I'm pretty sure it's just going to be the ROM we all know.
Quite likely, I'm guessing they worded the announcement like those "never seen before" concept arts on Twitter which we already had on RayWiki, becuz of
m a r k e t i n g
!

Still, it's good to see it officially preserved rather than being lost on random sites (including unsafe ones) all over the Internet...
Would also be cool if there's any music/sound this time!
Similarly, it's great to see the Atari Jaguar release and Rayman 60 levels finally being ported in a very accessible form after so many decades!

Apparently, Saturn emulation is notoriously difficult, hence its absence from the prototype. Another thing that is notoriously complicated is music licensing, so don't expect to find the original soundtrack there either.
I'm well aware, the system had a very complex architecture especially with how it used its cores separately to render some features, I personnally could never get Saturn emulation to work properly with anything...
Exhumed/PowerSlave (another game of my early childhood) had that issue as well and we never got a proper complete port of it... But at least, Nightdive did bother to mix its unique level design and most of its features with the PS1 version when they remastered the game (said remaster being based on a fan one and being worked on by the same fan who they hired for it

)! And, of course, our beloved Ubislackers would never bother to go that extra mile!
And yeah, it can be especially complicated with Rémi's passing, but if
garbage companies like Square Enix could figure it out for some of their rereleases decades later, or after the composer's death in Dragon Quest's case
(despite how incredibly stingy Sugiyama could get with his music rights resulting in a lot of MIDI slop overseas), I don't see why it would be so impossible here.
At least I certainly can't call them lazy on this one, because doing an entirely new high-quality OST by a composer as talented as Christophe Héral isn't cheap, no matter how disappointing it is!
But no matter how great the new soundtrack is, this already makes it a weak rerelease that's gonna be outclassed by many past official ports and obviously Rayman Redemption (which they didn't even bother to compete with at all...).
That's just very bad for preservation and for the nostalgia factor of that collection...
It's like their Heroes of Might and Magic 3 HD port which didn't include the essential expansions "because they lost the source code", and so, all the HoMM community ignored it to stick to the complete GOG release and ran it under the more faithful and polished HD mod instead!
Another thing that might suck is, like Chronic also thought, that the Jaguar and Advance versions aren't supposed to sound like the PS1/DOS releases... Did they bother to make unique soundtracks for them? I seriously doubt that, so it may end up sounding completely out of place, at least for Advance's graphics! Heck, we don't even know if ALL the tracks are remade or if it's gonna be another Rayman Forever case, but even worse
GBC is already covered at least (which further explains that whole unexpected Chromatic rerelease thing), but we all know how that one doesn't sound at all like a classic Rayman soundtrack despite how the new tunes are way more professional in terms of 8-bit composing...

Five versions of Rayman 1 is kind of a let down. I'd prefer if they did a collection of Rayman 1, 2, 3 and Origins and Rayman 3 GBA, Hoodlum's Revenge and RRR GBA.
lmao that's a really high bar to set, keep wishing, I guess...
But tbh I'm *thankful* we got anything at all, you should be too. Imagine if Rayman didn't appear at all today in the State of Play, we would be very upset and we'd automatically assume Ubisoft didn't give a damn once again.
Be glad they actually gave a damn this time.
They already did it once for most mainline games + Rayman M in the Rayman Collection, and that's not mentioning
many past similar bundles including some handheld ones, they can easily do it again if they
actually gave a damn.
I'll always keep saying it: a classic platformer franchise as legendary as Rayman which is so impactful for Ubisoft's history deserves a full course meal, not bread crumbs after over a decade of nearly nothing.
Yes we can be happy with what we have (and I am right now for once), but we should always strive for more, not settle for less.
Btw, pretty weird how the PS4 and Xbox One aren't considered for this port, and the PC specifications they listed are oddly demanding... I get there are some modern emulation features like rewinding and stuff, but c'mon... you could run all the games of this collection with the processing power of a PS2
Once again, we'll have to do all the work ourselves to get it right through mods if possible... but that still means console players will be left out in that regard, and I dislike the notion of thinking a new generation will grow up with a version of Rayman 1 without its original soundtrack!
And it's funny, because this got announced yesterday exactly when I was working on the 1.4.5 update for my Terraria Rayman 1 music pack... so I hate to live in a timeline where bloody Terraria of all games is going to sound more like the original Rayman than Rayman 1 itself!
...Man, we'll truly never ever get that Ultimate Rayman 1 port that gets *everything* right, do we?
(and no I'm not talking about the PPC game lol... Speaking of which, missed opportunity to add the PDA versions of Rayman GBC, but they're probably lost to time...)
Am I gonna boycott the collection because I'm disappointed for the music? Heck no! Unless you actually butcher all of R1's identity, no force in the universe can stop Mortamon Saturn from buying his first video game again ad vitam æternam like the two-faced hypocrite he truly is!

I'm even gonna do a playthrough as soon as I can, and yes, I'll cover EVERY version included, whether my viewers can stomach the Rayman 1 overdose or not, NO ONE is stopping me!
Hey, regardless, I guess that'll be a good excuse for me to make another soundtrack-swap mod for Rayman Redemption instead!
I'm also already in the process of making a "Rayman 1-only" pack for it since last year and I already gave the game the Jaguar and Advance soundtracks!
