There's a massive machine called the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is buried hundred feet or something under a research facility called CERN on the French-Swiss border(if you haven't heard of it, try reading Angels and Demons by The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown). The LHC is the largest machine in the world, is shaped like a ring, and is about 17 miles (I think) in circumference. It is what is known as a "particle accelerator". It will be used to accelerate subatomic particles, whose directions will be controlled by magnets, around and around at nearly the spped of light, until they collide into each other, break into even more fundemental particles, and basically let scientists find out a bit more about the workings of the universe. But some people are worried that the LHC might create a black hole which will destroy the world. But some think it won't. What do you think?

EDIT: BTW, the machine will be first turned on...THIS WEDNESDAY!

Nonsense. Most renowned theoretical scientists have already said that such black holes would vanish before they get big. The LHC may not be a good thing for humanity, because scientific discoveries do not always lead to moral progress, and the proof of the existence (or non-existence) of the Higgs boson would certainly imply either technical progress or fundamental changes in the standard model of particle physics, but it's certainly not going to create a black hole that would feed itself of Swiss chocolates

Nonsense again. Because it is true does not imply that people know it is.

What about forgetting about this machine- why not pretend that the world is going to end on Wednesday?
