I actually have the choice to either pay €13 including post for the yellow one with the box and manual or €19 including post for the white one with a box and manual and Rayman 2 with it. The second one does sound good because it's 6 euro for an extra game but I would much prefer to have the case also. I kind of think the yellow one does look better though.
Although technically anything is better than this lol
I doubt you're allowed post links but that's a picture of what I get if I buy the white one for about 20 instead of just under 14 for the yellow one. What would you do?
Them prices include p&p

Nice. Chances are I'm never going to play the great escape on PS1 anyway since that and N64 would be the worst versions. Clearly the PC, PS2 and Dreamcast versions are much better. As long as I don't get a platinum disc of Rayman 1 I don't really mind too much

I had a lot of fun playing the PS1 version of TGE, the problem is it's really shorter than the original version. Finished it in like 3:30mins...

I'm gonna just get the yellow Rayman 1 and get the great escape elsewhere with a case included. I'd prefer the case so the game is safe. Rayman 1 is the main one though I just need that set up on my CRT TV with no input delay and I'm sorted
Plus I have to play A lot of versions of TGE and Revolution now

Nice! Beats the crap out of a platinum disc
Is that the DOS version?

Yep. I bought it about a decade ago (so it wasn't my first copy).

I never seen it yet but heard there's mods for it and the main difference is that it runs in 16bit I think?
I'm actually wondering what happened the PS1 copy I had years ago. Long gone anyway but I was a very dumb kid when it came to taking care of my games so I assume it got destroyed or maybe stolen.
Rayman 1 is definitely by far the hardest game in the series. Seems to rely on perfect timing (I'm good at the old Mario games anyway) so I should be good at it playing it on real hardware with no input delay or vsync lag etc.

DOS version does of course run in 16-bit and it can't run on Windows NT because it uses MSCDEX to read the CD. That's why you need DOSBox for it. As I said, Snagglebee has put together a package that does all that and even makes the game play music from the PS version.

I'll have to have a look at it, why not. Mad how it was made so long ago that it actually can't run on NT.
The game is also 240p but for a game made in 1995 it actually does still look really nice. They done what they could with the resources they had at the time and I'd still say it holds up as a great game to this day.
I still think it looks so weird playing these pre 2004 games and it's "Ubi Soft" instead of "UBISOFT"

What a coincidence, me too! I lost so much good games when being a kid. Too bad, I don't even remember the title of a few ones.
Also, I used to play Rayman 3 on my Wii using a GameCube controller! The controller's cable wasn't long enough which was pretty annoying. Once, I was playing the 2 players GBA unlockable minigames with a friend and unintentionally pulled the controller's cable to me out of rage when losing. This made my Wii fall on my PS2 which broke it and also damaged my Rayman M copy that came from my 20th anniversary compilation. My father hearing all the noises this caused got into my bedroom and directly asked my friends to get back at his home when did he see what happened. I tried talking to him about the accident with the cable but this got him even more angry so he took me to the garage and beat the living shit out of me with a set of jumper cables.

I feel like by the end of the year, every thread is going to have someone that'll have their dad take them to the garage and beat the living shit out of them with a set of jumper cables.

I used to have an extension for the gamecube controllers because we had these cheap third party controllers where the cables were literally like 4ft long.

I've seen so much of it since joining the forum the other day

I set my PS3 up on my CRT TV and started a new game just to test this for you and it turns out I do get the same audio problem. It's actually very strange. It must be something to do with how the real Rayman disc gets read as an audio CD while tracks are playing and maybe the music gets streamed from the HDD and it just doesn't work properly over it. It should really load the music into the memory (RAM) instead. If it already does then it's just Sony being themselves and releasing glitchy software because they can get away with it.
Strange thing is it wasn't doing it on band land the other day. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention properly.
I know the real disc spins really slow and reads like an audio CD when you're playing a level, then when it's loading the next level it speeds up and reads data then starts playing a track again etc. So maybe they're trying to emulate a playing audio CD.
The thing I really don't get is why does it work properly on epsxe while an official version we had to pay for doesn't? Only Sony know the answer to that question.
EDIT: Now that I pay attention to it my game isn't even playing the music for the intro to the level or showing the rolling banner with a picture of Rayman on it like it's supposed to

I have been able to deal with this problem before, but it is getting to the point of being really annoying because I love the music. At least there is somewhat of a solution to this. Play the game on the PS2. The music tracks work perfectly, although the graphics don't look as crisp, especially on an HDTV.

Best idea by far but it's kind of annoying how it cost €5 and doesn't even work properly. I have component cables for the PS2 but the game is only 240p so it's never gonna look great on a HDTV. The smoothing option on PS3 makes it look a bit better but then again I'd rather the game work properly. My best bet is definitely to play it on the PS2 when it gets here and if you think the PS3 version has problems you should check out the VITA version. The US version on VITA might be fine, I'm not too sure but the European version is a mess. Doesn't even match the screens refresh rate. Funny thing is I bought it for VITA and it turns out to be playable on PS3.
I literally will have no problem playing it on the little portable CRT on PS2 if I have to as long as I know it works properly.

Really? Only 240p for the PS2 on an HDTV? I get 480i on mine with component cables. Not sure what causes the very low resolution for you.
I haven't been able to get the PS1 to work on my HDTV to play Rayman 1 and other PS1 games. I guess it's impossible for some reason, unless someone else has been able to make it work.

The Rayman game itself is 240p is what I meant and that's getting stretched out on a huge screen. I think I get 576i on my PS2 because it's PAL but some games let me do Progressive scan 480p. Rayman 3 is one of them games with progressive.
I think maybe the reason you can't get the PS1 to work is because it's outputting RGB instead of Ypbpr. You'll notice on PS2 you have an option in system configuration to switch between RGB and Ypbpr. That's what it's like on PAL but I'd imagine since you said 480i that you're NTSC. Not too sure if you'll have the exact same options on your ps2 in that case but if it is there and you set it to RGB you'll notice you won't get a picture anymore through your component cables unless you change it back. You have to use standard composite so you can see to change it back also.
Basically if that is the case then your PS1 is outputting RGB and you don't have the option on PS1 to change it to Ypbpr/component unfortunately. I wonder myself if there's actually a workaround for it.
EDIT: The best picture quality you can get from your PS1 is S VIDEO if you are NTSC. It's probably S Video instead of RGB for NTSC on PS2 also unless there are any NTSC TV sets that have scart on them.

So today I loaded up the game on my PS2, and put in the password where I finished Pink Plant Woods with three cages broken. To my surprise, the map medallion for Pink Plant Woods was empty; no three Electoon faces. It must be a rare glitch because I used to play Rayman 1 on the PS2 with the passwords for years until I got both a PS1 and PS3, and I never experienced that glitch until today.
