It's nice that he's trying to do 3D, but for a real fangame, he'll have to do everything in 3D and sadly, I think he'll fail in the end. :(

Oh shut up.
In my defense, I had no idea of the incredible talent and determination Ad would later demonstrate. I'm pretty sure I can safely retract that statement now. :P
Me too. It is incredible how this project keeps going on and evolving as time passes. Every time I see new stuff about the fangame, the more I want to try it out in the end. It has been centuries I don't visit this thread and holy cow, the 3D models of Rayman and Ly :o! A lot of changes since the last time I visited this but I will end up repeating myself: great, great stuff!

Shrooblord wrote:Hey Addy, where's that picture of Ly we propped up on the toadstool with the Lum in her hands? Did you show that here before?
I never actually posted that, no, mostly because the rigging on Ly is pretty bad at the moment, and any hyper-extension of the joints looks abysmal.
Ambidextroid wrote:You should make it as surreal and quirky as possible, like Rayman 2 was.
Surreal, absolutely. Quirky, yes, but not to the point where it makes the whole experience feel too alien. Many of the environments will give off a Rayman 1/2-esque vibe, but the overall tone will be different.
Ambidextroid wrote:And add Jano, he's cool.
He does play a small role in the story, but not immediately relating to the events of the game, he relates to a character's origin.

PS: I didn't masturbated.

I think you should scrap the Rayman model and replace it with a Jano model and call it "Jano 1.5"

I'm interested in seeing what kind of art-based decisions you'll make if you decide to model Jano for the game. I've been paying some close attention to that texturing work and its... wrinkly to say the least.

Bridging the gap between the first and second Jano games, aye?

You know it. There probably won't be a Jano model though, he'll likely just show up as a drawing in some knowledge book of sorts or whatevermajig.

Aw muh guh that's beautiful.
Someone should definitely make a Jano game. Such a compelling protagonist.

You should make a Jano model for the game! He's such a cool guy!

I drew a picture of him for my signature, but never used it.

You should seriously put him in though he is the best.

I loved that part of the movie! :D
Anyway, Ad, I'm wondering, is there any kind of logical order in which you guys are doing all this?
I mean, I've seen environmental works, I've seen game play mechanics and I've seen modelling of sorts, but I'm just wondering if you're doing everything at random and making what you feel like.
Don't get me wrong, I mean, I love the way this is slowly coming together, it's just that I'm a little confused how you can create all this stuff when the overall story isn't yet completed (unless it is, of course)

If it's anything like how I'm approaching my game (which I strongly feel it is), it's pretty much 'whatever he feels like' but, of course, with an order of priorities. If he needs to work on Rayman's base mechanics and Ly's model, he's probably gonna go for mechanics until he gets fed up with it and distracts himself with the model for a while.

't Is the blessing and the curse of being able to create your own game with a small group of friends and having no deadlines.

EDIT:
Excuse me, that makes it sound severely lacking in finesse. Don't forget Ad's a suave guy with style, yo.

Heh. When I search Google Images for 'Polokus Rayman 2', among a lot of RPC pictures from the wiki and the obligatory Yu-Gi-Oh card with him on it, is a picture from Revenge of the Dark. You're getting popular, Addy!

Just wanted to leave that here.

Where's this 2016 number come from? I'm under the impression that this is still under the "until it's done" timing.

Looking it up, the last time that figure was given appears to be 2011, more recently Ad has stuck by no official release date.

Adsolution, I know you made all the previous stuff disappear from the first post for more clarity and because you are planning to create a website specifically designed for ROTD, but would it be possible to at least leave a link to your YT channel during the transition so people would be enabled to easily access all the already available content?

Just a suggestion: most people following know where to seek and find all of it, but it's not the case for newcomers, who might be discouraged by the first post...:)

Yeah I wouldn't put down any kind of release date yet. Remember that Black Mesa Source took a whopping eight years to release even with a team of 40 people working it, and the release still needed a lot of bug fixing, and didn't include the online mode as well as had probably three full hours of gameplay cut to be seen in a "final version" that's still not finished more than two years later. And that game is a remake, where big chunks of the enemies, level design, dialogue, story, and some other bits and pieces were already finished for them. For RotD to look, feel, and act like a quality game is gonna take a ton of effort and time.

---

How are you guys planning to get Rayman around the world? Is there a world map planned?
