be dumb... picking favourites for what and what not to archive.
And I think the WebArchive routinely crawls the web looking for pages to archive - maybe it routinely makes new backups of previously archived sites once they're in its database; I must admit I do not know the inner workings of the WayBack Machine.

Really? That's odd.
At the moment it just says it's not archived, nothing about the live web. Do you need to be signed in to "force archive" something now?

Yeah it says that when I try to browse it, too. If you go to the main website, then use "Add a page now", it tells you that message I posted earlier.

You neoliberal henchman of the capitalist oppressors!PluMGMK wrote:Well, the situation here is that the bus company is about to go insolvent, so they need to impose cuts. The fact that the strike can only accelerate this is what makes it so ludicrous, at least in my mind.
Strange, I can always ask Romano about a potential anti-archive setup but I have no idea how this works.Shrooblord wrote:I have a question: why can I not archive pages from the Rayman Pirate-Community to the Internet WebArchive's WayBack Machine?
Rest assured that with all our backups, there is no way our glorious past is going anywhere. But of course, yet another one can't hurt, in which case I'd recommend you use website-mirroring software to download all our pages one by one. Just be sure not to trigger Romano's trigger-happy DDOS protection.Shrooblord wrote:I want to safeguard some of our glorious forum's post for any catastrophic future event. Or is that not something we want as a community?

I was thinking of a red smiley with a hammer and sickle on its face but the resolution is just too low.PluMGMK wrote:Big red boon with Stalin moustache?
Reminds me that last night I was watching the debate between the candidates in the French presidential election and two of them are actual communists who repeated the same shit all evening, in answer to every question. Thankfully they're not gonna get more than 1% of the votes each.

I hear there were eleven candidates. I can't imagine that going well under any circumstances!

Re: Any questions on this board?
Well it didn't. All eleven were invited because of complaints made after the first debate, which only featured the five candidates scoring higher than a few percent in polls, but this second debate was just uninteresting and chaotic.

Yes I too have a question, why must we rely on Romano?Hunchman801 wrote:

Re: Any questions on this board?
I remember during our last general election we had three debates. The first and last had only the leaders of the four "main" parties, while the middle one had seven leaders. Incidentally I think it actually went the best of the three because of Claire Byrne's excellent moderating! But eleven… dear God!

He may not be very reactive but he sure as fuck knows what he's doing and it's worked quite well for us so far. I don't care for server administration and I'm quite happy we have someone that skilled taking care of it.Hoodcom wrote:Yes I too have a question, why must we rely on Romano?

Well, except for time syncing, the forum's time never is spot on.Hunchman801 wrote:He may not be very reactive but he sure as fuck knows what he's doing and it's worked quite well for us so far. My Minecraft server (dedicated box by the way) is 100% up and never fails at time sync.
Oh how I miss the days we did chat up a storm.

I'm guessing that doing it automatically could cause all kinds of problems for some applications?
