1. The third Slapdash doesn't appear because you have to hit the switch where the first one appeared. Restart.
2. The hoodlums shoot each other. It happened to me everytime I played it and it makes you lose 30 points. Restart.
3. One of the hoodlums doesn't even %$^$%^#%^$% appear! Restart.

My god, if I knew about this I would have left 30 extra points in the previous part!!!!!!
I empathise with you for the first two points, as I experienced them both hundreds of times :( But the third, I'm a little confused with. A Hoodlum didn't appear? That's never happened to me fortunately, but it sounds like quite a mess up. I wonder what's preventing it from appearing...
For your second point, I find it useful to start the combo immediately; head for the nearest possible Slapdash and get away from any clusters of Hoodlums. You have to keep a watchful eye on their shots too, but if you manoeuvre with quick pace it shouldn't be too much of an issue. When I first started playing part 4 I agreed with you in that I should have collected a further 30 or so points, but after playing a few times, I consider it easier to start with 94902.

Anyway I'm going to play part 2 TBOM now. I should finish it very soon because of its simplicity so I'll see you all in about an hour :bad:

Okay, thanks for the tip and good luck with part 2 of TBOM. I'll try part 4 of CF again now, hopefully it works out soon. But yeah, the hoodlum not appearing wasn't funny at all. I missed a good deal of combo points and some base points too, which indicated exactly that one Hoodlum was missing. And it happened to me twice!

How peculiar. Well I'm glad it never happened to me, that would infuriate me.

Good news for me is that I've finished part 2 with 13371 points. It's bloody annoying how the big combo often messes up over miniscule things that are easy... like breaking the piggybank in time after the third gem. Now I'm entering part 3 TBOM a.k.a part 3 HELL. Was there some special way to start with the gems on the mushrooms, I wonder? I've heard this method being dotted around but I never paid too much attention to it.

I have no idea, it's a long time ago I played that combo. Same with the one in part 2 SBTC, I cannot remember at all how I used to do those. :(

I got 18960 in part 1, there wasn't much more to be squeezed out of there so I settled with it. Now one of the most hellish parts in the game, despite the fact that it's a rather cold level... :fou: :fou: :fou:

Jona: CF part 4 nearly drove me mad for the exact same reasons you mention. It took me many days to get it right. It won’t do you any good trying to get extra 30 points though. Enter the arena with 94.902 points and get hit three times by the Slapdashes, that’s the way to play this part.

Xenon: Starting on the Mushroom is described in the walkthrough as method 2. It’s the method I use when I play this part and it also involves killing the Hoodlums with one hit wherever possible. If I remember correctly it gives you an extra 600-700 points extra compared to method 1 in the video.

Mostwanted: I take a look at the last room every time I play FC part 4. But I can’t possibly get twenty items in combo before the Tribelle. There are twenty one objects in this room apart from the Tribelle and I cannot get any of the two gems highest up in any meaningful combo. Also, the gems on the floor are too far apart to be of any help.

I've experienced similar problems today. I had to force myself to continue after the third blue light appeared on the position of the first Slapdash four times in a row. It's terribly annoying because you can't even do anything about it. But the most stupid thing is something else: one Hoodstyler gets killed during the cinematic. I get the points but the combo is ruined and I have to restart. It doesn't happen very often but even once is too often for such an occurance.

This part is a real mess and my best attempt ended after I missed the first Hoodlum of the third wave by millimeters and that after everything went perfectly up to that point.

How is this possible though? It appears impossible to shoot the cage before the Hoodstyler because no red arrow appears. Mostwanted said there was a certain trick involving running to the cage before the hoodlum wakes up, but it hasn't ever worked for me.
It's hard to explain but I'll make a video of it.

Oh yeah, I even forgot about that, it happened to me a couple of times too that one of them got killed during the cinematic.. what the hell? And yep, I once had a perfect run up to the third wave too, and missed the first Hoodlum of the last wave because it kept avoiding my jumps, and at some point it was too far away and combo ran out at the same time. Fortunately I made it now. Keep at it, you'll make it soon too!

