I've played both the Dreamcast and PS2 versions, and I prefer the PS2 version. It has more substance and replayability.

To this day I still regret selling rayman 2 for PS2. It is undoubtfully the best version in my opinion.

I have a copy of Revolution lying around in my games cabinet, but no PS2 to play it on, lol. Never had. I rescued Rev from a shelf of to-be-trashed games though; hope to be able to play it on a real console at some point.

I agree, not to mention to have the double of longevity.

You could always purchase a PS2.

A lot of people put importance on the length of gaems, but for example, for me, a really fun 6 hours is much better than a dragged out 15 hour experience. I don't need the extra stuff in revolution, I'm much happier with the original and I'd actually probably remove levels if I could.

But how about a really fun 15 hours?

That's a gem of a game, very rare, but if it happens, it's joyous! Except for the fact that it causes me to not play other games, thus exacerbating the backlog I already have
Mass effect trilogy is a good example of this, many many hours but terrific games

Disappointed. Should be higher than that guys. SEGA master race.

For the time when it came out, it was one of the best linear 3d platformers, and if you're me and you want to get on with, linear = good.
In fact there aren't many linear 3d platformers to this day for it to contend with, maybe 3d land/world and rayman 3...

As far as linear games go, it certainly allowed a lot of freedom compared to the likes of Crash Bandicoot. Definetly not FULLY free roaming like Banjo-Kazooie or Spyro, but still, excellent game.

One of my classmates in primary school owned a "2 in 1" pack of Rayman and Rayman 2 for the PS1.
I own the GOG and Steam versions of Rayman 2 for PC and I also have Revolution for the PS2. I personally think that in terms of overall content Revolution is the superior one. Now, if only it'd get a re-release for anything! As far as I'm aware it's running on Renderware, am I right or it is just an urban legend? xD

Revolution does indeed run on Renderware.

Pretty sure it explicitly notes the technology on boot up, yup.

It's been a while since I played it, so thanks for making it clear. Anyway, I heard that Renderware games are easier to port "cross-platform", so it's probably not the technical issues which are holding back the conecpt of the re-release.

Meh, in fairness, RR did have a few issues, despite being on superior hardware, the FPS could drop below 30 at times. And the game itself did have a few glitches and quirks that did sometimes detract from the experience, such as the music in levels only playing on the first visit.

I'm playing RR again, and a big yes to the framerate issues. Controls are a bit hazy too. I don't remember the music not playing, gonna have to get to a good backtracking point...

I do recall the framerate issue, that was noticeable, even as a child. Despite the minor technical issues I still completed the game 100% at least twice. Dang, I really should play it again, but atm I'm enjoying my brand new Wii Mini with it's own games.
I've played the GOG version app. 2 weeks ago and for any potential Steam users who are reading this, the latest build is finally compatible with the Steam Overlay which enables easier screenshot making.
