Re: Rayman 1
I think Ubisoft made this assumption when they released Rayman 2 in Japan, also because it is the only game where he's blue

Re: Rayman 1
Is there any other examples of them redesigning other franchise characters to blue?

Re: Rayman 1
Not sure about it, but it's also curious to see Ly had a unique design in Japan too... But not because of the purple parts of her outfit or her hair

Re: Rayman 1
Sorry for double posting, but I wanted to say I’m offended that the browser demo is not included on the poll

Re: Rayman 1
The poll was probably made before that browser demo was!

Re: Rayman 1
Nah, the poll was made earliest 2009, and the browser demo looks well older than that

Re: Rayman 1
I'm working on ripping all the enemy tiles in the Rayman 1 GBC game (since Rayman Sprite Rips in general are seemingly impossible to find, PS1 or otherwise).
I'm noticing the Trumpets in Airy Tunes have this strange frame (Blue in my image) that I can't quite place where they belong.
I'm assuming its a hurt frame for the trumpets perhaps? I can't think of any in the game that you can actually punch.

Re: Rayman 1
A lot of times I basically had or screenshot sprites myself when it comes to the 2D games. It quickly becomes tedious though.
As for the comments above about the web version, it's probably because nobody in their right mind would vote for that version unless they were trolling / taking the piss, so having it on the poll would just mean having to reset it for the sole reason of adding an extra option that would forever remain on zero.

No, it is associated with royalty and nobility, according to pretty much every single source on the subject. However, like Itzal said, Ubisoft might have made this assumption. I'm just not sure why.Greengoop wrote: Fri Sep 22, 2023 9:23 pm Nah, In Japan purple is associated with evil, so they changed it , but not spyro![]()
There is one trumpet in the game that Rayman Saturn was able to reach, and Rayman's fist went right through it, so if this sprite is for a "hurt" frame, then the animation in question must be disabled. More details here.metalflygon08 wrote: Sun Dec 17, 2023 7:17 pm I'm assuming its a hurt frame for the trumpets perhaps? I can't think of any in the game that you can actually punch.

Re: Rayman 1
Silly Ubisoft
but that’s interesting to know. Apparently every raytuber also believes it
Re: Rayman 1
Interesting! I just checked and the trumpets have two unused animations. Second one seems to be the hurt one. They're not attached to any states in the game, so no way to trigger them.Hunchman801 wrote: Sun Dec 24, 2023 2:31 pmThere is one trumpet in the game that Rayman Saturn was able to reach, and Rayman's fist went right through it, so if this sprite is for a "hurt" frame, then the animation in question must be disabled. Re: Rayman 1
Thanks Carrot, another mystery solved! Maybe they intended for us to be able to defeat them at some point, but eventually changed their minds. Like Saturn pointed out on multiple occasions, this game appears to have changed a lot during the course of its development.

Re: Rayman 1
The first one appears like it would have been for the Sucking Trumpet, which is funny since IIRC the sucking trumpets in the actual game uses the regular blow animation.

Re: Rayman 1
It's interesting that it's associated with royalty and nobility in Japan, since it also traditionally was here in Europe… Is there a connection or is it a coincidence?Hunchman801 wrote: Sun Dec 24, 2023 2:31 pm No, it is associated with royalty and nobility, according to pretty much every single source on the subject. Re: Rayman 1
Perhaps it might have something to do with the name in combination with the color? Considering he is known as Reiman over there, and rei means spirit/ghost... and while purple/death doesn't seem right, I do believe that the purple/ghost connection exists - heck, Pokémon's ghost type is represented with purple, isn't it? And the pokémon themselves are often purple as well. I'm fairly certain I've seen purple used for ghosts in other Japanese media as well, but I don't know where exactly it comes from either.Hunchman801 wrote: Sun Dec 24, 2023 2:31 pmNo, it is associated with royalty and nobility, according to pretty much every single source on the subject. Re: Rayman 1
I wondered before if the connection with purple only meant something weird on males due to this.DaveRattlehead wrote: Sat Sep 23, 2023 2:29 pm Not sure about it, but it's also curious to see Ly had a unique design in Japan too...
