I didn't know we were still allowed to make threads about individual games.

It's not really encouraged to make separate threads for certain franchises but I guess it depends on how popular it is [like with the Mario thread].
I only played one RE game and that was Code Veronica for the Dreamcast. Wasn't bad but I didn't get far and I hated the controls, who couldn't you just walk freely with the analogue stick like in a platformer?

I think we should have a sub-forum for video games. If pr0oO gets its own forum, surely video games deserve a spot. Hell, it could even replace the pr0oO forum. (=

We don't really need a subforum for games I don't think. We already have a games thread which was designed to hold ALL game discussions, but people seem to think it's better to make individual topics for some reason. Most of the time they don't even reach two pages.
And I've yet to play RE5.

It's probably buried in a sea of old topics.

Actually, no. We don't.

So, Resident Evil 1 Wii Edition is coming out October 30th. This will take a while.
Got Resident Evil 7 as I thought the game looked intriguingly sp00ky and was curious in seeing if Capcom could redeem themselves with this supposed "return to roots" sort of reboot. Honestly, so far, this is the best Triple A game I've played in a while. The premise and story are interesting; the game is a lot more gory than I expected, and I really love the atmosphere - the atmosphere is eerily awesome.
I'm finding the game very addicting, as I feel rewarded with every new item I find, challenge I overcome, or puzzle I solve. The environment is well detailed, full of surprises and secrets to uncover.
Glad to see a classic series back on track in the modern age.

I just beat the game in Madhouse mode (took me a few days, it's really hard). I wouldn't recommend anyone try it before completing normal mode though, as the latter introduces the right enemies at the right time and makes for a nicer atmosphere. Madhouse is just for the challenge, really.
Anyway, back to the game, it was a pleasant surprise and by far the best Resident Evil since RE4. It looks like they drew some inspiration from a well-received side title, Resident Evil: Revelations, which takes place on a ghost ship, features spooky enemies and is more survival-oriented. I strongly recommend every RE enthusiast to play it if they haven't (I wrote a review of it on the French forums which I'd like to translate when I have some time).
However, the global atmosphere in RE7 is completely new (save for the ship wreck) and absolutely brilliant. From eerie to spooky to gore, there's always a good balance of unsettling elements and you're gonna love to hate your new enemies. The game's full of small tributes to the rest of the series, yet never feels like a rip-off, and while it takes place in the same universe, it doesn't even tie into the previous titles (yet).
The game's finale is awesome and I loved the completely unexpected plot twist (though a careful player might notice a couple hints to it during the game). The scenario is interesting and not too far-fetched, though they might have taken it a bit far giving Evelyn so much power. I also thought that Jack's last transformation felt a bit out-of-place but that's a detail.
I couldn't have been more skeptical yet I love the game now. And God knows the series needed to atone for Resident Evil 6's sins.

I don't think you even have the option before completing easy or normal to play Madhouse Are there any parts in particular that are challenging in Madhouse? I'm thinking of giving it a go sometime.

I agree with the sentiment of it being the best since Resi4. The Revelations vibes were also very apparent in the ship section. I think this game did a great job with the variety of locations;I honestly didn't expect many locations outside the mansion going into the game, and was pleasantly surprised time and time again when a new location would be presented. The variety of locations, objectives and each section being governed by a different family member really created excellent pacing and I was never tired of a section. There were many memorable parts for me - I especially loved the SAW like birthday puzzle and how you had to watch the tape from the original victim to figure out how to escape. So cool.

Haven't played any of the Resi games that were released prior to Resi 4, but loved how the game, despite feeling like its own thing throughout, eventually brought in the whole Umbrella thing and the appearance of a iconic character at the end was awesome.) Will be interesting to see what direction the sequel will take.

You do if you preordered the game, from what I've read. But yeah, it's good that you normally can't. As for the challenging parts in Madhouse, I found the first boss fight against Mia to be the hardest bit. You're barely allowed to miss a shot given how many bullets it takes to defeat her. I strongly suggest that you pick up the weapon, ammo and healing items, and only then save your game so that all you have to do is head straight to the ladder when you restart (and trust me, you will). Careful with Jack, he runs faster than you in this mode, and with the four-legged molded, they'll kill you in no time if you don't take them down first.

I liked how much of the game takes place in the same area, RE1-style, yet you eventually leave it to end up in different places: that was a good balance of backtracking and diversity. And finishing the game right where you started was absolutely brilliant. By the way, did you try the Bedroom DLC? You'll probably like it if you enjoyed the Happy Birthday puzzle.

Most certainly! At least we're pretty sure there will be a sequel, and I hope they will keep the focus on survival as well as the creepy atmosphere and relatively realistic situations (I still think they went a bit too far with Giant Slug Jack and Eveline's powers).
In any case, I'm really hyped for the remake of RE2. Might just be a golden occasion for you to discover earlier titles: I got into the series with the GameCube remake of the original game.

I definitely enjoyed the new RE game, I bought it at launch and ended it in 11 hours, thought it was neat, however i didn't really like the final boss. Now I'm playing on the hardest mode and I'm actually liking it, the first "boss" was the hardest because you didn't have a lot of ammo

I agree, the first boss is the one that gave me the hardest time in Madhouse. After that, it's still pretty hard, but you actually get a decent amount of tapes to save your progress, and when you realize you can actually run past 90% of the enemies, it starts feeling like speedrunning a lot!
Speaking of which, I was missing a few trophies (all coins in easy or normal, open the item box no more than 3 times, heal no more than 3 times, complete the game in less than 4 hours) so I went for a run in easy mode last night to get them all at once. Somehow I fucked up the item box one, forgetfully opening it in the old tape, and I finished the game in about 2:30. It was about 6 AM and the routing was still fresh in my head so I went for a second run straight away just to get the last trophy.
This one is quite interesting as the game forces you to open the box twice already. So, either you don't open it at the beginning of the game and you can use it one last time when you resume control of Ethan near the end (in the cabin before the salt mine), or you do, in which case you'll have to run past every single monster in that last section (the salt mine again; climbing that ladder where the two fat molded ambush you was a pain in the ass you have to lure them far away from it if you don't want to get hit when climbing) and you'll get a chance to manage your inventory after dying against the final boss. I went for the second solution because I used the unlimited ammo in my run and needed to pick it up from the first item box (I didn't use the circular saw though, as I didn't have it yet for my first run and I kept the same strategy in the second one). The idea was pretty much to get the Magnum as soon as I got to the trailer, and it worked pretty well (you'll either need every single antique coin until that point, or you can skip one (the first one I'd suggest, as it takes a lot of time to get) if you got the dirty coin from the demo).
Anyway, I finished the game in about 2:06, finally got 100% of the trophies, went to bed at almost 9 AM and slept all day.

Bumping since we've finally got news on the long awaited remake of Resident Evil 2.
It will come out on Jan 25 2019 and will run on the engine of the awesome Resident Evil 7.
I'm excited like a kid.

Hell yeah, I can't wait for April 3!
Despite a few aspects that I didn't like too much (I wanted to make a post about it but I never got to, I guess I'll have to play the game again and make a list now ), the remake of Resident Evil 2 was a really great game, so I'm confident about this one too.
