Just out of curiosity, do any of your religious beliefs conflict with any of your scientific beliefs? It's not a question I think I've actually asked anyone before
I recall having a conversation along similar lines with one of my fellow Maths students last Christmas (incidentally she's Protestant) and I put it like this: people often speak of seeing the beauty of Creation in animals like cats; I also see it in electron/x-ray diffraction patterns!
As I've stated here before, I don't actually think the world was created in six days, and neither do most other Catholics…

That's an interesting viewpoint, though I'm curious as to how far your belief in the bible goes. Is there any specific reason why you follow Catholicism over another religion?
The biggest problem I've had understanding the religious viewpoint is why one religion is followed over another, to which the answer usually seems to do with where and when you were raised and the religious beliefs of your parents, which in my mind sort of discredits the belief.

But why do you assume your god is that way? Why would it have a conscience or any form at all?
I've never understood the need to personify the cause of the universe when a simple random event seems to make a lot more sense than a conscious being with a humanlike mind deciding to create the universe, at least when taken at face value.

It is a proper opinion is not bad or good, this is my vision, you can have another, but you can not change my own belief.

I'm not trying to change your vision, I just want to know what lead you to such a belief.

Are you asking to Plum or to myself? Either way, I suppose that it is because catholicism is the primary religion in France, resp. in Ireland.

It was for Plum but anyone's answer's good.
I think if someone who's currently Catholic was born in South Asia instead of, say, Ireland or France, they would almost certainly not grow up to be a Catholic. Doesn't that already pose a flaw in most religious belief?
