Ah, that would be a misunderstanding on my part then. I simply feel that using 'autistic' as an insult is at about the same level as still insisting on calling things 'retarded' or 'gay.' Mannerisms that I, and more or less every content creator I follow online, left behind several years ago. And if I had to put a year to around when I and they were doing those things, I'd probably say, you guessed it, 2011.

To put it another way, I suppose I could've just said: "It's 2016." Instead.

There are plenty of words in our day-to-day vocabulary that were at one point considered taboo, and the fact that they aren't anymore was not in any way aided by the kind of worldview you're advocating. Such a worldview allows you to discard context and the artistic merit language has to offer, if you just feel like it.

You're comparing the work of famous content creators whose livelihoods (mostly) depend on being accessible to a forum post that maybe like twenty people are going to see, only a small fraction of whom are likely to be bothered by it, most of whom are probably only acting on behalf of those who might actually be offended by it, none of whom are likely to read my post. If one does, then my sympathies go out to them and their personal issues.

I'm beyond confused right now as to why everyone's acting so nauseatingly condescending over a single jesting post of mine which, by all means, is a couple orders of magnitude tamer than anything you'd find between two friends upholding a rapport in an IM chatlog.

And are you really trying to imply that one would have to have 'issues' to not want to use slurs meant to insult the disabled and minorities? Look, I'm a big fan of George Carlin's philosophy on language: words are words, what matters is intent. And the intent here is still using them as insults. There is no 'artistic merit' in cussing out a former friend while 'shitposting' if that's really what you're going to call that. And if all that was 'tame' by your standards, I'd really hate to see the kind of shit you say in private.

Maybe it would be appropriate to have this conversation moved to the Off Topic, since the ROM dump is pretty interesting, and this isn't the best place for this. I'll just write here for now, and someone can do something about that if they want to.

Just like that, you've made an outrageous claim and drawn some completely arbitrary line where none actually exists, based purely off of an emotional connection to the semantics I used.

"Artistic merit" doesn't have to be particularly deep or meaningful, all it implies is that the meaning behind the words isn't totally literal, which can range from a crude joke to Shakespearian poetry. When friends (or people who you know can take a joke, usually) "insult" one-another by calling them, say, "retarded", they're not claiming that that person is retarded, nor are they making fun of retarded people: they're mocking the sorts of people who would actually say those things in seriousness.

This is how every joke of this nature functions, it's humour 101. You claim to understand Carlin's philosophy, yet you've overlooked something so fundamental.

Let's say you're right on this point: to an oustider looking in, none of that is apparent, especially when it's all just text. You could have 10 different people read those posts, and you'd likely get 10 different interpretations. A couple might agree with you, a couple might agree with me, and a couple more might think we're both idiots. Without vocal cues or tone of voice to go on, it's much harder to tell if it was all just verbal jousting, especially when you specifically used phrases like 'this is why we aren't friends anymore.' Hell, even using emotes can help clarify this sort of thing. Even if you were using those words in the manner you claim, that's not how it looks.

And as for your issue with my interpretation of Carlin, I'll admit it's been a while since I listened to his stuff, (mostly because I've listened to the majority of it to death) but I very specifically remember him saying in either one of his recitations of the '7 Dirty Words' or adjacent material, on either fuck or motherfucker, or maybe even cocksucker, that people 'put the hatred back into the word' with the ways they used it. The word in and of itself is just a word, when independent of intent or context. But with the right intent and the right context, it is very much insulting and unnecessary. The problem here being that intent doesn't translate well through text.

The easiest solution is to simply not use the words that still have more inherent, targeted hatred perceived as being synonymous with them, whether they should or not. Plus, limiting your vocabulary in that manner can force you to be more creative with your humor anyways.

Well, at least 'triggered' being misused is less surprising given how mangled it's been by pop culture at this point.

Well, it's pretty common knowledge the game didn't do anything to amend Sticker Star's shortcomings, you don't really need to play it to experience something unseen in trailers and reviews. Unless you want the thrill of going through card menus every battle.

If anything the trailers kind of mislead me to believe its presentation would have enough charm to make the gameplay forgivable, but there's only so many times you can do "paper gimmick and toad cracks a pun."
