Heh Rayman running around in the early clips of Rayman 2's production reminds me of how he ran in the earliest footage of RotD. ;D

I always assumed Rayman fainted at the end of the trailer from watching a screen that showed how amazingly awesome Rayman 2 was and that the screen had fainted also.

I've almost completed the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2, and I can say with a lot of certainty that for me, this is the definitive version of Rayman 2.

It doesn't change any level designs from the original, but improves on the N64 version. It has better graphics, better music, it's a bit more challenging because of some Robo Pirates added here and there, and in my opinion the Isle of Doors is much more visually appealing than the Hall of Doors, and it represents the Glade of Dreams better. There's also Globox Village, which isn't that much, but still a nice addition, exclusive to this version. Graphics wise the Dreamcast adds special effects that not even the PC version has.

The 3DS version is a port of the Dreamcast version, but inferior as it lacks Globox Village.

I haven't played Rayman Revolution, but I heard it has awful loading times, and like the PS1 version, it changed the layout of several levels.

In the end, there's nothing like playing the Dreamcast version on the actual Dreamcast console.

Rayman Revolution's loadings aren't that long, but the game constantly asks you if you want to save your progress after those.

I definitely recommend RR if players seek for the double of the longevity and for a greater exploration of the Glade of Dreams. It also has got interesting trivia that other versions don't have like the return of Bzzit (the pink mosquito of the Anguish Lagoon that befriends with Rayman after the fight).

I don't remember it having obscene load times, the irksome points are more to do with unstable FPS and unwarranted level changes than anything else.

But on good PC and PCSX2 config shouldn't be any special FPS drops, but for those who experienced that, I suggest DC version, because of a great smooth of gameplay. Graphics is sometimes even better than PS2, although 2 or 4x native resolution gives very nice quality, but i'ts the same for DC. But DC has even sharper textures. I rather confess opion of small majority of DC version, e.g. for some veterans of game. It gave me more fun. In my opinion it's some kind of regression to not play on emulator nowadays, which give much better quality when you set some things. Ok, disadvantage of nullDC is still artifacts, but I haven't checked on Chankast etc.
Actually it should be written elsewhere.

Nothing to do with gameplay, but I really, really don't like the Isle, and I love the hall of doors. I like the hall of doors better than the Revolution hub even to be honest, but that's just because I prefer the linear and easy level selection.
Still, the Hall was really cool. It's a shame RR didn't even have those huge door cut scenes, < really liked those too. This is why the PC version is my favourite.

The Hall sucks ass. Isle is where it's at. It's a sweet ass miniature scale of the Glade of Dreams. Hall ain't got nothing.

One of a less popular opinions I think.
Instead of a miniature version of Glade of Dreams, we have a full scale version in Revolution. And the Hall of Doors makes an impression of more climate perhaps because of closer 3D perspective than in DC.

Revolution hub is easily my favorite because you're actually able to explore it all on foot.

I've been digging around in the 3DS version and I've noticed a few things. Remember when it was first announced and Ubisoft touted features like an "improved learning curve". Well, they might not have been lying after all. Some members have noted that the 3DS version does contain some level changes, like the addition of a spider web in Umber's chamber in The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire, and the change in position of the plum near that area. But I've also noticed something else: some of these elements change depending on the number of lums the player has obtained. I did a quick test, first, I got to the end of the penultimate part of The Fairy Glade collecting every available lum, and at the end of the level was an electric beam absent in the other versions. I then created a new save and did it again, this time avoiding every lum. This time, the beam was gone.

What this means is that the 3DS version dynamically adds and removes obstacles depending on the player's progress. It would be interesting (and painstaking :P) to see exactly where obstacles have been added and which ones are removed, as this is a feature exclusive to this version that I've never heard of before.

Hmm, some of those changes are from the Dreamcast version, that spider web was present in Umber's chamber in there too.

But yeah, a dynamic difficulty system sound intriguing, though I wonder if there's much point, given how much mollycoddling R3D already has.

I had no idea about the difficulty fact but I believe it is normal since I know the game by heart... :oops2:

But that is an interesting detail! I could try it out one of these days.
