Sonic: Before the Sequel
Sonic: After the Sequel
Sonic Time Attacked
Sonic GDK
Sonic Robo Blast 2
...and many more (including ROM hacks) would all like a word with you.

I remember playing Sonic Before and After the Sequel. Sonic Robo Blast 2 was too much of a mess for me to like. But the Before and After the sequel were mind-blowingly awesome games. And that NiGHTS DLC boss makes for a much better final boss than Eggman, I should receive the NiGHTS DLC with my copy.

Sonic Unleashed (Next Gen), Sonic and the Secret Rings, and Sonic and the Black Knight all had really climatic final bosses.

I'm on Lava Mountain 3 now. I had to wrap up a college assignment before I could play at all today.
...And I'm going to admit that there are one or two bullshit stages in Sky World and Lava Mountain.
Also, the fights with Zavok (except the first one, which is my favourite boss in the game so far) are SO confusing. Like, the second one literally took me ages to figure out what to do (mainly because I thought I had done said thing once, but I guess I missed, and assumed I wasn't supposed to do that thing). And I am actually stuck on my third fight with him. I'm stumped as to what I'm supposed to do.
But yeah, there were one or two gimmicky levels I really didn't like, and some odd design decisions.
I'm not going to say this game is terrible because of it. I still love this game, and I might like some of these levels more over time (it could be that I'm kinda tired, admittedly), but it's just really jarring seeing some really good levels, only to find the odd questionable one, and you ask how they managed to make such a decision.
There are a lot less "gimmick stages" than what people on Sonic Retro and such are letting on, though. You use the regular gameplay style in most levels.

Apologies for the bump, but I just wanted to let you guys know I have beaten the final boss of Lost World on Wii U. And I've still been playing the game (and will continue doing so for a while to come), so if you guys have any questions, I can probably give very specific answers at this point.
I also did another impressions post on another site, but it is full of spoilers regarding game content/unlockables (no story spoilers, yet), as well as my thoughts on the final boss and the NiGHTS level. This forum has no spoiler tag to my knowledge, and the other forum does, so I'll link to the page, but view the post only if you don't mind a few spoilers and such. The post in question is post #385, and as of the time of me typing right now, it's the latest post in the topic. I've the same username on the other site, too.

There is actually spoiler tag here as well but I can't remember it.

Hey guys, I just discovered some interesting fact. Sonic Shuffle seems to be only Sonic game that has no Multi Language. It does not have dual audio as well at all. Japanese version has Japanese text and voices only and English version has English voices and text. Well that game was released after first SA which had multi language so I think that back then, they were not sure to keep it or not. In SA2, they made their mind to make all versions of games identical to save development time probably.

Definitely worth the money I spent. I got it for a cheap price (roughly €42, including shipping) from ShopTo, with pre-order bonuses and all, but I honestly would still have been satisfied if I paid the regular €59.99 that most new Wii U games in my local GameStop are priced at, and if it didn't come with the pre-order bonuses.

Also, I never really mentioned anything about the Lost World's story and writing.
In terms of the story/plot, it's not that deep, but in terms of writing, and character interactions, it's actually got quite a bit of depth. And if you like Sonic, Tails, or Eggman, you're in for some fanservice, as they not only do some very funny things with their relationships, but also deeper and more poignant things. The writing just has a lot of emotional drive. I suppose that'd be the best way to put it. There's even a bit of character development for the 3 of them (heck, EVEN Orbot has some character development).
Also, Sonic's comic timing in this game is literally perfect. The characters in general all have amazing use of body language.
And Tails is such a sarcastic and witty bastard at times, and I love him for it. But he still has a childlike innocence, which is highlighted in some key scenes. Not to mention that he was one huge Crowning Moment of Awesome near the end.
And Eggman is Eggman, with even more excellent lines, and yet another flawless performance from Mike Pollock. In fact, I think Roger Craig Smith and Kate Higgins also had flawless performances. Remember how I said not too long ago that I wasn't sure if Roger could provide a good performance for Sonic if the tone of a scene was more serious? Well, he completely erased my worries there in a bunch of scenes. He really just has perfect delivery here, whether it's a funny scene or a serious scene.
As for the Deadly Six, as individuals, they are not too interesting, but I do love Zazz (the pink maniac), Zor (the emo guy), and Zeena (the girl). Zavok (the muscular red guy) is also growing on me, and his voice is deliciously evil.
As a collective group though, they are awesome, and I'd love to see them again. There was some potential for backstory with them, but we don't get much. That's the only real flaw I have with the story here - because of the short run time of all of the cutscenes combined (30 minutes), the writers were limited. They were clearly trying to do more with certain character developments and the backstory of the Deadly Six, but it seems like they were cut short by the run time. It's nowhere near as bad as Colours and Generations, as they do get some very satisfying and thought provoking scenes in, as well as the expected comedy, but I can't help but feel there is still a LITTLE something missing. I don't blame the writers for this though, more the way the levels are structured.

Iizuka said that if fans like the Deadly Six, they could possibly return, which I wouldn't mind. Also, is there an explanation on why the Wisp are on Lost Hex?

Ah, no, there isn't. They are literally just a game mechanic.
Honestly, I don't think we need one. They could of easily flown there from Planet Wisp.
