Talking about that, you already got the error "pure virtual function access call" ? Can't play Half-Life 2 because of it ! And I can't find any valuable fix...

Haven't tried HL2 in ages, but that sounds like a stupid typo in their C++ code, which you'll just have to wait for them to fix… How long has it been happening?

Ever? You might have a corrupted copy then, or perhaps the client/server binaries don't match the engine version. This really doesn't sound like an environment problem.
