Say a new Rayman cartoon is being made.

What would you want it to be like? For me, I can't think of anything yet, I just thought this would be an interesting discussion. If I have ideas, I'll put them down.

Rayman Legends: The Animated series *brick'd*

But really, I would love a cartoon with the art style of Legends. Or, if it were a 3D show again, something along the lines of the CGI Rayman Legends trailer. Though the latter would probably only happen in a higher budget, feature length film, because it has quite a bit of detail.

I always liked the idea of an Origins styled cartoon. If it had the good writing and such, it could turn out a well made show hopefully.

I'd love to see a ~70-episode anime-esque series based off the story of Rayman 2. I think it would work excellently, as it would provide a chance to explore the game's interesting universe, expand upon some characters we only get to see very briefly, have amazing action scenes (just think of the fights against the Guardians), some surreal humour, beautiful artistry, and a grand journey, and that unmatched sense of mysticism conveyed through such scenes as the first encounter with Polokus.

Whooh, getting shivers here.

Hm, pretty much the same for moi, though perhaps focus a bit more on making Rayman and co look more like a rebel force.

I wonder how the character design if it were to be anime.

I was moreso referring to an anime-esque kind of storytelling and production, not necessarily modifying the character design to fit a more stereotypical Japanese style. Besides, even if it were an anime, I doubt they would touch the character designs much at all.

Yeah, I don't like the idea of Rayman in anime form. Not that I dislike anime at all, just doesn't fit Rayman at all. To me, Rayman is one of the best examples of Western animation within video games. I feel a show should embrace that.

In terms of tone, I'd be fine with pure comedy, but I'd appreciate a balance between comedy and meaningful storytelling. I think the world of Origins/Legends already serves as a good stage for that, but then you could also throw in some Rayman 2 characters, as well as Barbara.

NINJA'D: Well, there is no real....anime way of storytelling, to be honest. The term "anime" only refers to the style of animation, and nothing else.

I see. Though, Ad, would you rather see it being made CGI or traditionally animated?

@brawler
Yes, more Barbara please.

Completely false. 'Anime' has influence over all aspects of production style, including the mode of storytelling, pacing, common themes, character development, and of course, the animation/visual style.

Mostly traditional, though I could envision CGI being used frequently to enhance it, sort like how Legends uses it.

I have some ideas.
If it's possible, I would like to see them tie in all the Rayman games together. Give it one big universe. I think the tone should be somewhere in-between comedy and seriousness. Blend them together, like Rayman 2.

Personally, I would love to see animation based off Rayman 1, but that's the least likely thing they would do.

Fucking this! While I did like Rayman 1 better, I simply don't think Rayman 1 and 3 could be made into a 70 episode anime series, Rayman 2 totally fits the quality for such a task.

Would love to see a deeper look into Rayman 2's world. I think it could be something along the lines of Avatar where humour and seriousness are combined brilliantly and allows every character, even ones that are normally brighter, to have their emotional moment. In fact, the way you describe the idea is almost exactly what Avatar is.

I'd like to see a Rayman Origins/Legends styled show that goes over all of the Rayman games. Have each episode be based around a level and try to fit the games into a singular storyline. Of course, if they do make a new cartoon, it's going to be a slapstick comedy series like Rabbids Invasion, with a lot more action in it. Also featuring The Magician as the ineffective comedy villain who becomes a lot more popular than the rest of the cast.

I don't see a cartoon being based off Rayman 2 solely working all that well, especially if it were to have 70 episodes. Rayman 2 itself doesn't have that much of a story in all actuality, no big twists or anything amazing like that. There would be a lot of filler episodes, most of them probably focusing around brief scenes in the game, like one episode being based entirely around the Globox Village, or one focusing on taking out that machine that creates the force field around Ly. I could see a 26 episode season based on Rayman 2 working, but not a full series.

An extra point for the idea of the Magician being the comedic villain, but add a little badass quality to his character, maybe?

@Bio, why not adapt some plot elements from the PS1 and PS2 versions to beef thins up a little?
Given that we'll need some character development and the like, I think a little extra can be written in also.

@Adsolution: I've actually read that article before, and it honestly still sounds like something written by a weeaboo in an attempt to big anime up to more than it is. Though I won't go into why I believe that, and I can see why people might say it's more than just the animation. But as a person who does in fact enjoy quite a few animes (HUGE Gundam fan right here), I still can't agree with it being more than just an art style. It's fine if other people think otherwise though.

----------------

To expand upon my previous post about what I'd like in a Rayman cartoon, there is a certain aspect of Legends that a lot of people seem to not take heed of (I referenced this in the Legends topic recently), and I think that aspect could be presented in a more cinematic way to cover the serious side of a Rayman cartoon.

That's ridiculous, it's written by people who obviously know what they're talking about. The is one of the most popular anime-reference sites. Just because it's clearly written in a somewhat passionate/enthusiastic manner doesn't make its content any less valid.

It's not something to "agree" on more than it is recognised fact; the information supporting my claims are even readily available on the anime Wikipedia article, as well as in many, many other sources. Even every dictionary definition capitalises on thematics and narrative style just as much as the visual style itself.

"Anime" is used to refer to Japanese animated series/films. It's not literally referring to the animation itself, despite the fact that its name is obviously derived from the word "animation"; it's called that because it's a certain style of entertainment that only exists in animated form.

Do as you wish I guess, but I'm personally not fond of going around and making up my own definitions for words that already have definitions.

Dream all you want about a Rayman 1 or Rayman 2 adaptation, but the reality is that any kind of Rayman animated series would channel the imagery and tone of Rayman Origins and Rayman Legends as closely as possible. The idea of the Origins/Legends world without gameplay doesn't hold much appeal for me.

If it were up to me I'd like to see a computer-animated series based on Rayman 2, which has the strongest story and themes. You'd need to expand on the characters quite a bit, and rework the action and objectives to make them more cinematic, but apart from that you could probably turn each level into a 22-minute episode. If it was produced by a studio that actually understood the game I expect we'd find a lot to enjoy about it. I really wouldn't like to see Rayman stray into anime territory though.