I think I'll first replay part 1 of SBTC a few more times to see if I can get something decent above 18960.

@ Jona: Congrats! Do you have the maximum score?
@ sfn42: A video would be great, but don't rush, it's not vitally important because I've finished CF now.
@ MandM: I'm having troubles understanding the first part of the extended combo. Take a look at my video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvE41d6lVtM
Is this similar to how you play? If not, does it lose me any points?

Xenon: That's it exactly. And how nice to see a Hoodblaster alive in this scene. It happens so rarely for me :grrrrrr:

sfn: I would welcome a video as well. I play CF for fun at the moment when I need a break from BOM. And by the way, BOM is turning into the hardest thing I have played for a long, long time. It's up there with the hardest parts in LS and SBTC.

That @[\]%$$%%$-part 4 of CF. It's the most cruel joke ever. I played for about 75 minutes and I came to the Hoodstomper-combo 4 times. FOUR TIMES!!! And two of these attempts were with 96398. I was forced to start entering Master Kaag's arena with 94903 otherwise I could screw about 90% percent of all attempts. Yeah, with a quote of about 90% the third blue light appears at the wrong spot. That's just cruel! And when I wait for the light to disappear, to get the third Slapdash out at another position and to activate all three lights again, what happens usually? The three Slapdashes appear in three adjacent spots and make a game of shooting each other...result obvious.

So I can't give you the video now because I'm too angry at this game to play it.

Hehe, I see you suffer the gruesome pain of playing for max. in CF. I think I broke a controller first time I played this combo. It is mindnumbingly annoying that so many little things can go wrong in such short time. Not that it is any consolation, but this time frame of 75 minutes is close to what I have to endure of restarts to get the Hoodblaster alive in BOM part 3. I finished this part a few weekes ago and I remember putting on a cd (lasted 60 minutes) and the Hoodblaster came out alive once during this musical seance.

And now I play BOM part 6 the hard way. It's HELL keeping him on the ball during long series of hits and it's even worse since this has to be repeated ad nauseam. :beurk:

I'm having trouble there now. There seems to be nine annoying problems that frequently cause restarts.
  • Hoodblaster being killed by the Muddibogs at the beginning
  • Matuvu not being taken, either because Rayman is standing at the wrong place or because time runs out
  • Not taking the final Muddibog in combo for pathetic reasons
  • Falling down into the bog whilst hitting the second Hoodblaster
  • Not reaching the first Muddibog in the shed in time (this is the most common)
  • Not getting to the pig pot in time
  • The two Muddibogs near the Meadowscrews behave poorly
  • Bad timings with the final Hoodblasters
  • Error when trying the green gem combo
I hope my controller survives this level.

And add to that that sometimes the Muddibogs in the corridor kill themselves as you walk up to them!!! That happened to me a LOT of times too. It's such a long combo, and even in smaller combos there's a lot that can go wrong... I wish you very much good luck.

MandM, how many times did you manage to hit Razoff in the fifth part? Three times for 1500 points?

And yep I got the maximum in CF. Good luck with that btw sfn ;)

Haven't managed a better score in the first part of SBTC yet, the netting combo is annoying. Plus, it's harder to keep the combo going longer with those yellow gems around, cause those gems near the turret at the front of the ship make it harder to combine the turrets with each other sometimes. That's a bit annoying. Hey, maybe I'll just take turns playing part 1 and part 2, to keep the variation going, and to have a chance of getting a nicer score after part 1. I've lost my touch in part 2 quite a bit, but I'll regain it as soon as I got the hang of those combos again. I used to do the combo on the circular arena in my own way, but I forgot what it is, so I'll just use MandM's way now.

Thanks, I'll certainly be needing all the luck I can get. Fortunately though I don't have quite the drudgery you endured with the Muddibogs in the corridor, because (for some reason) I've chosen to do the extended version which is worth 700 more points. I don't need to do any preparation so the problem that counterbalances this is I'm not allowed to weaken any Hoodblaster, else valuable points will just be thrown away.

