Bump
Revisiting this while there's no madness, I'd like to be better at speaking Irish and I'd also like to know more French. They teach French here, but I only done it in a club back in primary school. Saying that though, they did teach Irish here (it was mandatory) and yet I still only know so much.

We were actually discussing Irish in the canteen at work last week, and one of my foreign colleagues asked if there was any literature in Irish. I responded by saying there was, in Classical Irish, then proceeded to sing a verse of An Spailpín Fánach as an example of poetry dating from that period.

I do remember a stupid Carlsberg advert on TV where a guy was speaking very basic Irish because everyone was fascinated with it. If the translations are wrong then Plum will have fun correcting them.
Basically he said stuff like:
"An bhfuil céad agam dul amach go dtí an leithreas?" - "Can I go to the toilet?"
"Agus madra rua" - Either "and a fox" or "and a red dog"
"is maith liom cáca milis" - "I like cake"
"Agus Sharon Ní Bheolain" - "And Sharon Ní Bheolain"
"Tá geansaí orm" - "I'm wearing a jumper"
"Tá scamaill sa spéir" - "There are clouds in the sky"
"Tabhair dom an cáca milis" - "Give me the cake"
It gets worse at the end when he literally says "ciúnas mbóthar cailín bainne", which is basically "quiet road girl milk".
I also know that "milis" means sweet, so technically it's sweet cake, but we don't tend to say that in English.

Yeah I've been trying to learn some French recently, even playing the Rayman games in French to get ideas from them. I'm slowly but surely learning some things, but I definitely find it more complicated than English in so many ways.

Still learning some Russian on Duolingo, not that I can have any meaningful conversation though.

I'm basically the same with French, unless a meaningful conversation is just me saying hello, telling you my name, and then asking how you are.

I decided to pick up my book on Old Norse again a few days ago, it's a shame how much of that stuff has gone out of my head in few years since I last looked at it properly!

They say that practice is everything, but I can't imagine it's easy with such languages.

Since there's no one around to speak them with? Yeah, well, the book has lots of exercises at least

Maybe when I finish it I'll do another translation of Rayman 2

I think Icelandic would be better.
