...and considering the moderate success of Holy Crap's topic about wanting to learn French-

I'm really interested in learning Norwegian at the moment. Is there anyone here who might be able to help?

o_o Well, why would you want to learn Norwegian?

I am Norwegian, and I suppose I can help you, though. :p

One's culture is never too wide, so I can only encourage Slayer to continue. I'm quite interested too :)

D: Since when did Norway become an awesome country and everyone wants to know our language?
Last time I asked what people knew about Norway, they thought it was the capital of Ikea. :lol: (no joking)

Well, I'll help you, with the best of my abilities... ^^;

if my memory serves me well, Norway is one of the best countries to live in in terms of average wealth, education and life expectancy; second behind iceland i think. but i don't necessarily have a good memory.
on another note, i was actually curious as to whether Noway had its own language and if it was actually called Norwegian, or whether they spoke another countries language. but that has now been answered...i think...

wait, sudden inspiration: perhaps we should merge these topics into a single "language help" topic. just a thought though.

Well, yes, that's true. Except for the education part. Norwegian education won't get you far in the world, because our school system is too mild, so the students make a lot of noise in classes and it's hard to pay attention and learn anything. It's been a lot of fuss about this in the media lately. Education is, however, almost free.
Also, Norway doesn't just have one language of it's own, but two; New Norwegian and Bookspeech (and then there's a lot of local variations on how it's spoken). I usually use Bookspeech when I write, but I know New Norwegian as well. There really isn't much of a difference, but New Norwegian is closer to how we speak, while Bookspeech is more of an updated norwegianified Danish. (I also know why this is so, but I doubt you would be interested, it's a rather boring story)
Danish, Swedish and Norwegian are very closely related, and a speaker of either language will be able to understand the other languages. (Actually I find it easier to understand Swedes than a person from the northern tip of Norway)
Still interested? xD

The main reason why I'm interested in Norwegian, is that I've conversed with Norwegian people over the internet before, using a translator, and it seemed like a really interesting language. Since then I've tried to find someplace I could learn the language, and have been largely unsuccessful.

And yes, I am interested. Have you got MSN or anything like that Limely?

Great, thanks. I've added you to my friends list, so we can probably sort something out over MSN. Thanks very much =D
