Out of all the artists you like to listen to, what are some of your favorites and why?

Green Day and Linkin Park, Bo Burnham and Tim Minchin. Michel Ancel is one of the few AAA devs that has a truly interesting design philosophy. I don't normally read too heavily into traditional artists that draw or paint.

Dude, what about Shigeru Miyamoto, Sid Meier (Civilization), Andy Gavin & Jason Rubin (Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted)? And Brian Allgeier (Ratchet & Clank), with his Directing Video Games: 101 Tips for Creative Leaders book, of course! Cliff Bleszinski (Unreal Tournament) is a true genius also.

Concerning music, it ranges from Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, KSHMR, and more recently Vini Vici for EDM to Meshuggah, The Algorithmfor metal. I find a lot of jazz fusion/funk artists to be very inspiring, for instance Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke.

When it comes to music, there's a huge a mount of diversity in what I listen to. If I had to pinpoint one of my favourite things, it'd be musicians (especially vocalists) who have developed their own incredibly distinct style and express it through explosive, unrestrained passion, like Björk, Muse, Jeff Buckley, and even Sia.

Another thing I really like are weird, organic experimental artists like Brian Eno, and when programming I often listen to ambients like Carbon Based Lifeforms (I can't concentrate with anything more intense than this lol).

Since I've studied Classical music theory and history for years, I like a lot of Classical (not technically Classical) music as well, especially from the late-Romantic era like Gabriel Fauré's Pavane op 50 (to me, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written), and Expressionistic stuff like Alan Hovhaness' Meditation on Orpheus and Olivier Messiaen's Quarter pour la fin du temps.

Roland Kirk is sweet too.


Outside of music, I don't really follow many artists. Though, I'm also really into cinematography, and I love directors like Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch who have a thing for surrealism, atmosphere, minimalistic lighting and real-time pacing.

Yeahe, David Lynch is grate! I love interpretive art and Lynch's execution of it, I really like all those little shorts he did like this 4-minute video of a staircase where the supposed "meaning" may literally just be him seeing what people make of pointless shots. I find it really boring when people like The Flaming Lips come out and go "this song means this and that ones about that" when their lyrics are loaded with strange psychedelic metaphors that feel just a bit less magical when someone deconfirms your take on what they mean.

Not that everything should be interpretive by default though, I think Roger Waters and Kendrick Lamar are both great examples of artists who make very conceptual, contemporary music that prove you can take that approach and make something genuinely interesting beyond putting "Trump SUCKS!" to a beat.

The Bands i wanna give shoutouts to: Modest Mouse is has a couple amazing albums up their sleeves, the raw and "unfiltered" kind of emotion coming from Isaac Brock's lyricism and vocal performance always gives their music a ton of authenticity (even though the last album was mediocre). I also love that their music evokes exactly the kind of background you'd envision the band to have - the rural American, trailer park kind of vibe in their music was apparent to me before knowing that's literally where they're from. Their early albums sound like the background to US roadtrips and long drives through gloomy dull plains in Texas. I'm surprised country music never had something branch off somewhere in this direction.

The Flaming Lips despite calling them slight Tido Blackmans are another bandd I wanna give a shoutout to: Their lead singer is retardedly shittyy and actually retarded but there is something really charming about their freaky childlike nature. I love the Disney-like orchestral sound off The Soft Bulletin which either has an underlying darker tone or is actually relentlessly optimistic, it's one of my Top 5 Top 1 Best Albums Keane Best Ever. And on the other side of the spectrum their really bitter moody cuts like Embryonic and The Terror are also guhreat.

Otters I like also include Bjork, Muse, Jeff Buckley, and even weird, organic experimental artists like Brian Eno. Aand Radiohead of coursee, which is literally my favourite band.

The only ones I really know of that you mentioned are Miyamoto, Gavin and Rubin; And while I think they're alright they just never cliqued with me in the same way, especially Miyamoto who comes off as very aloof at times.

