I'm utterly fucking amazed by how people don't find it stunningly obvious that, given my age, this is perfectly normal. Do you think that when I was thirteen (2009) I had any idea what I was doing? I was fucking thirteen, and now I'm only twenty. I only started learning C++ a little over a year ago, and while I'm making great progress regarding development in general, I'm still learning even at this stage (though I've come a long way). It may seem like I'm still screwing around in testing areas in my YouTube videos, but look at the difference in quality between those tests.
incognito wrote:look at Lucky3's fangame, and how active it is...
Now you're just being a total retard. Lucky3 clearly isn't aiming for triple-A quality; Rayman: AFG is reminiscent of an early PS2 game, and that's absolutely fine. That's his decision, a perfectly respectable one as a small indie developer, and I think he's doing a great job. I haven't made the same decision though - the amount of time it would take to model the entire forest seen in AFG is similar to the amount of time it would take to model a single tree for ROTD. My game and character mechanics are also significantly more advanced.
It's as if you also somehow came to the conclusion that the only progress I've made is what you've seen in whatever videos and screenshots I (or Rayfist) have posted (almost none as of late). Why would you think that? I've made it clear on innumerable occasions that I won't be posting frequent updates.
incognito wrote:I don't say it won't be made, but is gonna be like Daikatana and mighty number nine.
Wtf?
incognito wrote:I'm pretty sure the only thing that keeps Ad from stopping it is the money he put in the game.
I've put no money into the game. I've bought equipment here and there, but none of that was exclusively for the purpose of working on ROTD. Both Gwee and Spanex/Pipann are volunteering. Additionally, I find this sentiment you're espousing rather disturbing. Do you honestly think I would be trying to make breathtaking scenery like this:
if I wasn't absolutely in love with what I was doing?
I'm very thankful to all those who've understood the obvious (a.k.a. the first few things I mentioned in this post). For those who sit there doing fuck all and wonder how anything is made whilst throwing around these almost passive-aggressive questions and accusations, eat a dick.

Calm down, Ad. I think it's safe to say that most of us highly respect what you guys are doing, some of us are even in awe that you're able to do that (myself included, who has an idea for a video game that will sadly never be implemented because I do not have the courage to start). Although I have to say, regarding that criticism, that communication comes a long way. As of right now I kinda equate ROTD with Megaman X Corrupted : fan projects with amazingly huge potential. But MMX Corrupted frequently shares updates, right now in the form of video, but at first the devs shared random-ass screenshots informing the fanbase of nothing but stating "hey guys, hard at work here!" and that was enough to appease the legion of dicks who were unhappy that the game takes so long. Also...

Yeah, inco, I'm gonna have to side with Ad on this one. WTF? You're seriously equating big money disasters to fan projects with zero backing? Shame on you...

I don't take issue with people having doubts about my progress, that's not what my post was about. The two main issues I touched on were:
- Those who are well aware of my age (as in, I was pretty much fresh out of elementary school seven years ago) choosing to completely ignore it when referring to the "seven-year development time".
- Comparing the speed of ROTD's progress to that of AFG's, again choosing to completely ignore the beyond-obvious difference in production quality.
The former is more understandable in general since not everyone would be aware of my age (even though it's public on my profile), but I've heard it from people who I know are aware. The latter is just irredeemably stupid.
Then there's that last comment incognito made which comes closest to what you're referring to, but takes an interesting twist - it's an almost mean-spirited accusation founded on a complete falsehood.

To put it in perspective, Black Mesa started production in 2004 and is still being worked on right now, with at its peak featuring a 40-member strong team, and even in its earliest state held a much large developer team than ROTD ever had. And Black Mesa is a remake, their work is mostly centered around translating an already existing product into modern standards, as opposed to something build completely from scratch.
To actually put out a legitimate game that functions and feels like something that could be company made, purely through fan efforts and without paychecks, that's a fucking enormous task to try and take on and I don't think anyone realistically imagined ROTD would even get to where it's at now. To make a fangame and really get it "right", it probably wouldn't be unrealistic to expect the game to still be in production a decade from now. Like just picture all the fucking names in a game's credit roll and trying to pull that off with a handful of still learning people -- and even those massive teams often take 2-5 years to piece things together.
Also hi ad pls come back to rpc and we can suck each others dick again sometime maybe

The original goal of my post was to bring enough heat to see if he would come back to answer, it worked.
MC Anon Brings the heat.
I am completely aware of the time it takes to perfect something huge, especially CryEngine, I'm in modding myself, but I gotta admit that I laughed really hard while writing about Daikatana and the AIDS.... You just got massively trolled, and like RayamanFan2000 said, leacing this place is fucknickn horrlblel.

Believe it or not, see if I care.
But what I said wasn't completely wrong, the game will still take a huge time to be developed, like four years or more.
And Ad makes the mistake of miscommunication, he doesn't keep the people following his work updated.

Not really, all you did was echo what a lot of others have said. If you didn't just perform the most embarrassing backpedal in existence and my response wasn't directed at you, it was directed at them.

Hey Ad thanks for coming back a little! Sad to see it's cry and tears here though.
Guys please behave yourself, we're not talking about the WW2, just video games entertainment.
Hope to see more more news of ROTD here Ad

By the way I didn't know you were that young. You have a bright future ahead. Given your age you make great work.

Hmm, on the topic of programming, I know Rayfist was learning some C++ before, how's he been getting on?

He'll have to answer that himself. However, I am hoping to show him around Unity sometime soon.

As for the 'cry and tears', the entire reason I started posting again was because of the dense quantities of stupid I saw hovering around, and I couldn't resist. Now that I've broken my streak (I managed to make it last for over a year, long after I stopped being pissed off), I can re-engage. Ironically, beginning said re-engagement by being really pissed off.

Been a long time since I've used it, I mainly did it for a class but I'd like to come back to it as a hobby.

I see, I've not done C++, it was originally part of our syllabus, but they ended up switching to C#. While I've got some OOP principles down, I still find myself struggling, I could do with some practice meself.