I think I've gone insane because I'm going for a target of 44500 points after part 3.

EDIT: I may decide to weaken the second Hoodblaster, actually. It's really getting on my nerves. I don't know whether that's what is causing the problem though, but whatever.

I saw in the video that you got hit by the Hoodblaster while swinging on the hook, lol. That Hoodblaster was never really a problem for me. By the way, I have always used some preparation, like making sure the Hoodlum near the piggy banks (after you cross the bridge where that piranha flies over regularly) stands in the correct position. That, and I always used to go to the area where Hoodlums arrive with ships. When you go there, the Hoodlums arrive earlier, and from what I remember, it doesn't give you as many timing problems. But I could be wrong, since it's a long time ago I played that level.

And I always went for the maximum points. Never weakened the Hoodblasters in that part, it's quite doable if you don't. Or you could like choose which ones you can easily beat with a charged fist, and weaken the ones that are harder to beat in the combo.

Thanks but I don't need it anymore. I've finished CF with the infamous 109759 and it didn't take me as long as I had anticipated, especially after that horrible afternoon session. And afterwards I have to say CF was not that hard and a lot of fun, so much that I'll probably play it again very soon, just to relax.

The next level for me to play will be TBOM, however. I've already finished part 1 with my usual 2780 (I got that score everytime since I had about 600000) and tomorrow or the day after I will go for part 2.

BTW, I haven't forgotten about the video. I just didn't have access to a digicam today. But you'll definitely get it on Monday, as I'm busy tomorrow.

@ sfn42: Congratulations! Why has everyone completed part 4 CF in a faster time than me? :pfff: Anyway, I wonder what the true maximum score is after part 1 BOM? I think it's 2860 but it could be more if you could include the yellow gems on the barrels with the main combo in this room.

----

I suppose I could get the final Hoodblasters in a good position, but in all honesty they really aren't the problem anymore. After the piggybank business, I can normally get everything else to work fine, except for one pitfall (LOL) being that I fall inbetween the second bridge and the wooden platform quite often. Such a failure combines both humiliation and infuriation.

The one part that really makes my blood boil is the corridor between the two areas. I would say that 75% of all successful starts end here, because of those cuntvines that always get in the way. And when I finally do get passed this corridor, I get faced with some cuntfish who always jumps at the one time I try and cross the bridge, making it impossible to shoot the piggybank in time. I think this is very hard anyway. :grrr:

Here's a pie chart showing the causes of my restarts:
pieqy0.png
But yeah those Muddibogs suck so much... What's so annoying about them is how your shots don't actually hit them if you shoot at a certain time. It's almost as if they catch the fist before burrowing back underground. I am seriously beginning to wonder whether the Muddibogs were designed by a cauliflower.

Re: Rayman 3 Scores

Post by Jona »

Strange you have so much trouble with the corridors :p I can't remember having too much trouble there, except for the muddibogs committing suicide. I sometimes get hit by that stupid fish though. The worst part must still be the Hoodblaster not surviving. The strange thing is that it's completely different how many times he survives on each console. And it's even different on different PC's! I remember playing part 3 on my old comp, because there he survived about 1 in 3 times, and on my newer comp it was like 1 in 15 times. I wonder what it is on my newest comp now

And I have a feeling SBTC is going to take me quite a while to complete. And you know, I won't even mind playing part 3 of it over and over, at least it only depends on one nice combo, the rest is all easy and relaxing. What's also nice is that if you fail the combo, it's usually not really your fault, since most of it depends on pure luck anyway. Both landing on the edge to trigger the launching glitch and getting the green gem depends on luck...

I am not sure what is actually possible in Begoniax's library (or whatever that room is). I know it is possible to combo the red gem near the mirror with the gems on the left side of the room (that would result in 2840 points) but I don't know whether this combo can be continued with the yellow gems beneath the staircase.

Another thing I've been wondering about for a long time is the Matuvu and if it is possible to combo it with the 6 gems on the far right edge. I've attempted it but the camera is a major issue at that part of the level but I still think there could be a way to do that combo.
