I played the game through Dolphin a while back. It's definitely the definitive way of playing the game and even better than the Wii U remake.
If only Nintendo released their games on PC.

It really does look amazing, even the cel shading looks better

So about 1 month ago I got a ps4 and am loving it, and so I thought I'd share my thoughts on the games I've been playing on my spare time between long shifts, memematic elections, and hours of crippling depression and gender dysphoria :v :

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

So holy shit, this has to both my favorite game in the franchise as well as my favorite shooter, like, ever. The characters and environments look almost tangible, I mean it's honestly fucking insane how realistic everything is. There was seriously times when I'd just stop playing the game to marvel at how amazing a mountain, building, or character would look (The epilogue with Nathan and Elena's daughter Cassie being a truly amazing surprise!). I love how seamless this game made the gameplay and cutscenes too; it truly felt like a cinematic experience that you were in control of, making the steaks feel much more personal than they've ever been before.

The gameplay itself is pretty rock solid. One thing that irked me in the previous games was how much combat Drake did, which is a very ironic statement given that it's a video game. In this game thankfully (to me at least), the combat feels a bit reduced with stealth tactics being an option for those like me who aren't the best at shooters. There's also a looot more platforming in this game, which eventually gets to be a bit tedious toward the later chapters of the game. If it's any consolation though, the locals are as vibrant and varied as ever.

The stories really good too, I won't say too much in regards to spoilers, but I think this game shows us Nates character best, we see him laughing, regretting, feeling proud, smug, and betrayed. By a certain point of the game I wasn't sure if I liked or disliked Nate anymore, because I was as mad at him as he was himself, and I think that's a powerful thing, that we can feel and learn very real and human things through fictional people. Of course in true adventure genre style Nate and the other protagonists find ways to redeem themselves and we get a nice heartwarming ending. I couldn't recommend this game enough, although perhaps go buy the Uncharted collection if you haven't played the previous games, I think it will enhance the experience.

DOOM

Another shooter on the list. Now I actually wasn't planning on ever playing this game to be honest, but the brief playthrough the Game Grumps did won me over enough to borrow a friends copy to try out the campaign mode. And I find it to be good mindlessly violent fun! I tend to die fairly often (I said I was bad at shooters, lol), but the over the top nature of the game makes death feel like nothing here, you just sigh and go back to enjoying beating the Hell out of things (get it?)! I'm not too far in the game, only chapter 3, and I can't say I care much to listen to the narrative that feels kinda shoe horned in to make it feel more realistic, and the game is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I think it's worth borrowing or renting for a fun little romp through hell.

Assassin's Creed: Unity

Now I want to start off by saying I really like this game. Still with me? Cool. Now because I know a lot of people associate this game with its less than stellar release date (This game was $8 at Game Stop, that's far cheaper than most of the other games in the franchise), and it's notoriously buggy nature, but let me say that as of the last patch put out, I don't find the glitches to be particularly intrusive to the experience of the game (although I had a rather hilarious moment where Arno was spazing on the wedge of a tall building I was climbing. )

I'm not too far into the campaign of this game either, but I mapped the entire game since it's placed in only 2 locales, Paris and Versailles. The graphics are... Okay? I mean they're really good,, don't get me wrong, but I think the aesthetic and atmosphere of the games up to AC4: Black Flag were always pushing the bar, feeling sharp and whimsical at the same time, this game feels a bit more unpolished and sterile in this regard, as it feels almost soulless during the cut-scenes and "animus" related stuff. I don't really like the more meta-immersive route this game has, as it's us the player in a "virtual reality" (which makes me feel weirdly naked holding a PS4 controller staring at an obvious screen, and no it's not cause I'm actually naked) controlling the assassin, instead of someone like Desmond Miles which, to me anyways was far more interesting.

The world and gameplay itself are still very good though. I think the parkour and climbing is still as fun as it was in AC2 and the combat is much more newcomer friendly than AC1 and 2, so I think this has been my favorite way to fight in the series.

TL;DR Play Uncharted 4, it's a masterpeice, DOOM is mindless fun, and AC: Unity while unpolished still offers something in my opinion, worth playing. :v

I loved this title so much, it made me so happy that they didn't ruin it by following conventions that do nothing to improve the game (reloading, for example). I thought the story was done well, it's not really very complex beyond goodie wakes you up to beat hell-obsessed baddie and if you want to know more you can read the backstory that you unlock throughout the game.

I tried out Elder Scrolls Online as part of the free weekend, and I really liked it. I was very tempted to get it then and there, but I know if I do that, I won't focus on getting my work done. I'll probably try to get it during the Winter Sales.

Since I acquired a PS4, I also acquired Axiom Verge. It's fun, but by god is this game a mess. It's Metroid with 10000000% more unnecessary details, and it get confusing real fast. Gameplay is solid, soundtrack is compelling and the story is intriguing, but I'm not sure I can go through to the end. I just get lost all the fucking time because of details hidden behind seven layers of details.

I do like all these Metroidvanias, but I don't think I've seen any titles taking inspiration from the Prime series. I guess it's probably due to 3d not being as popular amongst Indies, either ways I'd really like to play more games with the Prime design.

I just completed Suikoden II.

It's now one my favourite games ever, on the same level as the likes of FFIX and Chrono Trigger.

