Rayman 2: Graphics Fix (Supports NVIDIA, Fixes Lag)

EDIT: Seems like there are more issues than anticipated. Can anyone facing issues try this download instead?.

Recently, I discovered a way to fix the graphics of Rayman 2, which doesn't work so well on newer PCs. This should fix the following issues (and maybe more!):
  • The game should now work properly in fullscreen, with no window border visible!
  • The game should run fluidly between 30fps and 60fps, with no frame drops or lag!
  • The game should work with NVIDIA cards on the latest drivers!
  • The game should run without requiring any Glide drivers (such as nGlide) to be installed!
  • The game should now not flicker at startup (which itself was a side-effect of the Glide workarounds)!
  • The game may accept switching via alt-tab, but it might still crash.
Instructions
  1. Download the fixed .dll files.
  2. Open the .zip file you downloaded, and place the three .dll files in the Rayman 2 installation folder (in the same folder as the Rayman 2 executable).
  3. Attempt to open GXSetup.exe. If every box is blank and a pirate-head is displayed, right click GXSetup.exe, click "Properties", click the "Compatibilty" tab, then select "Run the program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP Service Pack 2" and try again. If it still does not work, go back into the compatibility tab, then select "Reduced colour mode: 8-bit (256) colour" and try again.
  4. Once GXSetup.exe has been opened with no boxes blank, under Renderer, select the option containing "DirectX6", and under Resolution choose your prefered resolution. All other setting should be kept as default (although changing them may still work).
  5. Now start the game, and it should work flawlessly!
If anyone has any issues getting this to work, reply to this topic and I will do my best to help you.

Ooh, a fix for the 60 FPS instability? I'm going to check this out for sure.

Hmm, I've got it set up, but it immediately crashes once the initial loading screen is finished.

Seems I made a mistake. It still fluctuates between 30 and 60fps, but it doesn't lag horrendously on Windows 8 anymore. I will work on fixing that though.

Can I have a screenshot of your GXSetup.exe? (Also, do you have a glide wrapper such as nGlide installed?)

Pasting the 3 dll files result GXSetup to freeze at white screen.

Hmm... for me GXSetup starts after waiting at the white screen. However, my antivirus did cause some issues. Try disabling your antivirus or adding the dll files to the exceptions list.

Hmm, it does run for me, but it fails to display most of the textures. What's your ubi.ini RibShark? Maybe that would help.

Well, this is certainly odd. It seems everyone has different problems...

Anyway, this is my Ubi.ini:

Code: Select all

[Rayman2]
GLI_DllFile=GliDX6
GLI_Dll=DirectX6
GLI_Driver=display
GLI_Device=Direct3D HAL
GLI_Mode=1 - 1600 x 900 x 16
Language=English
ParticuleRate=High

I've put an alternate download at the top. Graphics may be slightly worse, but compatibility may be higher.

I'm not using a Glide wrapper, here's my Ubi.ini for you

Code: Select all

[Rayman2]
GLI_DllFile=GliDX6
GLI_Dll=DirectX6
GLI_Driver=display
GLI_Device=Direct3D HAL
GLI_Mode=1 - 1024 x 768 x 16
Language=English
ParticuleRate=High

My Windowed Mode fix

GOG version has f* up access to GXSetup which is responsible for settings. It's because some files is missing.
Just use my fix and get GXSetup back (run as admin) to set resolution,
install nGlide, and get also full screen back and better graphics than DX6.

Is there any way to play in 32 bit instead 16? I haven't found.

Odd.

I guess the DLLs just aren't compatible with certain machines. I'm keeping this topic up though, as I am planning to do something.

@Deton24: Glide graphics are poor compared to DirectX, so I wanted to avoid using glide wrappers.

You're sure of that? How much? I often heard opposite.

I thought so, but, it seems not.

Still working on something cool though, so bare with me.

Could a mod delete this topic for now, as I am working on something that will heavily surpass this.
