I understand what you're saying now, and I apologise for being condescending at first. I only get annoyed when people don't answer questions directly or don't answer at all, because there's no reason not to.
sergiomonty wrote:The camera has the advantage of being fixed, a la Super Mario Galaxy, letting you be more fond on your perception and making platforming easier. HOWEVER... there are some open areas in which I wish I had full control of the camera, kinda like Super Mario 64. Controlling the camera in those areas is annoying.
I think the Super Mario 64 camera is an infinite amount more annoying in general being far too guided, but alright.
sergiomonty wrote:Sure. "Brief periods" doesn't stop it from happening. And they're also FREQUENT brief periods. Saving Ly from the pirates should be an epic quest, and it ends up being this kind of annoying boss battle where you must launch the barrel upwards because you must shoot at the easiest to beat bomb ever. It's booooriiiiing.
I understand what you mean, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the section, it only has flaws that detract. What I think what would have made the section perfectly fine is if you could carry the barrel the same speed as in Revolution.
sergiomonty wrote:Yeah, except that you can't jump, or move on a direct trajectory. It's always just up, then left, then up again, then left. It'd be nice if it was a little more interactive, I mean, Rayman 1 lets you punch piranhas while you're scaling the vines.
What do you mean "you can't jump"? Because you can, and you can move in whatever direction you want on the web. Or are you saying you want the climbing sections to be boring and even shorter by having the pathway only be a straight line? A side-effect of doing that would actually make it even harder to dodge, say, a spider on the web.
sergiomonty wrote:Oh, but it is true. If you don't grab on again (which is a normal thing to do if it's your first time playing) you will most likely fall and die. Why not just... take damage and that's it? why do you have the punishment of also having to grab the wall again?
Because that would remove the failure state imposed by climbing sections completely. Think of the falling barrels in the Fairy Glade or the spiders on the webs. They're short sections you need to go through without getting hit (or if you do, you can return to basically your previous position, you just need to react). It's not that hard, it's just a challenge of reflex and agility. If you didn't get knocked off the web, unless you had very low health, the sections are too short to do really any consequential damage.

Oh no, I don't mean it should be always like that, I said just, you know, for really open areas, like for example, the very first area you visit in the game. Super Mario Galaxy had something like that. (But I suppose that was... you know...

a limitation of the era...)

Never played Revolution. I don't get it, some people say it's better, others say it's worse than Rayman 2. Who should I believe? D:
anaphasiia wrote: What do you mean "you can't jump"?
No no, you get me wrong with this one. I mean it in a comparative way. You say grabbing to walls is pretty much like running, but in a vertical area. But you know, when you run, you're normally able to do more stuff.... use the attack button, jump.... and grabbing to a wall just has you moving around without any other possible interaction. Sure, you can press the jump button...... and die. But in order to progresss you must just, you know, move and wait, move and wait... It's like walking in a hallway without being allowed to press any other button for quite a long time. As I said, I really wanted to smash the teeth of those piranhas, but eh. I guess I had to wait for them. Oh, but the area you just mentioned with the barrels was actually really good, because you actually had to pay attention to the barrels, which came out quite fast, it was action packed, and it was short so it didn't get old.

For me that's fine. Those areas aren't worth repeating :P

Only way to tell is to play it yourself. I much prefer it to the other versions, but it is all really just a matter of your personal tastes. There is no "best version".

Personally I don't like it. The pirate battles break the pace of the game, the hubs feel empty, the framerate is low, loading times are slow, the dialogue can't be skipped and more. Though I loved the new bosses, music and upgrades. Though as Ribshark said, it's just a matter of personal taste.

The problem here is, you're listening to Brad, who's a useless piece of shit, whereas I'm Rulez, and you should listen to me because I'm Rulez.

Rulez rhymes with drools, while Brad rhymes with Rad. Therefore, any opinion except for mine are lame.

Yeah but Brad's just a fad and Rulez is a cool, cruel dude, not for fools. You're overruled by Mr. Rulez.

Stay away from the ps1 version! D: it was like playing a side game called "Rayman Hell"

"Rayman Hell" is a good description of the walking shell level in the ps1 version.

The Menhir Hills? I don't remember it being that difficult, definitely more weaving in the first section because of the walking shell chasing you, but other than that, it was fairly similar.

I must agree here that the PS1 versions shell is a nightmare controlling. Both in The Menhir Hills and most definitely in The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire! Overall I must say the PS1 versions controls a lot worse.

Well I was playing the PSN emulated version (PS3) and it has a slight input delay, which makes it a pain to control.