Everyone into RPGs and good stories should play this game, though you also need some patience because it's best to play the first game as well (to feel more connected to some of the main characters, and to carry over save data to unlock the best sidequest in the second game), and though it is rather short for an RPG (20 hours or so) and still very, very good, it's definitely less impactful than the second game... which managed to be so impactful that it made me cry like a little kid during some scenes in the game and during the whole ending.
It's just... the world, the characters and their motivations are so well-established, so much love has been put into the sprite work and animations, and the music is so good and used so well as to make any emotional moments hit so hard that it's difficult not to love this. So yeah, play it!
(Just don't forget to use missable guides for each game since a few little things can cause a completely different/bad ending.)
By the way, a bit late perhaps but thanks a lot for this post! I'll probably start with Persona 5 since it's looking pretty good and it will be the most accessible game for me by the time I need new games to play. With FFXV coming out in a few days, my backlog being huge and like 10 interesting new RPGs coming out in January-March, I don't see that happening before summer, and I guess P5 will be a bit cheaper by then. :)

No problem! I've been wanting to try Suikoden II myself, do you actually own it, or did you just emulate?

As for Persona 5, it got delayed recently until April so you'll have a LOT of time. The delay sucks, but we are getting free dual audio DLC, so that's really good. (Hopefully Atlus releases a free demo)

Yeah man, music collides so well with story driven games/movies, it goes together like peanut butter and jelly. A lot of moments in Persona 3 seriously nearly made me tear up, and that only elevated when the music started playing. Strange how it works like that. Persona 4 (for me at least) didn't have nearly as many emotional moments, but it still definitely had its fair share.

Oh and Final Fantasy XV, I've been incredibly on the fence of whether I should get that for Christmas or not.

I emulated it (on my PSP) - It's actually better that way since the original US release has some stupid bugs like music not playing at some points where it's supposed to (sadly even in two of the ending scenes), and while the PAL release fixed some of them, I really can't stand 50Hz anymore. :P When emulating, you can just patch the US version to fix everything, even some bugs present in every version of the game.

Glad to hear Persona 3 has a lot of those moments, since that's probably the one I'll be playing after 5! My PS2 is dying and I don't have a Vita so I won't be able to play P4, but since P3 is also on PSP I'll be able to play that version. :)

I'd say wait for reviews - I've been reading some first impressions but they seem to be so divisive that it's impossible to see if it's a good(/great?) game or just meh. From what I've heard, the story is a bit of a mess but it has its moments and the gameplay is apparently good. But I know for sure that I like the landscape, dungeon and monster designs a lot so I think I'll at least enjoy my time with it. :)

I actually wanted to buy Suikoden II as a collector, but damn, that price.

Well there's still many ways to play Persona 4, you could emulate, or buy it off ps3 store, or buy a really cheap Playstation TV, and enjoy the Vita version on the big screen. The psp port of Persona 3 is VERY interesting, as you can imagine, due to limitations you aren't able to explore around town or anything, you're stuck to a "point and click" type thing, but you also get a LOT of improvements from the PS2. A huge critique for Persona 3 on PS2 was the rest of your party being AI controlled, and that could be the death of you very often, it was incredibly annoying, in the PSP version this is fixed. Also, you get a female protag with some additional social links.

I will definitely wait for the reviews. Although I recently bought Type 0 JUST TO PLAY the Episode Duscae Demo.

Haha, wow, I just checked the prices and it's pretty bad indeed. Yeah, it's definitely better to emulate the patched version and to do the same for the first game since you can't import save data otherwise (unless you can transfer your PS1 save data to PC).

I might still try to fix my PS2 or get a PS3, especially since I also badly want to play Suikoden III now and stuff like Dragon Quest VIII, Xenosaga and the PS2 Tales games. So there's hope for Persona 4 yet!

As for Type-0... it's probably the worst FF I ever played and Episode Duscae isn't representative of the final game at all, but don't worry, I made exactly the same mistake for the same reason :P

Positive news but it seems FFXV is getting some really good reviews from many gamers, I'm hearing while the story is short (30 hours), the game has a huge amount of post-content.

But yeah, the game is a pretty solid co-op experience especially.
It's a decent game, though nowhere as good as the first Revelations to me. The main problem lies in the atmosphere, you just spend the whole game on a creepy island which gets pretty boring after a couple hours of seeing the exact same things. Enemies aren't bad, but not particularly stylish or inventive either. The storyline is pretty nonsensical but the recent Resident Evil games already got us used to that. Despite playing it a couple months ago, I've already forgotten quite a few things, so it hasn't made a lasting impression on me.

Anyway, just finished The Last Of Us, and it was absolutely great. I knew it already, but other than collision issues, I couldn't find anything to complain about.

Can't wait to play this one, though I might wait a bit. Still considering getting a 4K TV now I've got a PS4 Pro.

Don't imply retardation without making any points, ronald retardo. Broken dumbed down battle system, world map and levels in favour of a connected world, lackluster plot, no partners, required "things" that aren't clever at all, every character is toad, decent but gimmicky presentation. They're both bad games for the same reason and everyone who disagrees needs to get 8 million 9/11 planes flown right into their stupid face!

It seems charming but there is no reason to actually play it. So I'll just watch it being played instead. I'll invest my time but not my money.
