ps1 not originul hall of door
But whether we go with the more foresty hall or the spacey one, it proves that the hall doesn't
need to be a logical area. We're talking magic, weird creatures who created their own place to travel around their world. That's why magic is cool: There's no limitations, and if you're going to implement into your world, it makes much, much more sense to take advantage of that freedom.
Bradandez wrote:The atmosphere you speak of matches the ride venues at Disneyland. No wait, that's not true. Disneyland actually has atmosphere.
If the Hall of Doors doesn't portray surrealism or othewordly atmosphere I'm not really sure how you would approach those things at all.
Think of Rayman 2 as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon. So many people go into that album with a "im about to be fucking mind blown!!" attitude and come out disappointed, because they're expecting something that's entirely designed to cater to that feeling. That recent Steven Universe episode didn't treat the scene with the whole fusion thing as this special, emotional moment, but I think we can both agree that its rightfully deserving all the praise and attention.

First off, we can all figure out what a level is gonna contain just by reading the name of it. Second, if you don't dislike the subtle hints, then why are they a problem? And, you shot yourself in the foot as well because even the Halls have hints of what the levels gonna be!
The hints entirely make up the Isle, there's not much else to see or doing for the map. It's kind of like stripping the hall down to just the pirate or globox standing by the spiral door, and then just fancying them up a bit because it's getting all the attention.

Well if it's too cluttered, then wouldn't is rather have too much detail? The Isle focuses mainly on whatever is there to represent each level. Whether you find one approach better than the other is entirely opinion and I can't tell you you're wrong, but the Isle clearly stepped away from detail and more towards simplicity.

Ugh... UGH!
First off, I LOVED Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Even with that mindset. I was like "MAN, I heard real good stuff about this album!" I listened to it and it did not disappoint.
Second, I don't watch Steven Universe so I stopped right there.
Third, I also shot my foot because I draw stuff that seems to be "cluttered". So mostly, everyone's shooting themselves in the foot right now.
Everyone has opinions, we're gonna disagree. There's going to be a majority and a minority of these opinions. I've already shared my thoughts on the Halls and the Isle. I like its simplicity, it's very detailed, and it's not cluttered/so closed in. I've said all what I have to say.

Keane wrote:I believe [the Hall of Doors is] just a forest at night, and the path is a river reflecting the stars.
Is that true? I get the feeling the river
is stars, much like the Void hole in the Woods of Light when freeing the Teensie Council. Then again, there is that Plum that falls into 'water' at the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire and Ssssam sticking up from a puddle of water at the entrance to the Marshes. But maybe the water splash and ripple effect are themselves part of a hologram.

I figured it was a river of stars, as befits an area like the Hall of Doors.

I figured it was a made up pathway for a game so that you could easily enter the levels from a central point.

^^
Since the first Door was formed in ethereal Void, it made sense to me the rest should also. Door Stones are just... special. And that thing in the Menhir Hills, it, er, I dunno - timey-wimey spacey-wacey?

Timey-wimey spacey-wacey is probably the best explanation for most things Rayman-related

Yep totally, phew, glad we got to the bottom of that one

I'm pretty sure there's a splash effect when Rayman jumps into a door.
And what thing in the Menhir Hills?

Gameloft NEEDED* to make the final boss easier in the iOS version. There's no way to beat Razorbeard in the mobile version, except if you quickscoped once.
*They removed it, I believe it was for the glitches bishes, or the bugs rugs.

There is. Water and spacetime are clearly connected in the Glade.
At the end of the Menhir Hills you and the shell jump off a cliff into a giant spiral door to exit.

Huh, yeah there is. Okay... starry river... made of watery stars? xD
And what thing in the Menhir Hills?
At the end of the Menhir Hills, there's a small cutscene where Rayman chases his Walking Shell off of a cliff into the sea where there's a Spiral Door. Though, come to think of it, doesn't it float
above the sea as opposed to in it?

My theories are always right

And yes, above the sea, halfway down the cliff.

Could be above, could also be in, the texturing doesn't exactly make it clear.
Now that I think about it, it would have made a lot more sense for the Sanctuary of Water and Ice to come after that.

Oooh. That would've been good. Next port, perhaps?
I do wonder what happened to that poor walking shell. Clearly it didn't survive the portal.

It got lost in the time vortex and became the Heart of the World.
