Rayman Pirate-Community

Hello!

Rayman 2 is one of my favorite games. It has dark atmosphere, great plot and awesome soundtrack. Unfortunately, some people can't or don't want to play it because of its old graphics (even though it still looks pretty nice) and/or of compatibility issues.

So, I decided to make a Rayman 2 Remake.

For this purpose, I use Unreal Engine 4.

My main goals:

• Making a mix of Rayman 2 PC version, Rayman 2 Dreamcast version, Rayman 2 PS1 version, Rayman Revolution, Rayman Rush/Arena
  Improving models, animations, environments
  Making game's art style look similar to original but more beautiful
  Making game run smoothly

And most importantly: IT WILL BE FREE

That is a very exciting project! Good luck with it.

Great idea, but a hell lot of work! I suppose you won't reuse the textures and models from the original game (else it would pretty much look the same), and you'll need a lot of help for that.

That's quite a heavy undertaking you've got there, I wish you the best of luck! If you do manage this, it will be most impressive indeed.

Hello again!

Since I was on vacation last week I couldn't do anything, but don't worry! I'm already home!

So, I finally started working on textures. Yay!

Half of Rayman's abilities are done, but they still need more work.

At the end, I'm leaving you with a photo of what is already done.


(Most of the things there are placeholders, so it obviously doesn't look good)

I'm thinking about making it look more Rayman 2 like, but it probably wouldn't look good enough.

Hmm, the issue with remaking these sort of titles is taking into account the art style and aesthetic. As tempting as it is to use realistic textures for stuff like water, I personally think the best option would be to use cartoon textures, much like the vanilla Rayman 2, but make it so that the ripples in the water use more realistic physics.

I thought of that as well. But first of all, I need to remake the water texture :/

Hey!! i want to colaborate, right now i'm "remaking" the pirate cannon (well, a shitty remagined version of it), i'm not an expert on 3d modeling but i can help on some things:

Here are more things i did in my spare time: (they aren't great,but they might be helpful, most of them aren't even finished.)

i also did the spiral stone, it needs a lot of polish and optimitzation but i wanted to capture the detail.


this is the version without "detail" (i tried to do it respecting the texture, but it turned out to look pretty boring).

Anyway. I have some bad news. I lost half of my hard drive... again. All my models are gone!
But I'm not giving up just yet.

Wait, you mean you haven't replaced the hard drive? That should be a priority for you…
