No, that is not in any version of the game. I'm very interested in how you managed to play it!Tulio wrote:
wait a second, that sequence starting with ray respawning on a waterslope and dropping into fairygladesque environment
i distinctly remember playing that part but was never sure if it's a fake childhood memory or not since it's not present in pc version. was that level retained in any port of R2? i'd appreciate helping me solve this little mystery, if it's indeed dev build only then i'll explain how i managed to play it - not now though, it's like noon here so i'm hitting the bed
also hey all, it's been a while

A video with Michel Ancel playing Rayman 2! Gosh, I was hoping Tim Schafer would do this is the Devs Play series! So happy they did it
I've yet to watch it so I'll be doing that now and see if there's anything interesting in it!

Re: Rayman 2
Interesting, so Rayman 1 was going to be developed for the SNES CD, not the normal SNES. I guess that since it was never released they then started developing the game for the normal SNES.

Re: Rayman 2
I kind of get the feeling Michel doesn't understand a word the art director is saying
Otherwise the video is very cool so far, haven't finished watching yet. Most things I however recognize from before, though I didn't know about the SNES CD or that Rayman 2 was originally made for PC with the same textures used in the DC version. I always though N64 was the original one and then it was ported to PC.

I thought same, and I think the dev said same (or he said it indirectly?), but idk who to trust now, it seems more likely to be to N64 first as some pre releases images said it was 64 iircCarrot-master wrote:I kind of get the feeling Michel doesn't understand a word the art director is saying

Yeh it's kind of weird. I find it hard to believe it was originally made for PC, so N64 sounds more likely.GOT4N wrote:I thought same, and I think the dev said same (or he said it indirectly?), but idk who to trust now, it seems more likely to be to N64 first as some pre releases images said it was 64 iircCarrot-master wrote:I kind of get the feeling Michel doesn't understand a word the art director is saying

It's kind of funny how Tim has to explain to Michel how to beat the machinery boss to free Ly
Edit:
Michel confirmed Rayman was created by the Betilla like seen in the Origins trailer and he said that him having no limbs was kind of a mistake by Betilla or something like that.
Edit again: Finished watching it now and I really enjoyed it even though there wasn't a lot of new info in it

I watched the entire thing, and... I will never see that root tunnel the same way.Carrot-master wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6AgSHT8Ve0

Seriously though, I really liked that video. It was exciting to hear Michel talk about his My Neighbor Totoro influence for the ancient trees he put in all of his games since. The Grolgoth is also inspired by a Miyazaki movie (the robot in Castle in the Sky). I guess all these Miyazaki influences partly explain the atmosphere Rayman 2 has! Crazy how it started as a project by just 6 people, too. Crazy, and very cool.

Man, first we learn that Rayman 2 was a major influence on Psychonauts, and now we get one of the biggest in-depth looks at Rayman 2. I probably should take notes, there's stuff that could be good for the Wiki.

Re: Rayman 2
Tim Schafer in the start quickly mentioned 'Your special edition of Rayman 2' and Michel just stayed awkwardly quiet.
Either Tim is a dumbass or he accidentally leaked something... in which case he's still a dumbass tbh.

Re: Rayman 2
Why? Do you think they would first make a game, then rewrite it for PC and redo ALL the textures in 1K format to make them larger, so it wouldn't look crappy when played on PC in relation to N64? It's easier to make textures in high resolution first and then downscale. To do the reverse literally means you have to make the textures twice.Carrot-master wrote:Yeh it's kind of weird. I was just about to post this on the forums. I guess I'm late to the party
Watching the rest of the video now! Excited to see what Michel has to say...
EDIT:
Haha watching Ancel Schafer play The Woods of Light (his specific navigation trying to get back up a ledge, the way he tries to path towards the Baby Globoxes in mid-air) reminds me of how I used to play when I was 6.

I completely agree with this, I also got really happy when I learnt about the numerous bits that had an influence in Miyazaki's work, I do think this explains a lotSeriously though, I really liked that video. Though, I would like to note few details:
- (For few members) I think it is obvious that the N64 wasn't the one started first. How would you explain higher resolutions in a port for platforms like PC and DC?
- Never knew that R2 had an impact in Psychonauts development. Shame the game is unplayable for me to make me getting motion sickness every time I was playing it.
- The Robo-Pirates weren't just enslaving the creatures of the Glade for their own "welfare" lets say, but really to sell them as exotic pets in the end. I believe the intergalactic zoo thing still exists in the end.
Rayman 2 32 bit color depth fix
I just have found what to do, to fix 32 bit depth in Rayman 2.
Source: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/superlumberjac ... /739921747
1. Install nGlide
2. Copy GliVd1vf.dll from folder "Rayman 2\DLL" to folder "Rayman 2\DLL\Glide"
3. Set Glide in GXSetup.exe
4. Edit ubi.ini and replace x 16 to x32
5. Works!
Compatible with widescreen patch
To get nGlide work with Rayman 2,
proceed with instruction and adding missing files from my post, to fix GXSetup crashes:
viewtopic.php?p=981787#p981787
Impressions
Colors have more depth now. More underlined colors like yellow, red. Maybe even there is less neutrally now. But at least, there is less grey in colors. Even Rayman looks better now, richly. Color of water in Whale Bay, and underwater exploration finally reminds me more some old dev screens/renders. Pretty nice. And I think there is more shading now in certain places.

How is that possible? I thought Rayman 2's textures are in 16 bit...?deton24 wrote:I just have found what to do, to fix 32 bit depth in Rayman 2.

I'll try this anyway, it sounds interesting.
Re: Rayman 2
I tried it and the game won't even launch, it just complains about not finding some .dll
