Alegro will cost some lifes if unlucky due to phase 3
If you practice a little, that level is a piece of cake (especially after you got all your powers). You should never die, instead getting 2-3 lives every trip. I seem to recall I specifically chose Allegro Presto for the best combination of tings per total level length versus difficulty.

I know, its just still very easy to mess up

Epsecialy on those small slippery platforms

Phase 3 is the only one that most likely would have that issue for most people, though for me I think it's only the first time you go through the level, as it gets much easier with the helicopter once you get it after finishing. I also suggest slowing down (which helped a lot for me) when you're going through the slippery platforms in phase 3, makes it less likely for you to fly off and plummet to nothingness.

Sounds about right. I don't remember the details now, just the feeling that it really wasn't all such a difficult level except during the first playthrough, without the powers.

Yeah, practice is how you make perfect. When you think about that and do so, the game ends up not being as hard.
StelzenBomber wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2020 9:56 am The only thing i would call straight up unfair is the space mama boss
The only thing I find difficult (if even) about the fight now is when she hides behind her washing machine and starts firing repeated lasers. Her initial attack with the pots always has a set pattern, so you really just have to remember that and where to run to for safe ground. You also have to keep on the move (preferably closer to the middle) when she jumps off the screen since iirc she has a habit of reappearing on top of you before shooting (after some hits).

It's very easy to mess up on the slippery platforms when you have input lag (like playing it on PS3 for example), but once you learn the pattern of crossing them, it's not that hard anymore really.

Ps3 has input lag?

Hardest part to me is the moving pencils where you have to time your slide correctly to pass them in picture city.
Annoying and it also different between some versions of the game.

For that part the trick is to slide down without pressing jump. If so you will always go through them all perfectly.

Well I played the dsiware version (maybe its in GBA too?) not long ago and it didnt work so i had to come up with a way to pass it.
You can see this here : https://youtu.be/3PyP6smxqic?t=1499
Also the sharpener that appears afterwards is bugged.

Ah yeah, they messed up that entire map on DSi. Not sure what went wrong. The y-axis is offset by a lot for a bunch of objects, so some objects are even below the map :p

Also that sharpener bug i mentioned reminds me how objects in the Jaguar version often "pop-in" when you come close to them (mostly seen in music and cake worlds).

Interesting, I didn't know that. The Jaguar version works kinda weirdly when placing objects (it uses another engine). They're all placed on a grid, with offsets from there for the specific x and y location. I assume they get activated when the grid cell is in view, rather than the final position, which would explain the pop-in.

I always lose some lifes on the rng pencils on phase 1 of the first picture city level

Did they really have to be random game?

I just tried replaying Allegro Presto and Space Mama's Crater. It's been a few years since I played those, I think.

Allegro Presto reruns (with all the powers) took me about 3 tries to figure out, after which I could consistently beat it without dying. Level 3 is indeed the tricky one, but helicopter helps a lot here. I bet I could make it even easier (skipping a lot of the traps) with running, but didn't need it.

Space Mama's Crater took me 20 lives to beat. I must confess I was quite careless, and with practice I could probably do it without losing more than 5. The trick with the washing machine (on the PC version at least) is to jump over when she fires low, punch the machine. She always fires low (and not high) immediately after that, so jump again, and repeat. After learning all her patterns, it is perfectly possible to avoid even a single hit from her. You need to get a bit lucky and not miss any shots in her initial attack, when she approaches you.

I think its different on ps1

By a tiny bit

And on PAL its slower, which doesnt help sadly

Yeah you have to be quick on her initial attacks otherwise you will just get cornered in at the edge of the screen. The patterns of jump, punch, and duck are actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it, and it makes me wonder why people say Space Mama is a difficult battle.

Even the Mr. Dark fight is pretty easy once you know the patterns. I used to think the transformation with Space Mama was tough too, but you literally just jump at the right time (the lasers miss you), then punch and duck, same as with the washing machine part on Space Mama basically.

Mr dark isnt hard really

Space mama is a lot unfair
And her hitbox to hit her is stupidly small for some reason

Plus you can only mess up 5 times
3 if you died before

Yeah you have to hit her in the head and sometimes it's hard to hit the right area. It's a harder battle than Mr. Dark in fairness, but after you get used to the patterns it does get a little easier.
