I'm not completely with this conversation, but I think what Anaphasiia means is that she doesn't see the point of using external shaders, given that the game engine is accessible and its own shaders can be modified. From what I've seen, this SweetFX is a third party tool that allows for folks to modify the look of finished and compiled games, as opposed to one which is in production.

My opinion is that every currently released game should be modified by reshade/sweetfx/gemfx by devs, in order to increase graphics quality on a level which is unreachable without these tools. Maybe it sounds strange but, access to whole developer tools doesn't solve everything. Every engine has some limitations and there are some features which may be not included, but we may have them in enumerated tools.
Every game after release, is easily made better by people in matter of graphics while using them.
The problem is, variety of game areas which determines cuts in settings, or differences of quality on such different areas. Day/night/snow/other weather conditions.

Just go their website and look at Doom 3 and Dead Space presets, and Farcry 3.
It's all post-processing. You must be easily fooled by lens flares, depth of field and contrast/colour correction.

Like Master said, CryEngine gives full source and shader access. You can just program a better shader or better post-processing if you don't like default ones. There is no imaginary limitation to this.

In cases like DooM 3, the game has built in color filters, SweetFX can actually correct the problem by changing the coulour value to make the game more realistic, in addition it can make textures look more clear, thus improving graphic quality for ID tech 3 or 4 based games such as RTCW, Quake 4...
And in games with old graphic libraries, code injection allows to give a new youth to the images with new modern features.
It really does magic, I'm pretty exigent with graphic quality and sweetfx does a really amazing job, even more when combined with visual quality enhancing mods.
I dunno, movement blur adds so much immersion in games. (First Person Shooter fan here)
But I understand some doesn't like eye candy apported by the thing, but being a 2000 - 2013 games freak I like to give a little bacta to what I'm playing, that's all.

So why there are some good presets for games on CryEngine too, and they do a good job.
For Crysis 3 even.
Regular people are better graphic designers?
In fact, CryEngine has poor documentation, and other games except Crysis, doesn't look astonishingly on it.

Mediator Framework works also with static images. So you can check it also yourself.
After tweaking some bloom or HDR, gamma settings, it may look better, without this strong light, with decent light. I have dozens of these presets for various games.
The one problem with SweetFX is, that every scene causes other kind of problems.
But there are some people who mastered this tweaks pretty good. Better than me for sure, and your game will be tweaked well after release for sure, since it has some unused potential as every game. But creating such presets on some higher level is not that easy.

That looks like if JJ Abrams and Michael Bay were cousins and had a homo incest child.

Revenge of the Dark is supposed to look like a painting with soft colors and soft shading. Paintings don't usually suffer from overexposure or lens flares. Besides, nothing you did in that image couldn't also be done in CryEngine, if that's the way we wanted it to look. You're free to use SweetFX on the game if you like, but that would only be to suit your own preference (making the game look like it a bad movie filmed on a potato), as it would be straying from the original vision.

Honestly? I don't really enjoy that invention.

I'm part of the team but I don't do anything special. I just communicate with others.

I guess Rayman 2 reshaders is working like sonic generations mod installer swapping files and running manager.
