Yup, the EU PSN has the PAL version of the game

Aw, dangit. Eh, whatever, if I’ll find the game unplayable I’ll just turn to Mednafen.

Thank you for answering so quickly!

I can also confirm that I paid €5 for it on PSN and was very disappointed to receive the PAL version, especially when it was bought for a Vita which has a 60Hz screen. It makes it look like a complete mess, just like what they done with the PAL games on the PlayStation Classic.

I still don’t get why they sell retro PAL games, when people are more likely to know and to have played the NTSC versions of said games.

I really don't know myself. Ever since HDTV became a standard, everyone all over the world has been using 60Hz. All Sony have to do is give us the US versions of those games and then we'd all be happy. It really annoyed me to see Rayman running like that on Vita after me buying it and then had it run at a nice fluid 60fps on a Chinese Android box I bought using epsxe.

I can see why they sold the Pal version in Europe on the PS3. Pal games should not be in the U.S. release of the PlayStation Classic console preinstalled unless it is optimized for that region which they weren't optimized even for the hardware.
Why did they bring the Pal releases to the us.? It is just rushed.
Here is what I think happened, they had a list of games for Europe and another list for the United States, they ran low on time or they just wanted to rush it, so they just joined the games together so they wouldn't have to be bothered with picking good games the the PlayStation Classic since they would now have the 20 games gap met like in the Japanese release of the PlayStation Classic.

Well it makes far less sense to bring PAL games to the US, that's true, but the thing is that all of our TV's supported 60Hz with almost everyone using HDMI not too long after the PS3's release. It would have made far more sense to just give Europe the US versions of the PS1 games too.

Saying that though, the PAL PS3 is stupid and it can only output 50Hz through the AV port. Perhaps this was why Sony chose to use PAL PS1 titles, though I personally think it would have made more sense to allow 60Hz through the AV port as even the PS2 could do that.

Wait, so because it outputs 50Hz they had to slow down the game? I don't think they needed to slow down the games for it to work on the Pal versions.
I don't know if the N64 did this? I never heard of slower N64 games in pal, or pal at all really but I have heard in the past that ntsc was better but I didn't know the true reason.
Couldn't the games run at 6o fps through a 50Hz out put?

They could, but it would look laggy. Personally I would have preferred that as we could just use a HDMI cable instead and play them at 60Hz.

That's what I've been complaining about all along though, the games being slowed down to 50Hz all through the pre PS2 era (including some PS2 titles) for all the PAL users. It really is a giant middle finger to the lot of us that discovered this years later when we got internet.

I've finally reached 58% on Rayman. Holy crap did it take forever to get to this point. Just need two more and it's a D basically for me.

I completed it again the other day, so that's 2 save files with 100% completion. One more save to go which I'll get around to another time. :P

On the PC, I always keep one save file with 100% completion, including Mr. Dark's Dare, and one just before Mr. Dark's Dare, so I can always replay that level. :P

That's a good idea all right! If only something so elegant were possible with BG&E…

Well I guess I could just run FMCB and back up the current saves. That way I could have a save set that does the same thing. :P

I must actually play Rayman 1 and 2 on PC also. I've played a lot of versions of both, while never actually completing the PC versions.

Eh, I only play games on the PC. Even the console versions I play on the PC. Makes backing up saved games a tad easier. :D

I just love playing games on the real hardware, so I collected all of those consoles and still play them. :D

Would anyone recommend the GOG.com release? I read that there was some issues with it, but not sure if those have been fixed or what.

I’ve always wanted Rayman Designer, and I’d also like to play the PC version since I have R1 on ps1.

That's the version I have and it seems fine. Even if there were issues, there are a couple of mods by members to fix them. One of them adds the PS1 soundtrack to the game too.

I would strongly recommend the GOG version, coupled with Snagglebee's "Rayman Plus" mod that you can find in the Modding and Utilities section.

Rayman Plus is the one I was thinking of. I need to start waiting until I'm not half asleep and had my morning tea to reply to people.
