I'm not blaming anyone. I just didn't think Spanish would have such an awkward consonant cluster. But then, maybe it's only me who finds it awkward. :fou:

I only know a few words of any language that isn't English so you're far better off than I am. I find them all awkward :oops2:

EDIT: Regardless of consonant clusters :P

Well, "sfr-" is par for the course in Italian. It has those clusters at the beginning of words, like "sfruttare" (basically because the "di-" was dropped from all those words)! The Italian S is different from the Castilian one though, so I don't find it so awkward.

I think "dale disfrutar" literally means "ok enjoy" or something similar. I'm not going to pretend I know lots of Spanish now when I can barely speak any Irish as it is

But yeah it is a bit confusing and makes words easy to misspell in my opinion. That's probably just me being bad a speller though :fou2:

Curiously when I looked up dale disfrutar on google translate, it said this:

Ok, enjoy.

I was like, where did THAT come from??!? :fou2: :confus:

Yeah and since he speaks Spanish, we can't say it's wrong :)

Also its pronunciation is very different. It's sort of like "dally del-flu-ga".

I am definitely considering taking French for my senior year of high school, but I'm a little hesitant to do so because I struggled with Spanish a good amount of the year and I'm worried that French will be even harder than Spanish.

Hmhm, maybe you could ask Plum about French, since he was helpful to me in pointing out all my errors when I tried. Personally, I wouldn't know how hard it is, since I never have spoken French fluently, and some people around here obviously know how terrible I'm at it, even when trying. If you've seen the French version of the Teensies topic, as well as the Bloopers topic, you will know how horribly I failed when trying the first time.
Actually, I'm a little surprised you don't know, since I noticed you posted at least once in those forums.

But anyway I'm rambling again. If you do choose to do French, good luck with that! I actually need to teach myself French at some point also, so I might ask some of the other members here that i know for advice.

I know that french wouldn't really be that hard to learn to type, write or read but the pronunciation is what might get you. I used to do an after school French club when I was around 11 I think it was and I still remember a good deal of what I was thought. Though unfortunately a lot of what I know is useless in the real world and I just embarrass myself in the French section

EDIT: My point is that I didn't do that for very long and it was really basic but I still remember, so I think if you were to do it in as much of a higher level you'll be learning it, you should be fine.

Re: Languages

I think the thing with French is that the grammar of the spoken language is, for the most part, quite simple. The spelling that goes with it is the killer though. As someone who learned the language in school I of course learned the spellings without ever really getting the pronunciation right (that only came after I left school :chinois:) and so for years I couldn't understand why so many native speakers were making such silly grammatical/spelling errors. :P
Not that English spelling is by any means reasonable, but the, how shall I say, degeneracy of verb forms isn't really a problem like it is in French.

Well when I first tried to learn French I was being silly and saying things like "vouz" where you really pronounce a sort of "voo", then deux I was saying "dooks" but it sounds sort of like "do" with a really short vowel. I learned in the end that a lot of Z's and X's are silent, but I still only know very little as I ended up doing Woodwork instead of French in secondary school.

I used a translator.

Anyway, thanks for the input guys. I'll have a whole summer to think about it, so I should be able to decide whether I want to take the class or not.

Hmmm, that doesn't surprise me too much, since I did the same thing and I know ^ probably did too

Though in most cases when I tried, I failed miserably.

Aside from a translator, I do actually know a few things about French, and I can pronunciate what words I DO know decently enough (We don't get taught French in school, it's just an elective that we can choose). Whatever ^^ chooses, best of luck!
