I know this topic was originally about 2017, but how do we feel about 2020? I had a superstitious feeling that we were in for a rough one when I heard on January 3 that
Marian Finucane had died, but I couldn't have anticipated what actually happened! This time last year, people were debating whether or not 2020 should be considered the start of "the 20s" (the competing view being that they will actually start now, in 2021). Either way, the new decade is starting very weirdly!
It hasn't been a total bust though. I don't think I'd have got back into Rayman M, or the Half-Life series, or started learning x86 assembly, or probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting, if the year had actually gone to plan…

2020 was pretty shit personally. There were some good moments, and many horrible ones too. I hope 2021 will be much better, but that remains to be seen.

I can't really say how things will go but as far as I could tell, leading up to the new year there had been nothing but arguing and conflict between family in general. It makes me have no faith somewhat in the new year and it is truly disturbing to me when there is always an argument going on for several days between the same people. At least it was after Christmas.

As I've mentioned before, in terms of health this has been the worst year so far, I had to see several doctors and take a lot of medication through the year, but hopefully I would be able to fully recover in 2021. Also, it was brought to my attention that other members of my family (that I haven't seen in a very long time) are having a very rough time, which is really unfortunate.
So, yeah 2020 was a really shitty year, but I wish that things get better for everyone during this new cycle.

On my end, things have been pretty good in 2020. Sure, it sucked that bars were closed for a good part of the year, but I had my share of home parties anyway, and while I couldn't travel as much as I wanted to, I still went on holiday to Norway and the Faroe Islands, and countless other locations within France. I even got the new job I was looking forward to and we're only marginally affected by the coronavirus crisis. In fact, I've quite enjoyed working from home, and I even temporarily moved back to my home town. I don't have to return to the office until September so this should give me plenty of time to find a new flat to buy, this time.
So yeah, I can probably consider myself lucky that 2020 was such a cool year for me, because it clearly wasn't the case for everyone. Hell, even my cryptocurrency investments are looking good at the moment, despite Xenon's relentless incantations to make me lose money again.

2020 was generally a boring year to me, but I managed to make some small trips with family whenever it was possible and I had some commission here and there - quite some entertainment. It ended spendidly to me.

I can say 2020 has been horrible. I wish to kick it in the nearest lake and let it sink to the ground forgotten forever.

Well, 2021 hasn't been much of a picnic so far either, especially here (I lost my grandmother to Covid-19 last week

), but at least there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Losing a family member is horrible. I'm sorry to hear.
For me, apart from some failures which shouldn't be too focused on.
Had many cases of "bad things" let's say that. To the point of mental breakdown basically.
that 1 family member now is partially disabled with depression and another one also has to consider surgery since late 2020 is... umm
a person online I knew a bit and was nice died.
A person who has done great fot the community I'm in has died.
The only thing that could have gone worse is me getting thyroid cancer (which I have increased risk of getting).
2021 please give me a break
Edit: And I hope for you 2021 will also be better than this start. I hope you are ok...

Oh shit, I'm really sorry to hear that. My condolences go out to you and your family. When I lost mine, they went to cancer, but it's just unfortunate that things like this pandemic cause people to lose their lives or loved ones.

This sucks. I have a risk of developing esophageal cancer from acid reflux too, it's pretty worrying, and the pandemic makes it harder for me to get the tests I need.
I didn't expect 2021 to start off good with 2020 being practically the worst year ever, but I hope 2021 gets better for everyone.

My condolences, PluM. Such devastating news with the vaccine now in sight.
And I hope 2021 is better for you, Dan. Fingers crossed!

Yeah this year hasn’t been working out really well for me either.
My cousin recently passed away about 2 weeks ago due to covid. I was sad to hear this as I hadn’t seen him in years.
And earlier today I tried to open my laptop but it wasn’t booting up correctly and after hours of attempting to boot it up (and be stuck on the loading screen) I am now worried that there is another issue with the laptop that this time may not be able to be fixed by myself. Which is pretty bad since I have lots of data on there that will probably take me a long time to gather again from the internet.
Now with me getting that stuff off my chest, I want to give my own condolences to Plum and Dan for their losses. I hope this year will get better for you guys.

It could be the hard drive if it's doing this, which I guess isn't good since that's where the data is stored. Things like this would mainly end up happening if the laptop fell or just took shock in general by being hit or slammed etc.
