Might not have been like that when the game came out as the computers weren't as powerful then, though I'm not sure
I also have tried it on my win 98 laptop, the game still goes ape shit.

Hm, you know a while back I said the breakout minigame handstand animation sometimes plays in Rayman Advance when it's corrupted, despite the animation not normally appearing at all in that game? I was corrupting Rayman Advance again today and I got Rayman to do the 'invisible jet ski' animation that plays after a boss battle in some versions of the game. Unfortunately I couldn't get good footage of it, as it happens seemingly randomly or only with a very specific set of circumstances, while Rayman is flying all over the place and getting stuck. Restarting the game over and over was tedious. Luckily I still know the settings for the Vinesauce ROM Corruptor to get that specific corruption, so I'll try to get a good recording of it. But yeah, that animation is also still apparently in the GBA port despite not being used at all.
Edit: Got some fairly good footage of it. The first video I got had Rayman up at the top of the screen, half cut off and blocked by the lives counter, but in this one he's in clear view. The very beginning of the animation is cut off though.
Vinesauce ROM Corruptor settings:
Start Byte: 3A0000
End Byte: 3B0000
Add 5 to byte
And then I enter a level and spam the controls until this animation happens. It helps to save-state right before entering the level, as Rayman gets stuck a lot and constantly restarting the game is annoying.

That's interesting, though not that strange as it was a port of the PC version which had those animations. Though I wonder why they weren't used in the game if they were in the files somewhere?

I've never seen this animation, very interesting, I should try corrupting the game sometimes

That animation shows up in the PC version of R1, so no novelty for me. What is interesting is seeing the presence of the data in the GBA cartridge.

Sorry to once again fill this topic with GBA corruptions (maybe I ought to make my own thread for it) but I found something interesting just yesterday. Corrupting two specific bytes in a certain way causes a world to take on the name of another, or of the save file itself, and entering a level in that corrupt world has strange results. Among the results I found a Band Land area I don't really remember the location of (Oddly enough it happened in the Blue Mountains, under the name Candy Chateau), a part of the Dream Forest I don't remember too well but I think it might be from Moskito's nest (I have better footage of it in another video) and a part of Candy Chateau I don't recognise. Some levels took me to the Bzzit battle, which usually froze before Bzzit appeared, and Betilla encounters, in which Rayman would be stuck staring at her in silence. There were a lot of background and music mismatches too. I must say, Band Land and Blue Mountains backgrounds look really pretty against Dream Forest scenery.
Edit: Just noticed the water in the Candy Chateau part is blue, when it's usually yellow in Rayman Advance. Huh.

I love your corruption videos, THEdragon! There aren't people often digging into Rayman 1 like this. Do you know if the test(?) areas in your video are in the PC version?

Thanks! I don't know if these areas are in the PC version as well, though I do recall someone having accessed level areas of a similar nature in a particular version of the game. Might have been the PC version, not sure.
Also, here's a better video of that Dream Forest area. I managed to narrow the corruption down to a very small range, so the levels would get swapped around without causing too many other glitches, like the hitboxes being sent way off (Which is why I had trouble with this level the first time).

I actually manager to find an unused map in the PC version, though it's pretty boring. I'll make a video of it later
Edit: Never mind, it wasn't an unused level Basically I opened the level in The Dream Forest when it was a Band Land level so it changed the events in the level to the Dream Forest events instead. As the level was originally just a Magician challenge it looked kind of empty and with the wrong events in made it look very weird (there were hunters and moskitos in the level instead doing their classic animations, though they were not solid). So I guess I didn't find an unused level after all
I just changed name of the level files so it loaded a different level instead. It doesn't work in most games though here it did. Though swapping level between worlds will cause it to load the wrong events resulting in some REALLY strange things sometimes and the background will use the wrong color palett.

Haha, sounds fun! If I had the PC version of Rayman on my current laptop I'd give it a go.
Actually, I think that's mostly what I did with Rayman Advance, but with swapping values instead of names. Since the Vinesauce ROM Corruptor allows the user to have specific values within the corruption range with another. In the case of my video the first value was 3 (third world, Blue Mountains) and the second value corresponded to the world it was swapped for- 6 for Candy Chateau, 1 for Dream Forest, 5 for Caves of Skops, etc. Though it didn't always work as expected. Changing the second value to 0 or something higher than 6 would rename the world to whatever the last world name shown was (in my case, the save file name) and would have unexpected results.

A week later and no-one's given Knuckles2001 his file, what a shame!
Well, anyway, here's what happens when I learn to play God with the Vinesauce ROM Corruptor.

Thanks Harpic.
The animation where Rayman is standing on his hands and he kicks his feet outwards, that wasn't used in the Breakout minigame, was it? I recall it being in the Rayman 1 beta or demo or something. It's in Rayman Advance, too, though like the rest of the handstand animations it's not actually used in that port.
