Barring the ability to play apps on a convenient portable device , and being able to read email on the go in an easy fashion, it hasn't been an excessive leap from my old feature phone. Perhaps I'd be more dependant if I were more sociable online and offline, but as it stands, I think I use SMS more than any other available means of communication for my phone (including social networking).
Same thing. Already put some reasons beofre in this topic. 5 :)

Probably 2 on that scale. My phone would be considered a granny phone these days. It doesn't even have a camera, can't access Internet and the only game it probably can run is Sudoku. But I borrow my mother's smartphone when I need one, though rarely. But I should probably get with the times and get a Nokia Lumia. I like the interface of the Windows OS.

Bumping, I want to see if the newbies have anything to say.

Also, I think my phone has slowly begun to become more integral, it's still the communication facilities I use it for, but there are plenty of situations where I've used it as a portable computer to browse the web during dreary lunch breaks.

I don't know what the hell I'd do if somehow I couldn't have a phone.
Calls, texting, email, Facebook, Snapchat, internet and music are just a few things I use extensively every day.

Especially since I moved close to college recently, how else can I keep up with my friends back in Cambridge? I think I'd go mental.

However, the last time I lost my phone and had to temporarily replace it, it only took about a day to replenish my contacts, so I suppose in real life terms it's not too bad, but yes, I am phone dependant.

And thank fuck for Facebook events.

Right now, I'm a 2. I hardly use my phone. I use it occasionally for internet browsing. I use it to ring my friend the odd time. And I keep it on me in case my family needs anything from me. And I use it for music on the bus to college (not right now though, my headphones broke). I also will play the odd mobile game (though not very often - I'm nearly finished Rayman Fiesta Run, and I want to playthrough Layton Brothers: Mystery Room, and I will support the new mobile release of Sonic 2 when it arrives). I also use it as an alarm clock (this is the only daily feature I use it for).

I know that sounds like I use it quite a bit, but the frequency of me doing these things (sans the alarm clock) is VERY low. I could easily survive without my phone in my current lifestyle, though it's nice to have.

However, until a few months ago, I was about a 7 or 8. I really did have a lot of use for my phone for the 2 years prior to that.

Zero on the scale. I never cared for phones, never had one, nor do I see all the hype around them. I'm sticking to my computer, thank you very much. I see kids who look like they're in fucking Kindergarten walk around with their eyes glued onto a phone screen. I'm sorry, but whenever I see that I have the sudden urge to slap the shit out of the parents near them. The older generations constantly bitch about the younger ones and yet they're the ones who are raising 'em.

Meh, like I've said earlier, I use my phone mostly as a backup computer, to do the very things I'd normally do on a computer, I was never in it for the apps, though I do indulge myself a little now and then, it's first and foremost a communications and web browsing tool.

As an update, I now use the SIM card of my phone in my tablet in order to be less one thing to carry with me. Plus I got a Bluetooth headset in order to do appropriate calls in the outside with the tablet. The phone will now be exclusively used as an MP3 player.

Hmm, I think I've begun to shift to 7, I use my phone as an organiser now, with my exam timetables, homeworks and other notes jotted onto it. I still do the other things, useful backup when my computer is inaccessible, but I'm definitely seeing my need for it becoming more integrated.

Do I use phone a lot? Heck yeah but mostly to browse internet and watch videos. Texting and calling? God no, I do not like being called and disturbed by others and I only call first if it is absolutely needed to help someone or if it is related to purchasing and selling stuff. What I said about calling applies for texting too.

I'm perhaps a 4 to 5. Phones are incredibly useful for if you need to contact someone one way or the other. Also, I occasionally use it as an MP3-player to pass a train journey. There's infrequent visits to the internet too, but most of that I still do from my laptop or desktop computer.

Now, the Voice Recorder option of mobile phones puts everything in a different perspective. There's almost not a tune I come up with that I don't immediately make a voice recording of, simply because I've lost too many good song ideas in the past. ;D

Bumping, seeing as we've now got a mobile theme, I'm wondering if things have changed.

As for myself, I've bumped myself up to a 9, I might not play games on my phone much, but I definitely have used its multimedia capabilities to get by long days. Not to mention the reliance on web messaging services over traditional SMS.

Then there's the apps. I have one to check train times. Another for email, and even one to quickly view and print documents if I'm in a hurry. I think it's fair to say that having a portable computer to hand has been of great convenience to me.

Well, since I arrived in France I haven't used my phone.... At all, I simply grabbed it yesterday to connect it to the WiFi and I use it to post that message now, it is the first time I use it here.

As a matter of fact, at home I am more phone dependent because of all the uses I have of it, I use it as a modem, a camera, a mp3 readed a video screen, pretty much for everything.
But, I don't use it as a telephone since I call or send messages to no one.
So I'd say I'm not that much phone dependent.

I chose 0 since I don't have a phone, and in the past when I've got one it's always been forgotten about and left to correct dust.
I do use my iPod touch alot, but mainly for music and podcasts and browsing the web when I can't be bothered to find a computer. I think I'd do fine without it though as long as I had a decent MP3 player.

I put 8, because I use it a lot. Sometimes when I get an email notification in a lecture I even check it straight away. But there are still certain places where I'm happy not to have it.

I bought my first smartphone (Mogo G) after Christmas in 2014 after 4-5 years of putting up with a Nokia C5 and I pretty much use it for virtually everything from looking up bus times to renewing library books, so yeah I guess you can say I'm very dependent on the internet side of it; calls and texts not so much. Whether I should upgrade is another thing because despite it not having a big internal storage, I still have this phone and it hasn't quite given up on me yet (which is weird as my partner has the same phone and his first one bricked after about 7 months, his current one's been good though). It's not amazing at playing big games like Rayman Adventures though so we'll see.
