Interesting! I don't think they are used anywhere - but for some reason they are present in the "fix" (always loaded) textures in the Dreamcast version (but not in the 3DS port). Looks like at some point they were supposed to appear in a lot of levels.

I wonder if they were originally intending Electoons to come out of the cages, and that's why they are loaded in every level.

A lot of the early promotional images and materials seem to suggest they were originally going to make something a little closer to the first game. It would definitely be interesting to see the universe where we got tha version....I know my seven year old self would have appeciated it more!

I didn't really give Revolution much credit on my first playthrough, but I'm actually enjoying it a lot playing it again. It's nice how it has challenges for increasing the health bar, and how you can buy upgrades for Rayman. I always said the Dreamcast version is my favourite, and fixated so much that it's 60fps. I'm not sure if I'll change my vote but Revolution has a lot going for it which I think is pretty cool.

I'm going to 100% this playthrough, but I'm actually having fun with it unlike back when I was new here complaining about it.

During my Revolution playthrough, I personally thought (and still do) that it was the definitive version of R2 because of the hub worlds making the game open-world instead of linear, and with all the bonus content and features such as the challenges that landed you more health (challenge-reward factor), and not to mention the added bosses.

About the framerate, yeah it did lag sometimes but not so much and not a lot of the time so it wasn't distracting me.

Not sure how I managed to get 20 deaths though, maybe it was The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire and The Prison Ship.

All in all, this is not to say I didn't like the other versions though, they were also really good and I enjoyed playing them also, especially the PC version.

I like how each version has its differences too. Revolution though, it's definitely a much better game than I thought at one stage. When I first joined RPC, I remember my first post was actually talking about how good the Dreamcast version runs in comparison, instead of paying attention to the additional content. I didn't like the hub world at first and found it somewhat confusing, but it turns out you can just press select and be told where to go if you hadn't been paying attention to the Teensies.

I always played the "classic" version (N64, PC) of Rayman 2, but Revolution is getting my interest for its exclusive content.
What I like of the PS1 (never played, but saw gameplays and cutscenes) is that there's also some "exclusive" content, like few extra scenes and Ninjaws' boss at the end of the Sanctuary of Fire and Stone, despite being the version with most cut content of all.

Funny, I was the opposite. All the extra content makes Revolution the most complete, 'definitive' edition in my mind. However, later I realized that the loading times and the annoying save prompt between every two segments make it less fun for me to actually replay.

Also, once you beat a level, a spiral door activates that can take you straight to it, without having to wander around the hub world.

Fun fact Revolution was the first PS2 game to use the RenderWare engine which became extremely popular later on.
But its basically an "engine inside engine" thing because it also used Openspace underneath it lol.

No wonder why such great games like GTA San Andreas used Renderware. It seems like a good engine for the time.

The load times aren’t that bad, I’ve seen worse.

Let's not forget that this was also the version to include the 2D Prototype as a secret after you collected all the Lums. ;)

But yeah, shame that the PS1 version was the one with the most content cut out of the game, with even entire levels completely missing from the final game.

To be honest, PS1 version is my 2nd most favourite. I think Ubi Shangai nailed it when it comes to system limitations of PS1

Yeah I mean they really couldn't do anything about all the missing content, they had to cut that stuff out due to the hardware limitations like you said.

Though I did enjoy it nevertheless also, almost as much as the other versions, and the fight with Razorbeard had a lot more action and was generally more challenging than the fight in all the other versions, it would've been amazing to see them implement that in the other versions instead of what they did, but I'm somewhat satisfied with what we ended up getting also.

Again don't know why people cite the PS1 hardware limitations for their decision to cut content.
The PS1 could do big and semi open levels just look at soul revear and spyro.

Same here, though it's mostly because of how they messed up with the levels.

I know the graphics are worse on PS1, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game at all. Personally, I think the N64 version is the worst one, unless it comes to ports, where Rayman DS takes the cake.

As someone who played Rayman 2 as a DS port and got used to it initially, upon getting the pc version and noticing the HUGE graphical differences I couldn't agree more with this statement.
