It can always have the challenges inside named separately too so I guess there's no panic on that :P

Almost two weeks later, I finally got around to finding the book. And it's only one paragraph, on the left of page 57! It explains how Rayman 2 was supposed to establish Ubisoft on the new platform that was the PS2, which had only just come out in Europe and was reputed to be very difficult to program (which I guess was why they ended up using RenderWare). There was only a small team working on this important project, since it was only supposed to be a port. Florent Sacré was sent in to head up the graphics team (two people!) and was taken aback to discover that the game and level designers had gone and made their own of the whole thing, as if their job was to make the game all over again! He also said that the idea of doing a hub was really too ambitious for the engine they were using, especially with such a small team of fairly inexperienced developers, and so little time.

So yeah, it's amazing that it ended up being in any way good, never mind good enough to be considered a favourite version by so many people!

Does anyone notice that in Rayman 2... The Teensies, Grand Minimus and Murfy all have the same clothes?

Teensies, sure. They're all the same anyway, right? And Murfy… Yeah, I'm sure I noticed that as a child. I guess it's just the style of dress in the Glade.

Well I guess that makes a lot of sense now for some of those errors. Regardless of those, it still ended up being a pretty decent game.

That explains why it runs so badly and has all those glitches then. Still though it's a pretty good game and for a small team to do that is amazing :)

If there’s one thing I like about RR it’s the ability to change between different languages, I prefer both Raymanian and English. And honestly I would have preferred playing the PS1 version of R2 in Raymanian, the English voices imo sound....nvm.

Yeah I agree the voice acting isn't that good but at least you get a taste of what the 2D prototype is like :P

I wonder if we discovers more sprites of the 2D prototype in the game file of the PS1 version ?

I preferred Raymanian even in Revolution tbh. I got used to Rayman 3 but at first since I had played the UbiArt games first it just seemed so weird when they were speaking English. It seems normal now though.

If only they had the option to do Raymanian in the PS1 version.....
Ah but I see where you're coming from.

Hi! Who passed the Rayman 2 Forever on 100%?
I can't collect all lums on Stone and Fire :(
I would like to create a map with levels where all lums and cells will be marked

I'm pretty sure that Haruka Tavares has. ;)

I plan to work on this game myself and make a playthough video myself sometime.
Even though I don't actually have the game

I'll definitely be getting 100% too since I've just recently bought the game. I'm not expecting it to be too easy though either. Haruka's videos may come in handy if I get stuck :)

Last night I finally saw Rayman 2 to the end on my Dreamcast. I might post some more cohesive thoughts later, but a couple of things from the top of my head:

- Does any one else hate the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire? This was by far my least favourite level in the game. The progression is vague and repetitive, and I don't think the berry mechanics work very well in 3-D, which makes the whole thing really tedious.
- On the other hand, I really like the other two Sanctuaries. Probably some of my favourite maps in the game! It's a shame there's no fourth for the last mask.
- Speaking of, it kind of felt to me like they were running out of development time after Tomb of the Ancients. The maps afterwards felt a little half-baked, especially in the soundtrack department.
- Really glad I chose to do my playthrough on Dreamcast. This is definitely now one of my favourite releases of the game. It's a shame to see it struggling on the poll up there, but it does have Revolution to compete with ;)

Welcome back Electoon! :)

Yes I hate The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire too, it's really long and tedious just like you said. And about that part where you said there's no fourth mask, yeah I agree, but at least in Rayman Revolution there is a guardian in The Iron Mountains which is actually challenging. In the other versions of the game though, there's just no challenge which is also a shame.

Hi. Personally I don't mind The Sanctuary Of Stone And Fire though it does feel like an extremely long level. It does remind me of when I was only new here though as that was my first time playing it. I remember not being able to find the cage where you go down the lava stream on a plum then there's an opening in the wall where you climb spiderwebs then Master told me wherr to look :D

Maybe it's got some nostalgia to it for me already

The Dreamcast version is by far my favourite version of Rayman 2, it runs much better and has far less glitches than Revolution also. Everyone is different though.

Fair enough! I have two different discs of Rayman Revolution adn while I love what I've seen, the music frequently cuts out and game crashes commonly. I always assumed that I have two rather nackered discs, but the game does seem less stable, unfortuneately.

Yeah that happens a lot in Revolution and another thing is the helicopter sound looping. Another problem I've had twice is on The Sanctuary Of Stone And Fire, the game just completely froze up forcing me to hit reset and start over the entire level. I think it was the same place twice where you land on a small arrow shaped platform, then a plum sails over beside you. Halfway down that hill the game just froze up completely. I'm sure you'd be far more annoyed if that was to happen to you since you don't like the level :P

My disc is also in perfect condition and I'm using the PAL version if that makes any difference. Some people don't seem to notice any problems but for me I had a ridiculous amount of glitches. Even in one part of the same level (I cant think of which part off the top of my head) Rayman was supposed to run into a little passageway, but instead he ran into the pillar constantly in a cut scene again forcing me to hit reset as I couldn't control him

Welcome back Electoon!

I'm with Steo, I don't really mind The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire that much, it may be long but it's easy to get through once you get the hang of it ;)
That walking shell section though...yike.

Now that I've gotten a taste of what Revolution is like and what its good points and highlights are, as well as its many drawbacks, glitches, and slowdowns (supposedly for some of those), I do wonder how Revolution is favored by so many people. DC and PC versions are MUCH LESS FLAWED in my opinion, and yet still very enjoyable. I like Revolution though, it's just not my favorite among versions anymore. :)