My favorite musical artists/composers include Hideki Naganuma, Bach, The Beatles, Koji Kondo, Stevie Wonder, Jurassic 5, Queen, Joe Hisaishi, OutKast and Chopin off the top of my head.

As for painters I'm also not too familiar, but Caspar David Friedrich comes to mind. Lots of landscapes that have a sort of lonely quality about them that always manage to stimulate my imagination and send me into a daydream.

My top favourite musical group is Kraftwerk without shadow of doubt (if we really need to talk about an individual I will refer to one of its founders, Ralf Hütter. He still is in the group). I think they were way ahead on their time and their music brought many influence on other musical genres (like Hip-Hop) and musicians (Coldplay is one example, just listen to "Talk"). They are fantastic in what they do. The Radioactivity album is one of their masterpieces: they grab the dual concept it carries and create a sequence of tracks covering both things. And every music is so meticulously built, note by note. When I listen to Autobahn for example, I think there's not a single synthesizer that is randomly placed or incorrectly placed. I might not be a musical expert but when I listen their songs, I feel they are unique and there's something special in what they do. Listening them live is even more (ear)mind-blowing, I had that privilege twice already. I love Kraftwerk.

Karl Bartos is a former member of the group but I do like his work in the electronic percussion, namely his album Communication.

Interesting, I've never come across anyone who's into Kraftwek other than in a "I appreciate what they did for music" sort of way, I'll have to give them a listen.

Mine are Rémi Gazel and Eric Chevalier. Both will hold a special place in my heart, including Michel Ancel (I know Michel Ancel is a designer, not an artist, but still).

I really like visual arts, especially the modernist/avantgarde style artists from the 20th century. There were interesting art movements, which later also affected the world of comics, and the underground comix scene was born. In that time (the '70s), lived Rory Hayes, my favourite comic artist who created a very personal and sensitive style, he drew his own inner world, his fears into his comics. His drawings were pretty childish, mostly about a teddy bear with a terrified face and some monsters chasing him down for the whole story, quite dark stuff. Rory lived with a personal disorder, and in his childhood he made comics and zines with his brother about their dolls and imaginary movies. He died at the age of around 34 because drugs and I kinda respect him for showing off his madness in his comics.

Kraftwerk are really amazing. I remember discovering the band when my old friend Matty bought me Autobahn for my 12th birthday. He was really into it, but it was my first time listening to them, and at some point I would just play the CD on a loop for hours in my room.
It felt so empowering I would sometimes forget about everything else! Like that pie I left in the oven, burning it to a cinder but also triggering the smoke alarm and making the house stink of charcoal for days. The music was so loud I didn't hear the alarm, or my dad enter my room for that matter. He was so angry he took me to the garage and beat the living shit out of me with a set of jumper cables.

I probably have more on this list too so I'll update when I remember.

I've recently been big into old school/alternative hip-hop, some of my favourite stuff is the early work of De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. They're pretty jazzy and up beat but have a kind of homemade feel to them.

I've also listened to a lot of MF DOOM over the past year, and while I didn't really like him at first he's become one of my favourite artists. My favourite albums of his are The Mouse and The Mask (admittedly one of his most normie accessible albums but I really like it) and of course Madvillainy. There's also GG DOOM which I only recently found, an incredible unofficial fan album.

As for other groups, I like a lot of up beat styles like Jurassic Five, Blackalicious, Ugly Duckling and KMD, and a few others like Cypress Hill, Wu Tang Clan and Lauryn Hill.

I like a lot of Rock, punk, some metal too and I do like some old school rap/hip-hop. I like other stuff too but they're the main ones

I try to listen to all genres but there are some that I just can't get myself into, ya know? But I'm always going to love listening to music.

Green Day, Blink-182, Three Days Grace, Simple Plan and Limp Bizkit are my favourites, but I do enjoy listening to others like Linkin Park, Rise Against and Breaking Benjamin
