Or rather OGG Vorbis as lossy format and FLAC as lossless format. MP3 sucks on a low bitrate while OGG on the same low bitrate is still super clear and incredibly small in filesize. WAV, being uncompressed, is sometimes way too big to be shared properly. If you're confused: Lossy is a compression method that, in this case, discards potential unheard parts of the audio on the low and high end frequencies of a spectrum, resulting in a reduced quality and clarity in short-terms. Lossless is a compression method that keeps all the audio intact in smaller sizes, just like how an archiving formats like ZIP and RAR works. FLAC is often converted from WAV, since it's not being a standard exportation possibility in a lot of digital audio applications. There shouldn't be any compatibility problems if you use VLC, Media Player Classic, GStreamer, MPlayer, etc.
But this is only a suggestion to make audio file sharing and storage more efficient.
