HAI GUYS !
3days ago, it has been
2years that this crazy project is running.
I think there's some things to do.
- First, centralize all in one what we discovered ; what kind of interesting things we found.
Second, we should seriously start thinking about creating a special section on the Pirate Community about messing around with/reverse enginnering Rayman games (or more likely Rayman One and Rayman 2's Game Engine Based Games).
And finally, starting to look for real programmers/geeks/computer guys that would be interested about helping us.
As for me, I'll go to college next year, stating learning computer science (if I success in that :/). I see myself reverse enginnering Rayman 2 for my thesis haha ; We can say it's the goal of my life
I thought also about something to (maybe) speed a little bit up the reverse engineering of Rayman games, like putting a reward for the first one on the internet to start doing a reverse enginnering of Rayman One for exemple.
It's a DANGEROUS idea since it's not funny to mess around with money, so there won't be any kind of "raising/donating for the reward (that may not work btw)" but instead of that I'll be starting saving my own money when I'll able to do it. I think 100 to 500€ is a good reward.
You're welcome to call me crazy.
I apologize, as usual, for my crappy english.

I agree about the section part. It should be centralized, easy to find, and there would be alot more co-working

Sounds like a good idea, but maybe we should give ourselves a goal first. As far as I know, we have extracted a lot of music, textures and models from several Rayman games, but reverse engineering them is a whole different story. Even though Phoebius' and Equilibrium369's PSP homebrew projects are rather awesome, they are based on a whole new game engine.
That's why I would suggest we take care of the original game first; not that I have any idea where to start, but it should probably be much easier than reverse engineering Rayman 2.

BTW, it turns out that Rayman Designer and Rayman 2 2D were based on the same engine.

We really need something like raywiki or raytunes for ripped files and info about the ripping progress. The goal for us is to get the sources of Rayman games completely and being able to understand them and customize them, and understand all file formats.

Also, the engine for Rayman 1 should be unlocked or something, so that it'll be easier to create more rayman games, and it would be interesting.
The way the gravity and jumping is built in Rayman is the most perfect way it could possibly be, and therefore i want it
Also, yes i fully support that there should be something like raywiki/raytunes for the ripping, as it then atleast would be gathered at one place.

Yeah that's one thing I like about Rayman - the jumps are just about right for most of the time, not to high and fast, not too slow and low.

Sounds like a good idea. I have no idea what it should be like though.

Sounds like a good idea, but we should list all we have gathered here before we start such a project.

Terminapor is also making an engine with Game Maker for the PC BTW.

There is a platform in the R2 2D Beta which tilts when Rayman stands on it and he slips off. In Rayman Designer, Tehrunescape found a behaviour with those characteristics a while ago. Same behaviours == Same/similar engine.

can you link me to terminapor's project then? i wanna know whats going on.
However the original rayman engine should be unlocked, just for the sake of it. it's the most fully awesome engine i've ever played on. atleast for 2D

I would have thought that it would be based more directly on R1 actually. But it seems that RD is just R2 with R1 sprites. Food for thought.
