Finding Out The Original Rayman 2

Like Droolie showed us a video of Beta R2 (In RZ, I think), I know there's more information about it somewhere on the net.

Rayman 2's excellently awarded Wikipedia topic (presumbly made with help by Foutz_boy), they said some stuff about the characters, enemies, and other.

Could we unveil the original Rayman 2? Could we get so much information to actually remake the game itself?

Well, we should at least try to find out more about the original Rayman 2. Just looking at a video with the original Robo-Pirates isn't enough.

It is time to find out.

What was the original Rayman 2 overall?

Just the same as Rayman 1?
Just a dumb idea I'm glad they scrapped?
Did Ly or Globox even appear in Concepts?

I remembered Rayfan on FF.net saying that Ly was apparently supposed to be more like some sort of princess, and that the Robo-Pirates were basically trying to create an intergallactic zoo thing.

At least, that's what was stated in the game previews at the time. I'll have to check again... Maybe she has a scan of it.

Was Razorbeard ever involved?

I heard that the original Razorbeard looked like some kind of retarded bird.

I have nooo idea. I'd think so.

But as for his older appearance... where did you hear that? O__O
If that's the case, I'm glad he looks the way he does now. XD;;

That was either in TRP's dead fansite or Matthias' fansite.

Well...

1. Get PSX Rayman 2
2. Collect at least 720 lums
3. Beat the game
4. Play... errr... something 2D

But I found video on YouTube already telling how this 2D game looks.

The original Rayman 2 can be unlocked in the PSone version by getting at least 90% and then finishing the Crow's Nest (final boss)

The controls are pretty quick to pick up on, and you can redirect Rayman's fist if it is fully charged.

Why did you post just to say that? We already know that ( see first post and Stan's post ).
Oh, and by the way, this:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5hw8JiTAf ... re=related
is a video showing the complete level ( I died in the video ), on the original PSOne ( my video was from the emulated version, it didn't emulate the music - as CDDA music was disabled when I recorded it, and it was slow because of FRAPS ).

Now that I'm looking at this video again, it would be REALLY cool if they had made more levels like that. The platforming is amazing, even better than the original Rayman 1's platforming! ^^

That is a BRILLIANT find thank you! *sigh*, I love Rayman 2 as it is, but why this had to be dropped I don't know. I'm guessing that it was uncool to have 2D games on the N64 so they made it in blocky 3D instead. It would have been a brilliant game that would have SOLD, and it beats the crap out of Hoodlums' Revenge, that's for sure. If Ubisoft are really out of ideas on what to put out for the DS instead of all that Games for everyone garbage, why not develop this into a full game? I'd certainly buy it.

One thing though, I don't think the Walk of Life music suits this level. :/

I see what you mean about the PS1 emulation, when I play Rayman 1 on ePSXe it doesn't play the .RAW music even if CDDA is enabled.

The platforming really is amazing, far better than most 2D platform games.
BTW: You can jump on the robot dinosaur, hit him on his head, use his head as a platform and use the teleporter you can reach from there to get more lives.
I demonstrated that in my slow emulated video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CjdRKhnhvDQ

About the Walk of Life music, that's probably because they didn't have more fitting music for it in the R2 music, because they probably didn't have any music at all when they made that level.

Oh, and one last thing: You have to enable XA music on both music plugin and music general settings.

Can someone upload a savefile that has enough lums to unlock this level? I'm really busy this summer and don't really have time to replay through Rayman 2 but I'd really like to try out the platforming on my own (playing a game and watching a video really isn't the same thing).

I remember reading that an old copy of EGM had concept art of a green enemy wielding a chainsaw, does anyone know if that was ever scanned and put online somewhere? I kind of wish I knew what issue it was, I wouldn't mind seeking it out and purchasing it just to have the old article which may contain more information.

Its a shame that Ubisoft's current policy more or less is "AAA Games are really violent, mature titles and Casual games are minigames and nonfiction games. No other types of games exist." since I bet we'd be getting stuff akin to this and the N64 games they made and published (Buck Bumble, Rocket:Robot on Wheels, etc.) on the DS. It just blows my mind why Ubisoft thinks the only things parents will buy for their children are minigame compliations and licensed games.

Why the hell did we return to this conversation and recap what we said a long time ago?

Eh, whatever.

The point of the topic was to at least find out what the original Rayman 2 was supposed to be like the characters and stuff and not reseeing that video.

Looking back at it too, I want to see that Rayman 2 in a Rayman 1 prequel type of thing. I just don't like the tings, they don't fit well in the game. :/

Yeah, it's nice, isn't it? I agree about the tings though.

Well, about the original R2, I think there are some hints in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KujjiLYaW8
Look at the end of the video: When the camera zooms out after Rayman falls down on the tree trunk, you'll see a red candle thing next to him. As he's lying down just next to Rayman and doesn't do anything ( he doesn't attack him ), I assume he was supposed to be Rayman's friend in the old version ( I think the CGI 3D is older than the actual game footage in the video, because you can clearly see some R1-like elements in the CGI: cartoony, clouds, the old Rayman logo and even a R1 balloon at 0:30, and even the seat where Rayman is controlling himself looks like the cartoony style of the extra 2D R2 level ). Other than that, the music in that trailer sounds a little more R1-ish than R2 is now.

I thought that thing was a stick of dynamite. XD

My guesses it that the red candle/explosive turned into the bottlewalkers.

Or what ever they're called, I keep forgetting. XD

Now you say so, it does indeed look more like an explosive XD

And... bottlewalkers? XD

Hi kelvin! :mryellow:

It's me, spiraldoor! :mryellow:

You remember me! :mryellow:

From RaymanZone! :mryellow:

And, BTW, making the R2 beta demo into a full game was MY idea, I posted it in the "Let's build a RAYMAN game!" discussion.

Back to topic. Does anybody have a pic of the green chainsaw-wielding villain from the 2D beta version of R2? I'd really like to see him.
