Re: Rayman 1
I do wonder if it might have been something as simple as them deciding they liked the look of it more after trying it in the PAL release, and it just becoming standard because they thought it looked cooler?
Actually, I know we see the two suns in the UbiArt games, but do we ever see the two moons in them?

Re: Rayman 1
As just discovered by XanderNT, this CD has the original walkthrough images for the PC version!
Previously we've only had ones which were low resolution and heavily compressed.
Example of the difference:

Hopefully one day we can find the original PS1 versions too!

Ah nice! As you've said, hopefully the PS1 versions will surface some day.

Re: Rayman 1
So we finally know where they came from! I remember asking Matthias Franke back in the day, but he could not remember.
Now I wonder if we should replace the low-resolution versions with those on the wiki, even though they have been replaced with the ones from Ray1Map inside articles.

Re: Rayman 1
Yeah! I don't think this is the original source though - they probably got them from Ubisoft through some press package I'm assuming? But it's nice to have the original versions without the heavy compression and red circles.Hunchman801 wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 10:03 am So we finally know where they came from! As for RayWiki, I think at the very least these should be preserved somewhere. The PS1 maps appear to be from a slightly earlier version of the game, with some tiling changes. The PC maps seem pretty standard though from what I recall, but still interesting nevertheless as it's part of the game's history!

Re: Rayman 1
Do you think it would make sense to upload them as new versions of the compressed ones? They essentially appear to be better versions of those.RayCarrot wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 12:27 pm As for RayWiki, I think at the very least these should be preserved somewhere. Re: Rayman 1
I think so yeah! These are the original, official ones, and the compressed ones with the red circles are most likely just edited ones that fansites had created to make finding the cages easier (and I recall they even missed circling a few of the cages).

Was that the image used in manuals and such? Never seen it before.

Sounds great! Do you know how I can download an archive of all the images in question?RayCarrot wrote: Sat Dec 06, 2025 8:34 pm I think so yeah! Re: Rayman 1
Taking a quick look here, it looks like all you have to do is download the iso from archive.org, and you can just mount it as a disc or extract it and get to all the files.Hunchman801 wrote: Wed Dec 10, 2025 1:00 pm Sounds great! The Rayman directory is within the 'solution' directory, and image formats are PSD files, so anything that supports that format is a go.
Re: Rayman 1
Yep, just like Reese said you can download the ISO and grab them from there! I assume we'll need to convert the PSD files for the wiki though.

Re: Rayman 1
This picture made me remember how on some versions of the game, the background scrolls separately than the foreground on this fight! Its always really bugged me.

Re: Rayman 1
I think it's on some of the DOS versions, it's shown in this video here (notice whenever Rayman gets on a boulder the bg and foreground shake separately)

Re: Rayman 1
They do, I've never noticed that, although I briefly remember feeling weird during the playthrough of PSX version. It was after I played the PC version. Something was odd about the fight with Mr. Stone. Now I know what bothered me
Re: Rayman 1
You mean, you all are bothered that there is vertical parallax scrolling, as opposed to just horizontal?

Re: Rayman 1
What bothers me is that the torches and the happy stone thing are very clearly supposed to be on the floor, yet they move separately from it. It looks like they're just floating in the air because of it.
