@ Jona: I can understand. It's tough to get so many points in one level, especially when the Lums glitch doesn't even work. I can't think of anything to solve the CA combo, but with the balloon combo, maybe you could use mostwanted's trick WITHOUT hitting the Monger? I'm pretty sure it would be possible, and you could reach all of the gems on each balloon so long as you don't helicopter after the top one (to get to the remaining one on the box naturally). That way it wouldn't lose you any points at all (apart from the one Black Lum mentioned in the solution).
I hate to say this but you're going to be the next victim to experience the unbearable but unstoppable feeling of Xenon overtaking
In fact, I could be overtaking three people if I get 112000, but I doubt my score will reach this number. Instinct tells me I'll only get 110000.
@ MandM: I also understand. I guess there isn't much to do anymore but search levels. Mind you, I remember we discussed the possibility of there being a new maximum score for TTOTL, what are your feelings for this?
And I'm now scared that your score was so close.

My score may have been closer to 99.900 than to 99.999. The thing is, it's impossible to predict how many kickflips you can do. It can vary +/- 3 flips or so from one attempt to the next.
I'm investigating BOM part 6 at the moment. I take things easy and play when I have the mood for it. As for TOTL, I still need to find more points to be able to raise the bar there. It's not really a motivating factor that we only will be able to increase the score with a few hundred points should we be able to find those missing points in parts 1 and 2. The biggest combo in part 3 is only 5.000+ points, so it's not encouraging. However, should you get too close to my total score, I will have to reconsider.
How's part 3 going? Are you able to land on 97.000+ points before the big combo often enough? Have you hit the edge yet?

Haha, at the moment it only feels like a waste of time for me to play R3 any more. Since the score is far too hard to improve now, the feeling of accomplishment is diminished by the amount of frustration that went beforehand. Plus, I probably won't even have many feelings of accomplishment even if I get a decent score in SBTC, because it depends on luck anyway, and I'm NOT going to play the damn level for months to be able to get a lucky touch once. I had fun with the game in the past devising new combos, tricks, and ideas to reach good scores, but trying for ages to get something right once isn't fun at all to me anymore. And most likely there's nothing new to be discovered anymore, so the fun is pretty much gone for me now. I'll follow the topic, but I doubt I'll be playing R3 anytime soon.

If there is a hidden Matuvu in the Secret room between the 2 statues we could combo the 3 green gems.... i think thats not going to happen but it would be cool

Of which Secret Room are you talking about?

Almost got it there! Managed to trigger the launching glitch (a small one but a launching glitch nonetheless) but I missed the green gem. Disaster. I calculated that I would have got 110500 so it's pretty strong cheese eh?
@ MandM: Well, I think you'll always have a more respectable score in TLS because I can't STAND the scoring in the first part, despite it being one of my favourite parts in the entire game! And the music is strangely awesome.
@ Jona: I do really understand your reasoning, and especially so when you're playing SBTC. While R3 is my favourite game, it's also my least favourite game because as you said, the drudgery of the hard combos doesn't really compensate the amazing feelings. It has two opposite ends.

I have similar sentiments towards Rayman 3 these days, just that it wasn't SBTC for me but TBOM that spoiled my interest in the game. I needed two lucky punches there, the first one to get both major combos in part 3 right in one attempt and the second one to manage the Razoff glitch and I just don't have the patience for any of these. I will play again one day, that's for sure, maybe even in the near past but then it will be mostly for fun in a level like CF, TLOTLD or TOTL which I have the maximum scores in but which include interesting combos to play. The only level I can see myself playing seriously in the next few months is TFC.

Expect a lot of these small disasters

But then again, you may be lucky to get it right in the next attempt.

I wouldn't say that. I have a few things up my sleeve yet.
The game will test your creativity, inventiveness and persistence. SBTC is all about persistence, well, part 3 at least. It is mindnumbingly boring to repeat part 3 over and over to make that final combo work. If you want to test your creativity and inventiveness I suggest you try out FC. Granted, the Matuvus in part 3 (or 2?) aren't for the faint hearted, but it can be made to work. The rest is quite fun.

I'm now beginning to wonder how long this will actually take. So far I haven't even made a proper launching glitch, only one miniature one. And it will cost me at least 20 proper glitches before I combo the green gem...
Things are beginning to look foggy.

Need I remind you it took me four(!) months to get a decent combo there? Obviously I took a week off playing R3 once in a while, but nevertheless. In the end I almost convinced myself, that when I got the edge right, the jumps would be shorter so the green gem would be out of reach. Getting this combo right is the equivalent of winning the grand prize in the lottery for two consecutive weeks.

I think you're right.
The scary thing is, I've landed on the edge several times, but Rayman usually just scrapes the edge and continues falling. Either that or he somehow manages to remain on the cliff with no glitch at all. It's really stupid, it shouldn't be so difficult.
I remember earlier I explored new ways to keep the combo going; I considered ramming into the massive wooden structure (I have no idea what it is, but you can jump through a gap hole it if you're on the lower level), and I really thought this was the key to success, except.... Rayman just glided through it. Through it. Not into it. Through it.

You can actually continue the combo by going along the edge of the same cliff a while after you land. If you do it so that you don't fall off, but are very close to that, you can make a kickflip, and then you're able to continue the combo with the yellow gems. It just doesn't give as many points. You could still combo the green gem for 7500 though.

Yeah, I have tried my luck on that wooden structure too. I have tried many other ways as well, but I still haven't been able to produce an alternative to this horrible edge thing. It's true that you can trigger a small launching glitch along the edge instead of landing on it directly. Maybe it's easier, I don't know. It should give you around 110.000 points, so if you can trigger this small glitch often enough, maybe it's the most decent alternative?

I've seen DTUCC's method, and I can't do that at all. For some reason Rayman cannot stay right at the edge. Anyway, you need to time it perfectly, else the first half will be separated from the second. I think the launching glitch is the only good way of doing it.

Have you made any progress with the big combo? Have you managed to get the green gem in combo? It seems the green gem is perhaps even more difficult to get than the launching glitch.
I've taken a few weeks break from R3, but I will probably start again this weekend.

I can only agree, it was possible for me to trigger the Launching-Glitch in 3 of 10 attempts, but the green gem is nearly impossible to get.
@MandM: For which level will you go? BOM?

I'm still in BOM part 6. After the break I somehow lost the feeling for this part and it takes time to find it again. I'm investigating this level to see if more points could be found, but still no luck. Maybe I just have to realise that 100.799
is the maximum score for BOM
How's it going with FC? Which part do you play now?

Hmm, yeah, maybe it's possible from a very certain position hit him 6 times.
Well, it's going not so lucky and I'm still stuck in Part 3. I'd thinked about that, that I maybe leave the difficult variante of the last Matuvu-Combo out.

Yeah, I guess making both of the outrageous Matuvu combos work is extreme. One can play forever, just like the Snowboard level in SBTC.

It's just so annoying when you was able to manage the extended version of the 3-Matuvu-Combo and then you've got everything such a good feeling after this and getting the yellow gems with the green can, and then when you failed again at the last combo I think, it's just a mindless thing, but after I think, well, you managed the last combo already, why don't you try it again? But after a while I'm so tired of this that I have to make a break. I wish that you could do the last matuvu-Combo before the 3MC, than it would be much easier.
