OMG it exists! :D I take it the game hangs if you jump in…
Actually yeah, that's a funny thing I've noticed, that the game hangs rather than crashing if the file is missing. You can put it back while the game is still running and then it loads it up. I guess that's to deal with the imperfection of reading from CDs?

EDIT: Come to think of it, maybe it was going to be a bonus level. A "surprise" waiting for anyone who decided to go back to the Woods of Light after completing the game, and notice a new door! Of course, the 50 Lums sort of go against that since it'd be pretty obvious to anyone that the figures don't add up at the end of the game, but maybe that's just a default value that they would have changed if they'd left it in.

Huh, that might explain why I always found the lilypads trickier in the PS1 version. Don't know about anyone else, but I love hearing about these details. Thanks for sharing, bunnieblaster!

Reminds me of Pannenkoek's videos, but Rayman 2 instead of Mario 64. I also love these technical videos, if you have any more similar discoveries I'd love to see them too :)
Out of curiosity, what is it you're using to see all of those in-game objects?

Wow, that's a very nice little detail. Of course if Rayman could roll that would make them way too difficult to use. Amazing that Michel himself was behind fixing that little (potential) annoyance!

For what it's worth, I tried using purple lums to get from the Fairy Glade part of Learn_31 to the Echoing Caves part, but there was an invisible wall which prevented anything on the other side from even being rendered. Oh well! Still have to check whether or not Rayman can grab the purple lum on a fresh game…

He can't. Look carefully at Rayman's shots before and after you free Ly. Before you free Ly, they are white, while after you free Ly they are light-blue. Without the light-blue shots, Rayman won't be able to grab any lums (not that it matters on the PC version). There is a cheat to get them: pause the game and type "hangon".

I was aware of the colour difference, I was just curious to see whether or not they'd actually implemented it on a gameplay level in the PC version. Which they did, I just found for myself! :P

Actually the rolling doesn't really affect gameplay, as if you stop moving the roll stops. It's just a visual thing.

Actually, come to think of it, if you managed to unlock "Surprise ! Le Monde des Pirates", maybe it's also possible to unlock "THE DREAM TEAM" as an option when Jano offers the treasure?

Yeah, how did no one else notice this lol?
Master wrote:Huh, that might explain why I always found the lilypads trickier in the PS1 version.
The reason it's trickier on the PS1 version is because they gave Rayman an accelleration time for moving, making it harder to perform standstill jumps and modify your position once in the air.

I have no idea why they disabled rolling there.

Well, maybe at one point during development the rolling was more than visual and disabling it helped with testing? I don't know.

That's what I thought.

Actually, the disabled rolling has a small gameplay effect. Normally if you stop walking Rayman does a little animation where he actually takes a little step. This is also disabled in these areas.

Even if the rolling never had any gameplay effect, it looks really off when you see Rayman do it repeatedly on small platforms, because of his character. Rayman 2 as a whole paints him as the careful type of hero, and having him jump more carefully on smaller platforms by not rolling is yet another way to show that. If this was Origins-era Rayman, then it wouldn't look that off as he's more of a happy-go-lucky hero. So yeah, they were right to disable it regardless of gameplay changes.

Anyway, nice finds!

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the intention, since it has Ancel's signature in it.

It would've really helped if they'd created a separate landing-while-running animation though. :P As it is, it feels more like a glitch.

Even then, the step only appears to trigger if Rayman's at a certain part of his running animation when you stop.

It's surprising that people still discover new secrets or little details in the game that is 18 years old.

Every time I think it couldn't get more extraordinary, it surprises me. It's impossible. I hate it. It's evil. It's astonishing. I want to kiss it to death.

Definitely give it a go, it's probably the most different version of the game, and I think it'll be an interesting experience.
