Rayman DS VS. Rayman 3D

Hello, i will compere Rayman 3D and Rayman DS in this post to see which is better.
DISCLAIMER: Some of this is my opinion , but feel free to post your opinion after reading.

Anyway as you know, Rayman DS is a port of the N64 version of Rayman 2.
This version features A brand new way of controlling rayman, via the touchscreen.
But this version while charming hase some issues like:
Droping off of Umber and the flower thing in SOFAL if you dont hold R (Trigger).
The 8 Direction movement is fine to use on rayman, but once hes flying on a Keg or Shell, its just straight up bad imo.
Also there are some other buggs i dont want to mension.
Also the music is MIdi, some are good but some are nothing compeared to other versions.

So Lets go to Rayman 3D
Rayman 3D is a port of the Dreamcast version of Rayman 2.
This Version unlike DS doesnt realy feature anything new ( new gameplay whise)
But it updated the models of Kegs and Plumbs ( is nice)
But it is also not problem Free:
The 1000th Lum Secret is buggy and the lum is way harder to collect.
The classic white cloud Skybox may also break for some reason, its more funny than a problem.
You can clip into the toomb of the ainchens secret( shouldnt that be a plus?)
Also they removed the dreamcast exclusive minigames which i honestly dont care about ( lol)
Also i heard this version has a bad framerate but i never felt it was bellow 55~
Music is the og Version just like the dreamcast
EDIT: You also respawn with full health after respawning from lets say lava ( Exept in the flying shell sections)

COnclusion:
The two versions are charming ways to play R2 on the go , so which one is better?
in my Opinion : Rayman 3D is the better version
Not on just a nostalgic point , i just think R3D is better overall, mostly on music and controlls

But Thats just my opinion, Post your Opinion bellow.

Thanks for reading! :D

Sorry if there are typos

I myself wouldn't count a specific level bug or two as really contributing to the quality of the port. I don't really get the point of the comparison honestly - in what universe would anyone consider Rayman DS to be better? :P

I'm planning to complete every version of Rayman 2 that was released (apart from N64 as I can't see any reason for that one) because they're all slightly different. I'm starting with the PS1 then PS2 then I'll start the Dreamcast version again when I get the real game which I have ordered.

I have a New 3DS XL so I'll try out Rayman 3D also (which is likely better). It would be cool having the option to play the game on the go since I didn't know the DS versions were Rayman 2. I only seen the DS remake of the first Rayman :)

You should totally play the PC or N64 versions, since those are the true originals, how the game was originally intended (the N64 is just a downgraded port of the PC version). I prefer the PC version over the Dreamcast since, while the Dreamcast version is still gorgeous, they made it look a little grittier, darker and more desaturated than the PC version which I thought had an outstanding colour balance, they got rid of the Hall of Doors for some totally dumbass reason despite it being the aesthetic I most closely associate with Rayman 2, and I thought some of the additions were kind of unnecessary and didn't fit the feel of the rest of the game. They also replaced the particle effect on Rayman's charge shot with one that looks really silly... which is a small complaint, but I loved the way the original looked.

The N64 version does have a different soundtrack, but with it having the lower framerate I don't think that's enough to make it stand out.

I bought the PS1 copy just to play it because I'd rather have the game than emulate it

I probably will play the N64 version if I can pick it up cheap and the PC version I'm sure I'll get for buttons somewhere. I don't even mind playing it so many times just because every version has it's differences. That and Rayman games do have a tendency to be quite good :)

Trust me, PC is worth it
N64 is hard to get nowedays ( i mean you need console, controller, memorypack , expansion pack and the game)
Ps1 is realy good on its own but compeared to like PC or dreamcast, its more of a demake

I have an N64 already and a controller etc. I always make sure to have one of every console. I have everything from the NES to Xbox One X except a Sega Saturn but I'm getting one when I can find one.

I'll definitely get the PC version of the game it's like €5 on Uplay I think. Also if I see the N64 version cheap I will pick it up but I reckon the game cart would be hard to find nowadays.

Cool, my only real hope to get the n64 version is, a n64 classic edition with rayman 2 which will 99% be onn there if it gets anounced

It's about €15 on ebay for the N64 cart of Rayman 2 but I'm sure I'll find it cheaper if I keep an eye on it. I do see a bid starting at €1.12 but problem is post to Ireland for it is €7.85

Either way there's no rush I want to play this PS1 version first, then when the PS2 Revolution and Dreamcast Great Escape get here I'll play them. Then I'll get the PC version and try it out. Also the DS versions. I might just collect every copy of every Rayman game I can find since I have this many already

Going to give it a try myself. I have Legends on everything except Xbox360 and Wii U (I did complete it on Xbox360 when I had it though) Origins don't have it on 3DS or wii. Rayman 2 don't have it on PC and N64 (I'm waiting for the other ones in the post). I don't have Rayman 3 on Gamecube or the PS3 HD version. I don't have Arena on Xbox but have the triple pack for Ps2 on the way which includes M. Don't have Rush. I have the 2 GBA ones ordered and have yet to get the GBC version or Rayman Hoodlums Revenge. Rayman 1 I only have the PS1 version ordered but haven't got the PC version or a Saturn (also haven't got the DS version)

The difference is though that Origins doesn't really vary apart from being 30fps on 3DS and obviously lower resolution and the Vita version has these things you have to collect by touching the screen.

Legends literally seems the same on everything apart from small changes like the Wii U, Switch and Vita with the touchscreen Murfy levels.

Rayman 3 seems the same on everything apart from the main difference in Gamecube where he clearly doesn't jump as high and the HD version being glitchy imo.

Well there you go, a nice big long read of what games I don't have if I want to complete the collection. I'm sure I left out a lot if there were more games if anyone wants to contribute to that list

PS I don't own Raving Rabbids at all but should that still count?

Damn I knew I would've missed some. That's another console I don't have.

So looks like M is the European name for it and Arena is the non European name. Also looks like M only exists on PS2 and probably PC?

Either way I'll get the RRR game for Wii, GBA and DS also.

I don't want to pirate these games (ironic because the forum is called pirate community) because they're such good games and I want the developers to actually get their hard earned money. That and I love the disc art and cover art etc. on them. The Rayman 3 PS2 PAL disc art is great

Yeah I assumed it'd be good using the Wii because of the motion controls. A lot more fun. The Xbox 360 version wasn't great tbh. Suppose since my Xbox is softmodded I could get Arena if I wanted. My Gamecube also has a XenoGC mod chip that allows it to read backups so I assume that makes it region free too.

Also the GBA Rayman Advance and Rayman 3 I ordered are the USA versions because they have better labels than the European ones and GBA is region free anyway.

Well night anyway, I'll spend the rest of the night playing the PS1 Rayman 2 and I also brought your thread way off topic so apologies :oops2:
