Re: The Oddworld Topic
I noticed the change for sound effects but not on music. Munch's jumps aren't that annoying now.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
What is your favorite level in the game? Mine is Brewery To Be. It is the only level with Scrabs, and is rather interesting (A mostly outdoor area with Scrubs instead of regular mudokons). If you are going for a Black Quarma playthrough, it is also fun watching Scrubs vs Scrabs (You can get all the Scrubs in the area that opens up after you activate the Chant Circles in the Windmill to follow you, and make them attack the Scrabs. It goes about as well as you think. The newspaper at the end also changes if you do this).
Re: The Oddworld Topic
Hello Henchman1028, I have answered your question on a forum separate from RPC. Munch's Oddysee as a whole wasn't a very good game, and it was a huge disappointment for an Oddworld game, especially with everything we had heard about it before it was released. MO, to the Oddworld fanbase, is what RR was to the Rayman fanbase. None of the levels were that fantastic or really stood out to me. All of the outdoor levels looked exactly the same. Despite going from company to company through the entire game, there was little to no variation in the environment, unlike the previous two games where you could tell the different facilities apart very easily. Because there only seemed to really be two general settings (in a building, and outside of a building) reusing the same textures over and over, the only real differences being enemy placement and the occasional obscenely easy to solve puzzle, no level in MO is my favourite. The only redeeming feature of MO, in my opinion, was the bad ending.
In Brewery To Be, though, it is quite fun to possess a scrab and attack another scrab with it. Even when you depossess the scrab the herd will gang up and kill the one that was possessed.
I have not yet gotten the HD remake of MO, but I don't ever exactly plan to. There are some significant improvements from the original, but there still seems to be a whole shitload of problems that JAW is working out. Stranger's Wrath HD on the other hand was just as fantastic as the Xbox version, if not better, and I am looking forward to the release of New 'N' Tasty. I was so skeptical at first when it was being discussed. I find nothing wrong with Abe's Oddysee, as it was a work of art that played smoothly (and heck, even the glitches were fun to mess with) and both it and the bonus game Abe's Exoddus were so refined that even a blind person could play it near flawlessly. It seemed odd they wanted to turn it into a side scroller, and I wasn't entirely sure I was fond of that idea. Seeing what they've got so far, though, I am confident they know what they're doing and it may be just as good as AO was.
There was a poll recently on the Oddworld website recently (which can be seen here) asking about what we would like to see next. I personally voted for Sligstorm because I really like the concept of it, though I would settle for anything new from Oddworld really. There hasn't been a new installment since 2005! But, it seems the majority are interested in seeing an HD remake of AE. Probably just to get the last of the previously released games out on the current market for those who have never played the originals or would rather play them with updated graphics. What do you guys think?

Re: The Oddworld Topic
Hehehe, nice!
Re: The Oddworld Topic
I played MO for the first time in Easter 2011 (thank you for porting to PC!) and finished in the Summer of the same year, and it was a game I was wanting to try it out since years but it was impossible since I hadn't an Xbox or knew anybody owning one. Thanks to the PC port, I could buy the Oddboxx and finally play that game.
I can tell I expected much more from it too, I have the very same agreement with you concerning the graphical design of the levels, that could have been much better. The exterior feels very much the same thing and the buildings inside aswell: the very same trees and very same metal walls. AE did an extraordinary work in the graphical design, perfectly distinctive places (Something that AO did it quite well too). The puzzles aren't as good and challenging as in the first 2D games. I also own the HD version of the game, that I bought when it came out and while I saw improvements in the substitution of some sound effects, better 3D models, etc, I also had problems at a point that when I finish the level, the game freezes. After trying out the level again (or loading a quicksave) the glitch wasn't happening.
I'm also looking forward to New 'N' Tasty! I'll try to get it for PC and PS3 and I'm pretty excited by the video footage shown, its going to be promissing!
I finished to play SW a few months ago, and at first I was sceptical about the game knowing that neither Abe or Munch were the protagonists or had Sligs and Glukkons at all, plus the fact I'm not quite a fan of FPS games (I admit I thought it worked almost like TF2). After 1 hour of gameplay, I completely changed my oppinion and the platforming and FPS combination are really well made. There was a pretty cool plot twist in the middle of the game. But still, its not the best game of the quadrilogy for me. The saddest part is that I was forced to get the PS3 version (which is even more expensive than the PC version) in order to be able to play it. My PC has got an ATi card, and SW is unplayable because of a performance glitch it happens in everybody owning an ATi graphic card, that JAW didn't solve yet, and I'm yet waiting for almost 2 years for this problem fix.
I know the story of the blind boy, I remind to read it in the official blog and got amazed.
Concerning a poll, I also voted on it a few days after getting out. It was pretty tough having to pick just one because Sligstorm sounds for me it can turn out a great game (and I personally like Sligs) but knowing how New N Tasty was going, I couldn't avoid the will to vote in Exoddus HD, I do want to see this game remasterized. I hope they consider the Sligstorm project anyway.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
It's funny because I actually went out of my way to buy an Xbox long after the PS3 had been released because I bought both MO and SW when they first came out, but wasn't willing to spend the money on the console to play the only two game I ever planned to own on it. I got my Xbox for about $15 (roughly 11€) and played the games until I was completely burnt out on them.
MO was intended to have more exposition on Molluk, who was meant to be on trial for allowing Abe to wreck the havoc that he did on many of the large industries of the Magog Cartel. It was going to expand on the story, and make it so that there was far more to the series than just Nature VS Industry. Apparently, they had also wanted to include Abe's mother, Sam, who is the one who lays many of the eggs that are hatched into labor. With any luck, with the eventual release of Squeek's Oddysee or possibly Munch's Exoddus, these bits and many more will finally make it into the main series. With JAW now working with OWI on newer Oddworld games, I know once they finally get around to releasing new installments to the quintology or even working on side games like SW , we'll be getting games hopefully as rich in quality as AO and AE. It might take a bit, because they still have such a small team, but it will get there one way or another.
That glitch is pretty common in MO HD, as well as a texture glitch in the Dead River, certain trophies not unlocking despite fulfilling the requirements, and issues with the unlockables not being viewable after initially unlocking them. From what I understand, unlike SW, it was very difficult to do anything with the textures on the walls and ground because everything was done so inefficiently in the original version. There were shadows painted on walls rather than an object casting a shadow and the like. They did the best with what they had, and I certainly commend them for fixing things such as making use of the trigger buttons again, making the characters more controllable (they're not bouncing off the walls like a child on a sugar high) and getting rid of the more annoying sounds like Munch's overly cartoony bouncing, but the game itself was sub par, and unless they completely remade the game from scratch there's no fixing it.
A good amount of people had the same initial problems when SW was initially released (and some of them still do, going so far to say MO was far better) but if anything it really made me appreciate all the game play elements. It's very different from the first two, but it still feels like an Oddworld game. It even reinforces that it takes place on the same planet by the subtle addition of creatures like the fuzzles and vykker. Heck, we discovered relatives of other species we've previously been introduced to as well, and the story fits well into the overall themes of Oddworld. Keep your fingers crossed, they'll come up with a fix one of these days!
I'm really hoping some where down the line they revisit Sligstorm. Not just because sligs are really cool but also because it'd be nice to play from a different side to some extent. With Sligstorm we can see more of the inner workings of Magog Cartel without having to infiltrate anything. You're trying to escape, and it's likely you will never go back. Unfortunately, I don't see Sligstorm ending well since the "natives" will probably view the slig as a threat just for being a slig.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
Is it about a running away Slig? It would be nice to see a good hearted Slig.
It reminds me I have saved a letter that I received years ago from the old Oddworld club. The envelope owns the symbol of Oddworld and owns a Christmas SW postcard with a handwritted signature of Alf. A relic.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
Last time I checked my brother's horribly filthy room, I found some PS1 games, including two Oddworld games. I'd like to try them, perhaps with an emulator, but nobody has touched them for probably over 9 years. They were in a case though, so there are little to no scratches or any other filth. I remember these games really well.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
It is! The slig was supposed to have been albino, and in the system it happened to have been born into, mutants are culled. It was meant to be a pretty short game made using the A.L.I.V.E. engine much like AO and AE were, but they were considering switching to 3D while in the production of MO. In the end they didn't even begin production on the project, but they certainly remember it. I feel like if they revisited Sligstorm, they might be able to make it a full game now, DLC, or even integrate it into another story. Perhaps even a series of stories.Haruka wrote:Is it about a running away Slig? It would be nice to see a good hearted Slig.

Ah, I'm jealous. I unfortunately wasn't able to do much online back when OWI was still pretty active before they started working behind the scenes on many cancelled projects, so I missed out on a lot of great things.
Oh cool. Have you tried them out since making that post? Do they still run well?GNineify wrote:Last time I checked my brother's horribly filthy room, I found some PS1 games, including two Oddworld games. Oh wow, now I want to see Sligstorm creating shape.
What about Squeek's Oddysee? I don't know a lot about it too.
I also remind they canceled Hands of Odd, it could have been turned out into an interesting game too.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
We don't know very much about Squeek's Oddysee at all. Squeek doesn't have a design yet, all we know about them is they're at the bottom of the food chain and have some kind of symbiosis power/ability. If Munch's Exoddus isn't created before Squeek's Oddysee, it seems likely a lot of the subplots from ME will be merged into SO instead. I don't see Squeek coming into the picture until OWI and JAW are stable enough and the team becomes larger in numbers. I have a feeling when they start the quintology back up, they're going to try and do it with a bang. Until then, there's still one game after New 'N' Tasty to make an HD remake of, and side stories on Oddworld are just as interesting because the planet is so vast.
And yes. HoO was cancelled, but last I heard it was being adapted for a different platform? Once there was discussion on making it a Facebook and mobile game. I'm pretty sure that fell through, and I haven't heard much about it since. It seems like something that might get made eventually, but it's not a priority.

Small bump. Sorry for double posting.
It's about damn time we get some shirts. I wish the quote at the bottom said, "Don't think, drink!" instead of what it currently says, but other than that I'm just glad there's more Oddworld related stuff I can throw my money at coming up soon, be it a game or not. I'm really hoping for a slig themed shirt in the future, or even a slog one just for the sake of my username, heheh. What do you guys think?

I love it! Thanks for sharing!
Oh boy, they definitely should do a couple of more t-shirt designs, like the Oddworld logo itself, something related with Abe or the Mudokons (or the Wanted: Abe). If the sending costs for abroad weren't expensive I could consider a purchase.

Re: The Oddworld Topic
I found a copy of Abe's Oddysee for PS1 at a shop specializing in retro video game products for $8.00 USD a few months ago. Having known how a few members here at RPC like the titles so much, I picked it up, not having a clue of what to expect. I started playing it and enjoyed it thoroughly, unfortunately I got distracted and never finished Paramonia, I need to resume my playthrough after I have completed Rayman Legends. On another note, the "New N' Tasty" remake looks fantastic, but sadly I probably will not able to purchase it due to my older brother behaving quite stubborn when it comes to using or downloading anything to our Wii U console.
