Four rectangles? Sounds vaguely like a KDE4 environment, if I remember right (I haven't used KDE in ages). Were you using openSUSE by any chance?Ambidextroid wrote:I once had a unix laptop but I can't remember which version of linux. does anyone know of a linux where the desktop is four rectangles, each with a different theme. One was internet, another was documents or something...
I'd quite like to give it another whirl for nostalgia's sake

No idea, I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Linux, I've only used it a few times.PluMGMK wrote:Four rectangles? Sounds vaguely like a KDE4 environment, if I remember right (I haven't used KDE in ages). Were you using openSUSE by any chance?

You’re referring to Ubuntu. https://ubuntu.comAmbidextroid wrote:No idea, I'm afraid I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to Linux, I've only used it a few times.
I do remember there was a kind of app store where you could download free Linux games, I remember a few gems such as "Angry Drunken Dwarves" and "Super Tux", aswell as one rather nightmarish metroidesque platformer...

Great!PluMGMK wrote:So, I've started messing with Microsoft's so-called "Windows Subsystem for Linux". I've been able to set up the Nemo file manager as an alternative to Windows Explorer, with the help of Xming, and I've also set up an SSH server. There's something weirdly satisfying about using this plus SSH to drive MS Office using remote commands from a Linux laptop.
