Rayman 3 switching between 36 and 60 fps

I just bought the GOG edition of Rayman 3 and I was looking forward to playing it but I've been having this strange stuttering problem with the game. It decides when it wants to switch between 36 and 60 fps. My computer has AMD switchable graphics in it (yes I'm using a laptop) and I used the Catalyst Control Center to disable Vsync as I read here (
http://www.gog.com/forum/rayman_series/ ... 3_fps_drop) that it was just a matter of disabling Vsync but Ubisoft's games are so stubborn when it comes to getting them to work how you want. The problem persists even after forcing Vsync off for Rayman 3. I have no Idea what I can do next. If it helps at all I'm using windows 7 64bit. Please help me enjoy this awesome game and thanks in advance

Hm, Rayman 3 has this issue as well? More proof it uses the same engine as Rayman 2?
Anyways, if it is indeed the same problem as Rayman 2, I don't think anything can be done, I'm afraid.

Could you tell me what exactly is the problem?

I'm not wholly sure, I'm not all that technically minded.
A similar issue is present in Rayman 2, where the FPS seems to switch between 30 and 60, I don't know if we ever determined the cause, I'd wait and see what other members have to say.

I posted a likely explanation as to why in the Rayman 2 topic earlier this month:
Adsolution wrote:Having briefly grazed some primitive 3D engines, I know that there were often specific, busier areas within levels where the designers would choose to slap a on a framelimit to balance out your GPU's usage - or it could be programmed to be dynamic so that when things get busy or your GPU heats up, it drops to 30 (the latter being more risky). In the 90s, GPUs had very poor temperature regulation, and if allowed to run at 60 FPS in said busier areas, could overheat. Back then the 'recommended system requirements' were a lot more literal, as it could be the difference between running close to or at the max framerate, and having a game that crashes your computer every five minutes, potentially causing burst capacitors, (which are actually somewhat physically toxic if they really blow and the fumes are ejected through the case fan), and since back then integrated GPUs were almost solely used (and mostly were only up until the the mid-to-late 2000s, that would mean needing to replace the whole motherboard.
Whether this is the case with Rayman 2 I'm not sure, but I think it's reasonably safe to assume that it is.
If Rayman 3 uses the same engine, then that would likely be why. I never noticed it though, probably because I never really paid much attention.
Essentially, there's nothing you can do about it, and it isn't a problem as that's the way it was meant to be.

But why would they make the game with an inconsistent framerate? It's not even like completely inconsistent. It's like.. consistently inconsistent. I can run through one part and it will give me 36 fps and then turn around and do it again and it will say 60. Is this something everyone experiences?

Can you record a lossless, 60 FPS video for us and upload it to a file-sharing website?

I could stream the game on twitch with FRAPS FPS recorder in the window. Would that be good? Then I could get live feedback on how to solve the problem
I've found that if I force it to run in a window, it stutters between 72 and 36 fps instead of 60 and 36.

No, that won't do, as the whole point of the video is to actually physically see the problem without the need of a frame counter. Just record a lossless, 60 FPS video.

I'm sorry I'm not exactly sure about what a "lossless" video is

It's a video without loss!

It basically means in full quality with no compression or whatnot. The video should look just as sharp as the real thing, this includes recording at 60 FPS so we can physically see the drops in framerate in the video when they occur. It's pretty straightforward, and I think recording an uncompressed AVI with FRAPS would be your best bet, then upload it to somewhere like MediaFire.

Ok I can do that but it will take me a litte while. I will upload it by tonight.

Well not it seems that Rayman 3 doesn't like my computer anymore and it refuses to even start up without crashing.... -sigh-

Where is it crashing exactly, and is there an error message, or just 'Xxx has stopped working'?

I somehow got it to work this morning by doing absolutely nothing but resetting my computer a million times and I recorded the video so I'll be uploading it now
edit: the video I recorded is about 2 and a half minutes long and almost 6GB big!! I expected a large file but mediafire won't allow me to upload a file of such volume. I'll be uploading it to youtube and the expected wait time for the upload is 3 hours.

Well after so long I think it's good. You can barely see the lag in the video though. I recorded at 60 FPS and 720P

Well uploading it to YouTube was a total waste of time, as YouTube downgrades the video quality to a very lossy, 30 FPS format, which is why I specifically requested that you upload it to file-sharing website. The video shouldn't need to be more than five or ten seconds long realistically, enough to show off the switch between the two framerates.

Not sure if it was like this for you guys but the site was down all day yesterday for me. I could only make the video like 6 or 7 seconds long to fit in that 200MB slot but here it is

Any thoughts? suggestions?
