Well, I'm certainly curious to how it turns out. Meanwhile, the PS1 titles can be played.OCG wrote:Well during E3, they said that they will do "ground-up remasters" which is indeed a very confusing terminology. I think it will be remake in a sense because its confirmed it will be made from ground-up. But it could mean they do not plan to do any changes and just rebuild models and textures from scrap and still leave the rest of things same. Given the background that was displayed during announcement, I assume thats how it will look visually. Its impossible to remaster PS1 title same way like PS2 titles are remastered considering its much lower resolution and you cannot achieve nice HD look like PS2 HD Classics did. But I hope fan feedback encourages them to add new features too

Re: Crash Bandicoot
Indeed, though Sony can bite it for not allowing for PS1 discs to be played on the PS4, despite it being more than capable of emulating titles, as the PS3 did.
Re: Crash Bandicoot
Its all sadly done for marketing purposes and promotion for digital PS1 Classics

As if we should have to buy a game twice.
Re: Crash Bandicoot
That reminds me. There was once an app for PS Vita in Japan called UMD Passport which allowed Vita users to get digital copy of game for Vita they own on UMD already. Sadly, Sony finished supporting this app on 31st March this year. Just how Vita pretty much itself is dead.

I always liked the Vita, only thing I wished would be to have the same style joystick the PSP had.

I dunno, the PSP nub was decent, but it did get a little uncomfortable during longer hours of play.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
I do, it's gathered quite a bit of dust, not touched it in a while. A few years ago, before I had a smartphone whose mobile data was sufficient for me to use on trips, I'd emulate Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission while on long car journeys on it. It might not have beaten Ninty's DS, but man, when you had custom firmware on it, it was one versatile portable.
It's a pity Sony didn't learn from the PSP with the Vita, because it too sounds like a bundle of potential, sadly that's more or less burnt out at this stage.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
It's not a reboot. Though it certainly isn't a remaster either. I would definitely call it more of a 'remake' than anything else.OCG wrote:Why are people even saying R&C for PS4 is a remaster? Its a reboot of franchise. Remaster, remake and reboot are not same. Crash Bandicoot will be "remastered from ground-up" which is confusing terminology. It might mean that it will be exactly same like original games without anything new but that they will create new models for everything since its PS1 game and they can't just enhance old stuff like doing with PS2 HD Classics.
If you ACTUALLY fucking played the game it is a *retelling* of the entire story of R&C 1 from Captain Qwark's perspective/vision.

Eh, vague terminology be vague. I think at this point we're just going to have to wait and see what they mean. I just hope that it's worthwhile, it'd be nice to have this little spark kickstart a new era for Crash.

Maybe they did it so they can change things last minute, and say SORRRRRY.Master wrote:Eh, vague terminology be vague. I think at this point we're just going to have to wait and see what they mean. Re: Crash Bandicoot
Well, some work is going to be expected, I don't think a port job is what one would term a remastering.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
Hmm, which reminds me of Klonoa. It originally was on the PS1 (which I'd love to get a hold of a copy still), but moved onto the Wii. New graphics, voice acting, all the works. I wonder if something similar could be expected of Crash Bandicoot.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
Hmm, actually, I am a bit curious on the voice acting front. If memory serves, rumours were going around that Lex Lang (VA for Cortex since Twinsanity) was going to be voicing Cortex in a new Crash project. But if this is a remaster of the older titles, I'm wondering why it isn't Clancy Brown, since he voiced Cortex before Twinsanity.
Re: Crash Bandicoot
I'd rather have Lex Lang. He is the better Cortex.

Hmm, so you suspect voice acting to come then?

The originals had voice acting so...

Re: Crash Bandicoot
On the PS1? Hmm, I guess games did have it, but not as extensive as they do today. Which I guess I can't be too surprised, Perfect Dark on the N64 had voice acting and data storage was much more limited for it.

Re: Crash Bandicoot
While I do like his portrayal of Cortex in Twinsanity, I do feel he was somewhat flanderised come the Titans series. I feel Clancy Brown fits more when it comes to your straight villain (like how he played Lex Luthor in the old DCAU), given how Cortex was more of a straight villain back in the PS1 titles, I can't help but wonder if he'd fit more.Bradandez wrote:I'd rather have Lex Lang. Either ways, I do hope he does at least return to play Uka Uka, I don't think any of his replacement voices have really made any impact.
